So I was playing the HoT beta having fun gliding off every ledge. I then went back to the core zone, jumped off a high ledge, went to use my glider then splat I was dead.

Hard getting into a habit of being able to use glider in just certain areas

Yeah, i don’t see why they can’t add it in to the core game for people that have got HoT. Most people that will be playing HoT will have already played the core game. So if anything it would add to the game and give us a reason to go back to the core game and its maps and look at them from a different perspective.

I really don’t see the harm in it. it would almost be a reward or bonus for get HoT.

It would require time and resources to redo all of the collision meshes in all of the levels to accompany gliding.

the same thing happened to me. I went to a major city and i suicide.. lol

Thats why I didn’t gave any feedback, tell them what…
1) This time the map felt smaller (but it was 3 floors/layers)…
2) gliding cannot be used outside jungle.
3) if I wish to jump in a vertical way down with gliding, just to avoid suicide (not just fly a big distance), I have to wait till the stamina ends? I press the buttons to cancel it, but it didn’t, I made circles for a while, till my stamina ended, so I could land. (this may be my fault, because I dont know the controlls of gliding yet…)

Pressing spacebar (or whatever you bound it to instead) cancels the glide. It worked fine for tons of people.

Yup!! Second hardest part of leaving the world of Maguuma!!! I must have died a dozen times forgetting about my glider being stationed in the branches of Verdant Brinks.

Funny! Mind you, but hard to get used to not having it again. Or the perma speed

Because the maps quite literally weren’t designed for it. The amount of time, effort and money required to redesign those maps isn’t worth it in the slightest, and that’s not even getting into how it would screw every single Jumping Puzzle up the butt without lube.

Reasons that I can think of, and I’m sure I’m not thinking of everything.

1) All the jumping puzzles and a few of the vistas would need to be reworked to keep people from gliding to the end.
2) Each map has barriers keeping us from breaking out. Every single border would have
to be redone.
3) since the maps are made for foot travel, flying is bound to expose ways to get out of maps that’s not available by air. All these would need to be found and patched over.
4) if you notice, there are a lot of hills in game that you can’t get to the top of. There are invisible walls blocking you. Presumably there is a reason for that, possibly unfinished parts of the map or holes up there. All those areas would need to be reworked.

Be careful what you ask for

Then why gliders and not fast mounts that can jump… lol

And what you mean maps are not designed for it. You mean the whole Magumma is 1 instance??? No loading areas?

Oyranos, it literally wouldn’t function. There’d be major collision issues and massive JP skips and such. The current maps are not designed for it because gliding would allow you to reach areas you’re not supposed to reach and do things you aren’t supposed to be able to. HoT maps are designed with gliding in mind, but current maps would have gliders either be pointless or game-breaking.

I feel like a lot of people arguing “it would break every map ever” are just parroting what Anet has said, which I believe isn’t entirely true.

Old maps are relatively flat. There are very few places where one could get enough height to glide beyond a map boundary or some other map breaking barrier. Some jumping puzzles and vistas could be broken by gliding, and those would have to be reworked. As for having to redo collision meshes for entire maps: Try looking at some of the old maps in Tyria 3D. They’re quite comprehensive as far as collision goes.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos

I’d rather they put time into class balance and fixing the godkitten pet classes in this game not having aoe resistance on minions/pets/illusions/spirit weapons before any dev time is spent redoing a jumping puzzle.

Quite comprehensive and completely comprehensive are not the same thing.

If it’s so easy to put it in, why did it take the WoW 2 months to put flying in the new expansion area? They said they just needed to finish up the maps. That game is set up for flying and those maps from that expansion aren’t as big as the vanilla Tyria maps, yet it took them 2 months to get rid of all the problems.

I’m confused because when playing the beta I was able to glide in The Silverwastes.

Is that map not grouped with the core ones when considering this?

Technically you were in an instance, not the map. I don’t think you’ll be able to glide in the silverwastes. The glider being available in that instance was most likely because it was a part of the beta and therefor ahd it “turned on”.

But if you want to know 100% sure, you can take your beta character to th silverwastes (outside of the story instance) and try it out in the next beta.
