I think every guardian will agree with a delay of HoT if it’s in favor of a new specialisation for the guardian.

The DragonHunter is really wrong. At minimum, you should rename it and promise to do a spec that feel like “Oh, i’m so happy my main is a guardian !” the next time.

Or you can create a new spec with the DragonHunter theme of revenge against the dragon, it’s high concept and synergies well with Daredevil.

Batman:

The Guardian learns from the wyvern and becomes the Batman and uses now an offhant pistol and tool kits.

- F2 BatClaw.
- F3 Batcap and block incoming attack.

Trait:
- Master of the Gliding (very swag with HoT).

Utility:
- BatBelt, with Batsmoke that give stealth to the guardian.
- Batarang

Elite:
- BatSignal: The signal call Batman somewhere and he is teleported to this place. (Mesmer portal is useless for Batman).

Batman would never use a gun. It’s the one weapon he’s sworn he’d never use because it is the instrument that killed his parents.

You are committing a few logical fallacies in this, but this is the one which stands out the most.

First, you can bet that only a minority will mind the elite spec. Why? Because external discussion is biased towards unhappy opinions. So even if 100% of the forum population were to say that they don’t want the spec, I think a figure thrown around during WoW days was 15% of the players who engage on the forums at all. Meaning that you’d still have 85% which are either ambivalent or happy with it.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

It’s not a gun, it’s his grapple gun with only mobility skills.

Would also give room to exciting new Missions, voiceovers, traits and JP:
*The dirty hole: *

A new jumping puzzle where the legs of your character are broken, and you have, in real time of course, watch how his wounds heal before you can attempt to climb the JP. No chest reward at the end at all of course, only a rope that someone could have thrown in to rescue a relative all the time, but did not do…
New Voice overs:
“I AM BATMAN!”
repeated over and over while you glide.
New Missions:
Go and stop Batman!
Wherever you are on the map, a band of joker look alike Asura jumps you and beats the garbage out of you if you can´t fend them off. Of course they don´t kill you but put you in a mission you could not escape from by all means human, but you still can. Because you are Batman!
New trait:
Catwoman loves me!
Every female charr NPC and PC turns head as soon as you appear on a given map. PCs can actively attempt to resist by running in the opposite direction, but NPC charr will flock around you.

And don´t forget the other type of specialization possible, the Judge Dread voice over:
I AM THE LAW!
With Sylvester Stallone voice over of course, no Carl Urban at all. You can have a pistol there…

I heard from a friend of a cousin of an anet employee that the hammer engineer elite spec is already planned to be called Thor, so no Batman would be too much.

More seriously, I could be ok for a delay if anet gives to guard a better spec.

I don’t even main Guardian and I would prefer this over Dragonhunter. Then again, I would also prefer a nice tall glass of milk over Dragonhunter and I’m lactose intolerant. It’s just so bad. I don’t think the individual aspects of the specialisation work together at all in any meaningful or effective way which makes the spec fundamentally broken from my point of view. I also worry that Anet is going to dive headfirst into the sunken cost fallacy by trying to tweak concepts that aren’t working with the very limited time they have left in their intended 2015 release window.

I’ll play the upcoming BWE and test it, but considering the released change notes I don’t think any of the underlying problems with the spec have been fixed. I also don’t think they will because the scale of the required changes would be too large. If Dragonhunter isn’t shoved out the door a hot, broken mess when HoT launches, I’ll be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it.

Although, on a lighter note, the trait that makes the basic longbow attack periodically perform knockbacks is going to cause no end of hilarity when players start using that outside the beta. Speaking as someone who mains Ranger, I can reliably inform you that community just loves players with longbows who throw out knockbacks on enemies multiple times a minute. Maybe that’s what the Dragonhunter is so desperately missing: Bears.

So much truth in just one post. I salute you, good sir.

But to be honest, i see my guardian as more of a dog guy instead of a bear. But how do you harass a dragon with a bear or a dog? They can´t fly, so would be pretty useless against a dragon. I´d suggest some flying beast instead of a bear.
Maybe an owl? It can, uhm, warn you at night if a dragon approaches.
Or an eagle? It can circle high over the dragon in case you have missed it´s giant footprint where it landed.
Or a raven? I heard nothing scares a 10 ton dragon more than a 10 pound raven.

This is a scary proposition to delay the game so include content specific for certain classes and the desires of those who play them. If they even took this serious it would lead to delaying the game expansion by years. This is a joke at best.

Given the current state and apparent design of the Dragonhunter, I think a bear would be a perfect fit. You raise excellent points about a bear being completely useless in a ranged combat role, but rather than this precluding the bear as an addition, I think that’s what makes it the perfect choice. We just have to frame the presentation to the player the right way.

So, without further ado, I am pleased to present this new suggestion for the Dragonhunter specialisation: The Bear Trap.

I think, ideally, this would be a trap that the Dragonhunter lays and then when the stars align and something eventually wanders over it, a bear will launch itself out of the ground, run straight towards the toughest enemy it can find, aggro it and train it right back onto you.

Which would actually be really useful given the Dragonhunter’s trap utilities now that I think about it. We may have accidentally found the key to fixing the Dragonhunter here. It doesn’t need a knockback, it needs a strong taunt.

No, every guardian would not agree. I know several guardians that love the elite spec. Also, as pointed out, people on the forums are a minority of the players.

Do not presume to speak for everyone.

DH has really no place on Guardian. Doesn’t have more condi, or damage or group support. Virtues are worse and longbow and traps have no sinergy. Also I don’t see a great improvement from scepter to longbow.

Even the name sucks, but that’s another thread.

Hm, how about a norn changed into a bear instead of a common bear, with a mexican wrestler mask inclusive? Could take the opponent in a submission hold and drag him over to the Dragonhunter…^^

Nope.

I’m not greatly enthused about the dragonhunter either (particularly the name), but what it represents is actually a valuable addition to the game: Effectively, the return of secondary professions. Dragonhunter is, basically, a guardian/ranger.

For many guardian mains, this is largely pretty meh, because what drew us to the profession is the core gameplay and not going off on a tangent. For some, guardian mains or not, this is an awesome addition. Unless ArenaNet does another backflip, we’ll be seeing more specialisations in the future, and some of those specialisations will be more like the chronomancer (providing new options within the profession’s core gameplay) than the dragonhunter (taking the gameplay in a very different direction) and those will hopefully be more to our liking.

I certainly don’t think it’s worth delaying the release in order to destroy an elite specialisation that some people are happy with (the general concept at least – it does have a few problems in the numbers as well) and bring in something that’s been built from scratch at the last minute.

Which would actually be really useful given the Dragonhunter’s trap utilities now that I think about it. We may have accidentally found the key to fixing the Dragonhunter here. It doesn’t need a knockback, it needs a strong taunt.

Like this?

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

You are absolutly correct.
I’m not sure bout other countries, but in mine at high school your have lessons in argumenting a case. The first chapter in that lesson is to avoid speaking on behalf of others. If you do, you allready did.

The OP assumes he has the authority to speak on behalf of all guardians. That assumption is incorrect (I’m a guardian and he is not speaking on my behalf). But even if he presents a lot of guardians that agree with him, he still can’t. To speak on behalf of a group you need a mandate. So in argueing, it would be best to avoid speaking for others, but if you do, give evidence of the mandate that give you the right to speak on behalf of others. If you pretend to speak on behalf of others, you allready last the argument when you can’t back up that claim with evindence you got the right to do so.
In other words. The OP is wrong.

I think the biggest issue with the elites is people aren’t thinking about how it’s a new play style. They are acting like it’s an upgrade gone wrong.

DH was rough during bwe1 but since we’ve seen a lot of updates coming to it for bwe2 and bwe3. So points of the OP are extremely invalid.
