On June 18th this message was posted by ArenaNet:
" Tyrian world governments have agreed to cede ownership of the ruins to successful guilds so long as they maintain a presence in those places and defend them from recapture by the dragons."
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-halls-taken-from-the-enemy/

Since then we haven’t heard or been given any information on how to defend the guild hall or when these attacks will occur. Has the idea of defending your guildhall been scrapped?

I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that was meant as a flavor text, lore thing.

I doubt anet is going to require defending them against waves of mordrem.

An idea could be that modrems do small raids at random times, and you could have an situation where the entire guild is asleep except one person and he uses defensive mechanisms to fight the entire thing of himself, and of course be the hero of the day!

But if they would loose, then reclaiming it should only be killing the monsters, not paying gold or anything.

Except they mention defending Guild Halls, like 3 times this year.

That sounds like a very fun idea.

Sounds fun but I can see it becoming a tiresome activity if it’s a common event and a smaller guild is filled with people who operate on a similar schedule, as they usually are.

If they did have such a system. It would be best to set the frequency of the attacks to the roster size. Larger guilds would have more people on during a wider range of time than smaller ones and wouldn’t have to constantly recap the ruins.

Or let’s add some GvG into it, a guild sends a challenge to another guild and if they accept then the battle can begin (or can be scheduled for a later time). The “attacking” guild is using Mordrem skins, maybe even costumes that give them Mordrem-like abilities, while the defending guild is using their own characters. Give some victory conditions, for example killing a “Lord” and you are all set.

The posibilities are endless, but probably nothing that will come with HoT release.

As I understand it, the “defending the Guild Halls” part is to explain why there’s going to be NPC guards in your hall. They keep it secure while you’re gone.

Needing those NPC guards is part of the reason why guilds can’t just go out and claim the ruins without paying the Guild Authority.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

That kind of makes sense, if that is what they were going for, thanks.

Maybe it’ll be a new guild mission to defend your guild hall.

I am lazy to write it over and over. So sorry for my English.

I hope it is and it comes sooner rather than later, good idea.

It’s flavor text really.

You mount a raid to clear the mordrem out, and the basic assumption is that by occupying the site you’re also keeping out further mordrem incursions “off screen”

an occasional “defend the guild hall” or “Mordrem den found beneath the guild hall, eliminate it!” guild mission in the new randomized system would be cool, though actual defense events IN the hall are problematic because of the decorations. It would make people prioritize decorations as defensive structures, which is a cool idea, but not necessarily the intent of the current version of that system.

If it were some sort of instance door found inside the guild map I could see it working though, just a tunnel you need to fight to the end of and kill a boss, kind of like a miniature version of the original fight to claim.

Or a particular section of the guild hall, like the entrance that needs to be protected before the Mordrem do a complete invasion. Would be neat, maybe the npcs will shut down their merchandise and/or hide. Similar to that marketplace with the crafting stations in Caledon and Sparkfly Fen.
