Did Anyone Unlock Precursor Mastery?
You need mastery points and they’re not available for Central Tyria during betas AFAIK.
They had masteries disabled completely in tyria. It just went back to a normal experience bar if you left VB.
They don’t want people stockpiling the things you’ll need for precursors before hand. If you want to be very rich, ignore HoT content completely and grind out the precursor masteries in a 24 hour binge run on release.
First person to unlock them gets to be very very rich.
Noone will get rich from these precursors, they are account bound.

Only the new ones from HoT. Existing precursors will be able to be sold.

There’s nothing in the blog about it at all. It was clarified in one of the followup interviews. Basically, all precursors from the crafting collections will be account bound, and you will be able to receive one of them per account. All old precursor acquisition methods will continue to work, and will produce unbound precursors. All new legendaries (unlike old ones) will be account bound on creation. What is currently unknown is if there will be other sources for new precursors (though mf will not work, they will also not be in the normal drop tables) and they will be account bound anyway.

He might mean controlling the market on scraps of gossamer, or whatever materials the new legendary recipes might require. Although he could mean charging for “Dancing with Queen Jenna” — who knows?
It’ll be interesting to see how market-dependent the new recipes will be. The alternative is task-based, or based on materials you can acquire via map rewards or via the new Supply-Line Management mastery.
If ArenaNet are listening, I hope you’ll make it the latter. Many of us who don’t have legendaries yet are in that spot because we don’t (or won’t) play the game to support the market fetish of TP flippers.

Hmm, I also understood this differently too. Maybe they did change it.
So maybe he’s talking about selling quested precursors before the price on the TP crashes. I wonder how many people will leave their buy orders up for launch?

I thought this was worded differently before as well…in fact I’m pretty certain that they originally had it where crafting precursors through the mastery track made the precursor and legendary account bound, but I suppose this is not the case.
Regardless, you can only craft each precursor once per account, so you could sell it afterward, but then you would not be able to make another one. It may not be account-bound, but it seems like a guaranteed opportunity, with enough work put in, for every account to get one without needing to rely on RNG (though it seems like it will take a while regardless, which is good).

Almost certainly some of the collection will involve tradable items. I suspect MOST of it will be task oriented, but there will always be something that can be traded, and that item or items will skyrocket in price. This has held true for every new shiny thing Anet has introduced and I can’t see them doing a complete 180 on this.
I only got precursor mastery up about 1/2 way. The only way to train that one was to do the initial instance in the silverwastes and I thought about trying to level that up but had other stuff to do this past weekend.
I farmed this mastery in about 4 hours with some xp boosting i got from PvP instance (bank) and yes i can’t unlock it since we dont have any points^^’

For sure, but what if I can buy those tradeable items with karma via the Supply Line Mastery?
I bet crafting the precursor eats almost as much gold worth in mats as a precursor currently costs.

that’s perfectly fine tbh. The main complaint about precursors is the RNG nature.
New Legendary Weapons
I know you’re all dying for more information on new legendary weapons, but we’d like to delve into them more with a dedicated blog post in the future. For now, I’ll say that we’ve been working kitten new legendary weapons, the first handful of which will be introduced in Heart of Thorns, with more to come in subsequent updates. The methods by which you’ll craft these legendary weapons are similar to the existing system, but we’ve refined it into more of a journey, similar to precursor crafting. We also want to better preserve the prestige associated with crafting a legendary weapon, so the new legendary weapons, and their precursors, will not be tradable. Keep an eye out—we can’t wait to start showing them off when they’re ready
What’s important about the new precursor and legendary is in bold.
The precursors currently in game can be sold, but you can only craft one of each. If you want more you need to be just as lucky as you need to be now or buy one.

The blog post says that the precursors to the full precursor will be account-bound but that the precursor itself will be a tradable exotic. So it’s kinda both? I suppose we’ll find the truth when HoT comes out.
On-topic: it was possible to fill the exp bar in the beta silverwastes zone, but to unlock it you needed a Central Tyria mastery point which were not available during the beta.
Heart of Maguuma Mastery Points are different from Central Tyria Mastery Points

Actually, you should read what you quoted again. It says “For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon”
Dadnir has it right. The line in that very blog post talking about the new precursors says:
By completing this collection, you’ll unlock a recipe to craft the first iteration of your precursor—a nontradable exotic weapon with a distressed version of the existing precursor skin.
All this work allows you to refine your base precursor into its next iteration. Completing this collection unlocks a recipe to do just that, resulting in another nontradable exotic weapon with the existing precursor skin.
We also want to better preserve the prestige associated with crafting a legendary weapon, so the new legendary weapons, and their precursors, will not be tradable.

Please read the blog post again. You’re taking various parts of it out of context and re-piecing them together in a way to suit your argument (or you didn’t understand the blog post).
As of now, there’s a conflict between their blog post and that interview linked which would be nice to have some clarification on. The video was posted on March 8th and the blog post was published in March 26th. Normally the most recent information supersedes the older but we’ll see.

Here, I’ll just take that in full.
Each legendary weapon has two main themes that will be represented in the precursor journey. The first tier of a precursor journey starts with a collection built around one of these themes. Let’s use the Moot as an example. A moot is a norn celebration of prowess, so that’s the basis of our themes for the legendary mace named for it. The first collection is all about the hunt, so you’ll be proving your abilities by fighting fierce creatures around Tyria and acquiring a trophy to show for it. By completing this collection, you’ll unlock a recipe to craft the first iteration of your precursor—a nontradable exotic weapon with a distressed version of the existing precursor skin. It could use a little polish and refinement, which will be the focus of the second tier collection.
The second collection in your journey involves doing your research, talking to the experts, and honing your craft. You’ll need to barter for knowledge, seek out great minds and convince them to teach you their tricks, and prove your ability at the crafting workbench. All this work allows you to refine your base precursor into its next iteration. Completing this collection unlocks a recipe to do just that, resulting in another nontradable exotic weapon with the existing precursor skin.
The final collections in these precursor journeys return to the themes of their respective legendary weapon. For the Moot, this is where the celebrating starts. Since the Moot’s theme is all about partying, you’ll participate in a range of activities that include dancing with world leaders, setting off fireworks for the Spirits of the Wild, and sampling delicacies and libations from around Tyria. This final collection unlocks the recipe to craft the polished final iteration of the precursor. For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon, but they will all be updated to use new skins that look much like the legendary weapons they’ll one day become. We like to think of these new precursor skins as the legendary weapon before it is embodied by its soul. Unlocking one of these new skins in your wardrobe will also unlock the two previous tiers of skins. So, should you get lucky and find a precursor out in the world, you won’t miss out on the skins.
This crafting system is an account-based activity, which means you’ll only be able to craft each precursor this way once. However, all of the currently existing precursor acquisition methods will remain intact in addition to this new acquisition method. That means that if you want a particular precursor more than once, you’ll have to fall back to the original methods of acquisition.
Once you have your completed precursor, you are free to begin the process of turning it into a legendary weapon. It’s a long process of gathering the required materials to craft gifts that will eventually be given to Zommoros—the djinn at the heart of the Mystic Forge—who in return gifts you with your powerful legendary weapon.
Map Bonuses
While the update to precursor acquisition makes for a huge change in the way we craft legendary weapons, our new Map Bonuses system will also make acquiring the materials you need a more directed activity. With Heart of Thorns, most explorable maps will have an associated set of bonus rewards that rotate on a regular basis. Starter maps will not be included in order to preserve the new-player experience. By completing events, jumping puzzles, and mini-dungeons in a map, you’ll be periodically awarded with one of its associated bonuses in addition to the normal rewards. For most maps, the bonus reward will be crafting materials. For instance, playing in Cursed Shore could reward you with ancient bones, charged cores, charged lodestones, or giant eyes during one rotation, and powerful venom sacs, glacial cores, glacial lodestones, or globs of ectoplasm during another rotation.
Maps like the Silverwastes or Dry Top that have a dedicated currency will work a little differently. For these maps, bandit crests and geodes have been something of a test for this concept, where you’re rewarded with these currencies through a bouncy chest for playing on the map. The Map Bonuses system is a more streamlined experience, and with Heart of Thorns, these maps will be updated to always award currencies through the Map Bonuses system. Moving forward, any map with a similar currency will also work within the Map Bonuses system.
The goals of this system are to provide ways for players to target the materials they need, let players know exactly where to obtain those materials, and help all explorable maps always feel like relevant and rewarding places to play.

I admit that I could have misread the last part, taking new legendary weapons to mean all the legendaries we craft this way and not just the HoT ones, but it still does say that the precursors crafted this way will not be tradable. Given that it doesn’t explicitly state it in the blog post that legendaries will be, I don’t see any discrepancies here.
EDIT: We could also just be looking at what they mean by “existing” precursors differently too. I take it to mean that precursors obtained the way they currently are, and those that exist going into the expansion, will continue to be tradable, and not that an existing precursor here simply means one that already exists, even if obtained in the new way.

Existing precursors are those that already exist in the game. They didn’t differentiate between those that current are in player possession and those that you can craft. Based on the statement being right after them talking about crafting the final version of the precursor, the article is likely referring to the old set that you can get today. The various iterations that are account bound that you linked are about as relevant to the final version tradeable status as the legendary gifts for legendaries you can craft today as being relevant to their tradeable status.
The only section that referred to precursors and legendaries being account bound was at the end which was the section specific to new precursors and legendary weapons coming with the expansion.

I would still disagree, and I still don’t see anything that provides the evidence for your interpretation, even if I can see how it would be taken. I still don’t think there are any discrepancies between the blog post and the interview (which, as you stated, is also newer, and I’d say is also closer to an absolute fact than something that can be interpreted differently) either.
I won’t try to argue it further though, as I don’t think we’ll ever end up changing the other’s mind.
I think you missed something. All progress during betas made on the beta characters will be deleted before HoT goes live. It therefore doesn’t matter if you were to max everything out, you would end up with zilch anyway.
Even if you did get everything sorted and made a precursor you still wouldn’t be able to sell it as beta characters cannot use the TP or mail stuff.
Normal characters cannot get the stuff or do masteries until HoT goes live.
Great plan though.
I think you’ve missed something, Serious, actually. The point is that the new precursor crafting system may include items that are currently available and tradeable, and if that news got out people would be pouncing on them now. It’s not that people want to make precursors in beta, it’s that they want to know what is involved so they can get ready in advance of live launch.
My original question really was just curiosity as to whether anyone had done the unlock, and that’s been answered with a no, thanks to the lack of Pact Tyria mastery points. I was wondering more from a testing viewpoint than wanting to get a leg up, and I think it makes a lot of sense that they withheld the information at this point.

If they were able to see what was needed, they could stock pile anything tradeable on their non-beta characters and then sell it for profit once HoT launches and it becomes known to more players.
You guys are making things super complicated. Think of it this way.
All precursors are are currently just one thing. In HoT all of the precusors will have different stages with different skins associated. The current precursors as we know them will be the stage four version (and won’t be account bound). However, stages 1-3 (which are new and not currently in game) will be account bound.
That’s all there is to it.

It’s in the blog. And when that blog release, everyone kind of agree the precursor will be tradable. That is the consensus during that time on the forum.
Some of the information people provide are outdated information or information on new legendary or precursor for the new legendary(which according to the developer won’t be tradable).
If the old precursors acquired by the masteries will be tradable, i will be pretty sad. I think it would ruin the economy.

It might make some of them go down in price for a little bit, but everyone can only craft one of each precursor anyway. Also it’s going to take a fair amount of time and effort to craft a precursor, so really the effect will probably be minimal.
My expectation is that they will not be trade-able, especially if you can only make one.

the current precursers can be be traded the new precursers wont be meaning this
all ones done in mastery wont be traded any of them at all, but if you get one as a drop it will be tradable after hot and the ones before hot .

You have to actively choose to read it wrong in order to not understand.
It is very clear in that it says the new precursors will be a new thing using the old skin. They’re very clear in clarifying that the new versions of the current precursors will not be the same item. Since they’re making a clear distinction between the new version and the old version it is equally clear that when they say existing precursors they only mean the ones that drop as RNG. The new collection based ones will not be the existing ones, they will simply use the same skins as the existing ones. They specifically point this out in the blog.
They will not be tradeable.

Traders stop spreading wrong information!
Fact is (from blogpost and Interview and everywhere) all precursor from collections and from these precursor crafted legendary’s WILL BE ACCOUNTBOUND!
Current rng precursor and new rng precursor will be tradeable! There is nothing to discuss about these facts or to understand different. Everyone who tells otherwise just wants precursor droping in price right now to buy them and get alot of gold with HoT release…
Where in the blog post did it state that? It only said that in the part where it was referring to the new legendary weapons, and its precursors, which haven’t been revealed yet.
No. With how the blog is written, it’s saying that the precursors from the collections for the existing legendary set will be tradeable.
“This final collection unlocks the recipe to craft the polished final iteration of the precursor. For all of our existing precursors, this is a tradable exotic weapon, but they will all be updated to use new skins that look much like the legendary weapons they’ll one day become.”
It goes immediately from talking about the final collection awarding a precursor to how this is a tradeable weapon. The last section then stated all of the HoT precursors and legendary weapons will be account bound.

No. You are correct that they were being very clear, but you are completely misunderstanding.
“Each legendary weapon has two main themes that will be represented in the precursor journey.
Basically:
Stage 1 not tradeable, Stage 2 not tradeable, Stage 3 final precursor stage and is tradeable for all the current precursors.
