Due to the fact the whoop-la of the pax interview is now done with, we can take a few good guess on some things.

(for the TLDR people I have the guesses at the bottom.)

First the facts:

  1. Each profession is getting one specialization(confirm at QA after party).
  2. No Polearms(also from QA)
  3. Necro will get a greatsword(From trailer)
  4. Engineer will get a hammer
  5. Mesmer will get a shield
  6. Ranger will get a staff

Some conclusions can be reached by this.

If any new weapons where going to be added they would have been pole arms.
Conclusion: No new weapons.
This is not surprising as it would require allot of work and effort to add a new weapon, as they would have to make a new model for every weapon set in the game.

Mesmers should be getting the same amount of weapons skills as the other classes.
Conclusion: Mesmers are getting two weapons, a primary and a offhand(shield)

Now for the deductions…

Elementalist

Will not get greatsword, axe, hammer, shield, or bow.
This is due to conjure weapons skins being available. An elementalist with Volcanus can be mistaken for an conjured weapon.

Maces are not tied to magic much.
Torches are not compatible with water attunemnet.
Pistols are possible but unlikely as they are not a magic weapon.

The main Possibilities are sword and war-horn.

  • my guess is sword/warhorn.
(although I personally wish for double swords XD)

Mesmer

With the offhand known the other must be a one handed weapon.
Possiblilites are:
axe, dagger, mace, pistol
Pistol is a wanted primary weapon for mesmer.
Pistol removes the only offhand only one handed weapon.
Pistol works with the chronomancer theme shown with the shield.

  • my guess is Pistol

Theif

It will not be one handed weapon due to theif’s Dual wield ability.
Each new one handed weapon will exponentially increase the number of skills needed to make just to fill skill 3. (3 or 7 new dual skills for this expansion.)
greatsword and hammer aren’t really stealthy weapons.
Longbow is unlikely as thief already has the short-bow.
Staff is possible(shadow mage?) but odd for theif.

  • my guess is rifle.

Guardian

A recent patch has made my guess for guardian. Yeserday’s balance patch also fixed: “Fixed a bug that caused warhorns to drop from the Piece of Guardian Gear boxes in Log-in Reward chests.” This sort of bug would be very odd. More likely a dev accidentally checked “warhorns” in the ‘what should drop’ area. While this might be a bug, It could also mean that he checked it not out of accidence but rather because he/she had been working bug testing HoT with their warhorn guardian all day.

With offhand guessed primary offhand is still to be decided.
primary guess is axe, dagger, pistol
Pistols are possible but very unlikely as they are not a magic weapon.
daggers are not a weapon a guardian would be using.

  • my guess is axe/warhorn

Warrior

This one was a bit difficult to guess.
Possibles Dagger Pistol focus torch shortbow staff scepter
Staff Scepter and Focus are out, warriors don’t use magic.
Short bow is unlikey as warriors already have the longbow
Dagger are not really the “Just hit it” kind of game-play warriors are known for.
Additionally, every other one handed weapon skill have been double weldable, they also have traits for it.

  • my guess is double pistol

To Sum it up:

  • Elementalist is Sword/Warhorn.
  • Mesmer is Pistol/Shield.
  • Thief is rifle.
  • Guardian is Axe/Warhorn
  • Warrior is double pistol

Most of these sound pretty likely, but you have to remember that there are going to be more specialisations in the future, so eventually some of the seemingly less likely weapons will be added as well, which means there is no particular reason one of the less likely weapons couldn’t be added in this expansion.

Mesmers should be getting the same amount of weapons skills as the other classes.

This is not necessarily true, a very recent interview states that specialisations differ in how much they change what. It is very possible that the mesmer will only get the shield as a weapon, and in returns has more substantial changes to its profession mechanic or more utility skills and traits.
This is the interview in case you were wondering

Then again, I’m not Arenanet, and everything in
the above post could be complete and utter nonsense.

Thief will be getting the rifle.

I posted this in a specializations thread but i felt it should be here to.

1. We know the engineers new specializations lets them wilding a hammer in this trailer with the drones buzzing around him so are there two very different engineers in this trail?

2. If that is indeed a engineer in the picture ,Anet have some funny ideas as to what a engineers should look like considering they put the hammer wilding engineer in the scene before in magitech armor http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magitech_Medium_Armor_Skin with is a perfect fit for any engineer but are we really suspected to believe they filmed a different engineer in the same trailer wilding a guild sharp shot rifle http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Guild_Sharp_Shot.jpg and totally different armour? Which im all most 99% certain is Heritage armour. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heritage_armor_

why would they go to all the trouble to have two totally different looking engineers in different equipment in the same trailer? I could understand if it was showing of new armour we can unlock in the maagma jungle but its not. Unless this is not an engineer but in fact is a thief wilding a rifle.

3. we know from the interveiw with Colin Johanson http://www.shacknews.com/article/87848/guild-wars-2-director-discusses-heart-of-thorns-revenants-guild-halls-and-more
Quote:
Each of the professions will be getting one of these Specializations and this also is a framework that we’ll use to grow the professions in the future. This will be the way we add more skills, traits, and abilities to the game moving forward. That’s how we’re growing our existing professions.
all profession at the launch of heart or thorns will be getting one specification and accesses to one weapon that chosen profession could not not use with out specializing first.
we already know the rangers specialization the Druid which unlocks the staff weapon.
we also know that the engineers new specialization even if we don’t yet know the name will give the engineer accesses to the hammer.
so from this we know that the character in this picture https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/179455/gw2_new.jpg can’t be a ranger but there is a very slim chance it could be a classic engineer kitted out in different gear with i doubt.

4.
If this readdit post http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2tk5t2/woodenpotatoes_expansion_confirmed_heart_of/ is in fact true it give us yet more informant about the trailer.

Quote:
Only combos he would confirm was ranger and necro weapons already shown. Though he hinted at looking closely at the trailer for others.
Colin Johanson here seam to hint at the likelihood that there are other specializations in the trailer with would also mean they are very probably wilding weapons not native to there profession. Like the engineer with its hammer which was never confirmed as a specialization but is the only open it can be because of all the other info we know.
The mesmer http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/grayskull8/mesmer_zps1bca34a4.png with her shield and this character which most believe to be a elementalist http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/grayskull8/ele_zps1d40b664.png with a main hand sward.
Would it not then make perfect scene to hide all the NEW specializations in the trailer kind of like a ester egg i know if i was designing a trailer i would hide them in the back ground with out pointing them out and see if people could spot them.

5.
After looking throw the trailer once more i fount this little Gem i misted.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu274/grayskull8/eng2_zpsea2ab685.png
This picture shows both the megitech armoured engineer and the Heritage armour wearing other characters on the same screen, so are we really saying these are both engineers in different armour in the same party why?
Do thief’s not get any screen time in this entire trailer seams fair right, or are thief in this trailer but hidden behind a specialization?

6. Final point If you where designing new specification for all the professions would you not wan’t to use all the weapons in game? what i mean here is give each profession a different weapon they could not normally use one per profession.
Why would you give two profession the use say the staff other give each profession there own new weapon perversely unusable by them, make scene right?

So to me its clear all of those points make me believe wholeheartedly this is indeed a thief wilding a rifle we are looking at which is super exciting, sniper profession =D

But its really is up to your if you chose to believe or not.

Only time will tell.

Why ? Becouse guardian has Spirit Weapons, and only Spirit Longbow is unused weapon on him.
So guardian will get longbow to me.

completely agree, plus guard doesn’t have any long range (900-1500) 2 handed weapons, where as all other classes do. And also along the line of spirit weapons being similar to the guard’s skills … all of the spirit weapon skills are very similar to guardian skills so I wonder if we will get a large aoe heal similar to the spirit bow.

I half agree half disagree with the Spirit Weapon theory because there is no reason why the Bow of Truth ends up being a Longbow and not a Shortbow.

But my guess ends up being Longbow as well, because “somebody” at PAX said they really wanted a Longbow(Wings of Dwayna) for their Guardian.

The thing is, they removed Warhorn from the possible drops for Guardian. That kind of means that this was unintended. If I were a dev and knew Warhorn was going to be part of the list in a few months, I would not have bothered removing it just to re-add it a few months down the road. The fact that it got fixed says that this was a mistake and that there is no intention for Guardians to equip Warhorns.

True, true.

But there was one person in that video wearing medium HoM armor carrying a rifle. We know already that rangers get a staff and that engies get a hammer. That makes it likely that the medium profession rifle carrying person is a thief.

I could finally understand the ‘overpowered’ complaints about specialization if this happened. 2-handed weapons do more base damage than one handed counterparts so wielding 2 would be ridiculous. Not to mention having 4 sigils equipped at once? Even if the skills did barely anything in addition to the base damage of a greatsword or hammer they’d probably be doing more damage than anything out right now.

I would like Kymswarden to have a one handed counterpart (like it is in GW1) though.

The phrase “…unlock access to a weapon previously unavailable to your profession…” is on the info page, so it sounds like it’s a ONE and ONLY ONE sort of deal. With that in mind, I don’t think Mesmer will be getting a new Main Hand weapon along with their Shield.

Its magic, there is no reason a torch can not be used with water.
However based on the trailer analysis the Ele seems to be getting a sword.

also why would you ignore bows on guardian? They need a ranged weapon and there is more to hint at a long bow then anything else, its the only spirit weapon they cant use yet.

Some interesting suggestions. However, I think most weapons could be made to work with all professions personally. If they can make greatsword a ranged weapon for mesmer they can make a torch shoot water spells.

Another thing to consider is not just whether the wepoan would work aesthetically or thematically, but they stated that the new specializations will be filling a gap that the profession may have. As an example, the Thief lacks support compared to other professions, so their specialization may well be a more supportive role. As much as I think rifle would fit the thief, I am not sure it would make an ideal support weapon. But who knows, anything is possible.

I am intrigued by how the engineer will use the hammer. As the hammer is traditionally a controlling weapon and the engineer is already strong in that role, it will be interesting to see what abilities the engi hammer will provide.

My guesses would be as follows:

Mesmer: Shield = A more tanky control based role.
Engineer: Hammer = Not sure what role this will fill as the engi seems pretty good all round.
Ranger: Staff = Maybe more support and control? Not sure is I have not played ranger as much as other professions.
Necromancer: Greatsword = Might be a more direct damage burst role, as necros can lack in that regard sometimes.
Thief: Either Off-hand Sword/Rifle = I would guess a more supportive role, as they are pretty strong on the damage and control front, and can evade like no body’s business, so can be pretty tanky if built right.
Guardian: Longbow = Long range direct damage maybe?
Warrior: Staff (as a melee weapon) = Not sure what role this will fill, maybe support? The warrior seems pretty strong all round I think, though maybe less so in support.
Elementalist: Mace = Not sure why but I can picture the ele using a mace, but as they are pretty good all round I am not sure what role it will fill. Maybe more control oriented?

To be honest, it is a very difficult thing to guess, but I am really looking forward to finding out.

Yeah, sword is an option, and would fit the popular spellsword archtype, but Anet don’t always do what people expect do they? And I mean that in a good way.

I’d be happy with sword, but just feel a mace would be more interesting and a bit different .

indeed warrior seems to be the most difficult to come up with… I cant really tell or figure whats coming. Some ppl talked about torch, though its simply an off-hand and reminds more a raider (thief variant in other titles), setting enemies on fire from a distance.

I would love to dual wield pistols yeah, but I see it mostly as a personal fantasy than anything else… jungle is about survival, and nowadays whats a soldier ultimate companion for any situation (real life comparisson)?… a military knife, a short blade for desperate times… a dagger.

For me thats the most logical weapon, since spears are sadly out of the table which are probably the most survival like weapon, since it can be made from a simple wood stick… but hey! you always need a dagger to shape it right?

Except it was not the only mistake that was originally in class boxes, just the last one that got fixed. Warhorn was there most likely because they used warrior box as a basis and then just removed/addes stuff and missed warhorn.

Also, i thought it was confirmed there will be just one weapon per specialization added, not more, so i guess Mesmers, for example, will get just the shield. Though this doesn’t rule out possibility of some class getting the same weapon as main and offhand, come to think.
