Im so done with fanboy praise, I certainly enjoy aspects of the expansion but it is SEVERELY flawed. If you’d actually stop and smell the roses, you would notice just why people are complaining. The issue itself doesn’t stem directly from HoT but a series of ANets mishaps that inevitably led to HoT being as it is

There’s plenty of really good content here, even though there are only four maps. But what you’re missing is that all of the new content caters to the same, comparatively narrow, selection of tastes.

Sure, you can’t have something for every taste, otherwise you’ll just end up with everything being crap. But this goes a bit far in the other direction.

When people complain about grind, they aren’t complaining that they have to actually put some effort in to earn something. What they’re saying is that there is lots of content that they don’t want to do standing in between them and what they do want to do. And that’s pretty unsurprising when the only content available is basically non-instanced casual raiding.

There’s also a certain irony to having to basically raid for the right to do solo instances.

As for the thing about CoF P1, you are reminded of game design 101:

If a player is given the means to comprehensively sabotage their experience of the game in order to ‘win’ more often or more easily, they WILL use them.

We are here? Really?

This is the best game of all time as it is perfect? You’re currently sitting at the opposite side of the spectrum to those who think it’s 0/10 and you’re being equally as absurd.

The game isn’t a complete disaster nor is it the crowning achievement of gaming since it’s inception.

despite grinding being a problem is however not the main problem with HoT, what is the problem is the tons of game breaking bugs, crashes and reset. have you tried testing guild hall with a 100 people? the instance will crash! we did the guild hall mission dozen of times before enough people give up and the instance finally stop crashing! pls focus on fixing game breaker before you mess up more stuff in a buggy game. only then adjust the grinding because it is not healthy.

Yes, ignore the feedback and alienate a sizable chunk of your player base…if anything, probably the more profitable portion too. People that don’t like the grind because they have less time to dedicate to the game and probably have bigger pockets to spend on gems…toss them aside, get some people that like to grind.

That hypothetical aside, not sure what they were thinking and that’s great if you’re a huge fan of it, but you’re going to be in a completely different game by the end of it. The pre-existing players and community will bail and only the try-hards will be attracted by this type of gameplay.

Easy decision for me if there isn’t word of much change coming soon. I paid to play a game, not work to play a game. There is a difference and what I and many others are requesting is FAR from “getting everything handed to us”. Fun vs treadmill.

GW 2 is advertised as a no quest , no objective game you want to be a scholar of tyrian lore you can, you want to be a healer you can, you want to be a corporate merchant you can. you want to be a person who can be a expert on fighting undead by reading inscription and books you can that also.

its up to you, if your objective is grind mindlessly using 1 then you Can that also.

but if you wanna read ancient runes, learn language, kill hardest bosses, reach 100 % security level, do story instances again and get all achievements , get gold in all adventures you can do that also.

Colin for god sake dont nerf anything the game is perfect.

You are taking things out of context. We enjoy the world… but we want to explore it at our own pace, on our terms… which is sort of gw2’s call sign “play how you like”. If I don’t want to grind nearly impossible skillpoints for two days to run around as a reaper and see all the stuff HoT has to offer, then I shouldn’t have too… that is the kind of game I signed up for.

Also you look fairly immature blatantly telling a developer to ignore a mass outcry in feedback about the game that is their lively hood. That is akin to telling a boatman not to worry about the crack in the hull, because you think it adds flavor to the room and you enjoy the sound of flowing water. Please understand the situation and think about more than just what you enjoy.

If you want to provide feedback that you didn’t think the grind was that bad. Constructively say so in the post that is marked specifically for that subject.

I remember when the core game was released, everyone was complaining that the game was easy mode and provided no challenge with nothing to do. Now it’s too hard and grindy. I don’t know if everyone realizes that the grind they are referring to is self imposed. There is no reason outside of personal drive to max out masteries in like 2 days of the game dropping. I will say the story gating was a bit annoying but at the end of the day all I had to do was play the game to train certain masteries and didn’t even take that long.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the end of the world, but it’s definitely not perfect. There are some thins I’m ok with, others I’m not. However, that’s going to vary (sometimes drastically) from person to person.

White Knight completely and utterly blocking out any sort of ideals that don’t align with your own?

Even when they acknowledged the problem by removing the poison mastery gate stating the very reason people have stated the OP still makes this post as a shining example to other knights if you just ignore the problems and believe in Anet that everything will be alright.

There is no spine no act of will just a sheepish complacency with that line of thinking

Giving us more healing aligned elites without fixing the fact healing isn’t computed into events or how healing power needs reworked?

Second you feel even the tiniest bit immersed in the story you required to grind for mastery. Early on its grind exalted marking then do the story and directly after it asks you to grind for updraft.

You either need to explore all the maps for HP or basically complete story mode to unlock the potential of your elite spec. Doing so before hand will just make you another person begging for a rezz at the side of the mob ridden roads since content is more difficult and I’ve seen plenty of people parked at the side of the roads hoping for a rezz.

Personally I’m all for the removal of story gating it’s like your reading a book but every time it gets interesting someone yanks the book from your hand. Masteries are a problem because there gating the story and much of the QQ would end if they were separate. Also Healing power needs to be reworked this community gets worse day by day because with harder content those who support end up being more of a burden because there presence does nothing more than scale up the mobs. Does little good to heal when you being there does nothing more than make the mobs hit back harder and take less damage.

I would have to agree.

The content in the expansion is a lot more challenging then any of the content I’ve played in the core-game since launch – and this is coming from a casual PvE player. HoTs is supposed to fulfill what many players have wanted for a long time: actual endgame, actual challenging content. I think they’re on a good path.

As far as grind goes, I had hoped progression within the Mastery system would be quicker. Like, as fast as gaining experience while using the 100% XP celebration booster now. I sort of understand the concept of giving players meaningful progression past Level 80, but it feels like after you hit 80 and enter the zone you’re not the Level 80 Hero you think you are, but a baby learning how to walk again.

But with boosters it’s not a terrible experience. Still really like Mastery’s – it gives players something to look forward to after 80. But it needs to progress a little faster for it to be more enjoyable.

I’m sure Anet got the real numbers. They see empty WvW maps, they see not optimal HoT sales (lots of guildies still haven’t bought HoT). They see people playing to a certain point then stop or play a lot less after they hit a wall.

So feedback or not, they see the numbers. I’m pretty confident changes are coming unless they want to commit career suicide. And one thing I know for sure is they do care about the game and they don’t want to let an expansion kill the game off. Telling devs to ignore player feedback is counter-productive, also pointless because they know the details of statistics.

Those of us that play this game know how it feels ingame, there are certain maps already empty of players due to over-tuning of difficulties and terrible map design that discourage exploration. PvP players are already avoiding Stronghold, WvW players are avoiding the new desert borderland maps. Players are grinding CoF1 repeatedly to get central tyria mastery exp, and I know that’s not how Anet invisioned players would play this game.

There are a lot of good things about this expansion, but things are off, too many things that just kills the fun of the game for too many players in all game modes.

this thread is coming out the wrong way and is too selfish of op. if you don’t already know it, the best customers are those who complains. they let the company knows what’s wrong before more existing customers starts disappearing and potential customers staying away. by saying everything is fine, you’re not helping out by providing any negatives for the company to address. nothing in this world is perfect. i have not purchased hot and i appreciate seeing negative along with positive criticisms. so far my view is to avoid purchasing since one of the few accessible areas for me is wvw and it really fails to even match the previous maps in the fun factor.
