Q:
Disable Hearts and Minds until it works?
I saw people complaining about bugs when I finished it. I never saw one bug during the entire instance. If I could tell you how I seem to have avoided these numerous bugs, I would. The six gods smiled upon me, maybe?
I guess that not everyone is being affected by the bugs.

Except it does work sometimes. I’ve helped two others beat the fight and am bearing down on being the instance starter on a sylvari. I’d hate to be barred from even trying.
Sounds like I’ve been very lucky. Done it on two characters now and it bugged only once.
The I’ve finished the Hearts and Minds 5 separate times now. Some instances have been smooth and some buggy. When the bugs do occur it’s usually possible to finish. It is rather annoying to go back through the series of fights.
Oddly, I was exploring and wandered out of the instance area. I received a message to return to the demo.
HoT in general has an unfinished and rushed feel. My strong suspicion is that there simply wasn’t enough time to finish things. I recall the stress in “grump” as he joked on twitch, “ship it.”
On the one hand, HoT had been announced and sold and it was taking too long to release. On the other, it really wasn’t ready for release. We may well still be playing the demo.
So I suspect that it will be left as is while a lot of catch up work is done. It works well enough to get through with some patience. I suggest you work through it, or grab a group to make it easier. Perhaps the less time you spend fighting, the lower the chance of encountering problems.

It’s worked fine the last several times I have beaten it. It should not be disabled.
I’ve noticed that the bugs start when you die during the final fight with Mordy.
My first instance was buggy as hell because I died a lot there.
Second instance was with another person, we wiped once and there were some bugs but less than the first time, yet we managed to finish it.
My third instance was completed with only one death at start (Eir killed me) and there were no bugs.
So until all bugs are fixed, I’d suggest you OP to be as careful as you can be in order to not die. If you managed to not die and still had bugs then my bad

Didn’t die, we were both solo-ing separately, endless bugs – amazed at how 12+ hrs of resetting and repeating between us wouldn’t yield one single workable instance for either of us.

Hmm… I’ve completed it twice now… Works for me!
Oh man that sucks. Try to do the instance together, maybe it will work. Anyway, good luck.

I have to ask.. are you absolutely sure that they all really were bugs and not just some of the fight’s mechanics that you possibly did not figure out? I mean that bad luck really sounds odd.
I’ve solo’d it 5 times. My first trip through took something on the order of 6 hours. Having learned the fights better, I can solo it in an hour or two now.
Bugs are random, though moderately rare.
The first time I went through (like day 2 or 3 after release) it was really buggy, especially since I died a couple times during the final fight so there were issues with mechanics, terrain not loading, the rift not working, and gliding not working. Spent about two hours in that instance before I gave up, partied with a friend to do it and finished it just fine. I’ve done it a couple times since then, much smoother. They seem to have added an interaction with the updrafts to help with gliding if that’s the problem. Also at the very last segment, sometimes if you activate the rift before all the adds are killed, it bugs and keeps the boss invulnerable.
There are bugs, but it definitely works. I would recommend partying up the first time through though.

Why would you spend 5 and 7 hours each on that? Surely there was something more important or fun to do elsewhere in game. When bugs exist that make things impossible to progress, I don’t keep bashing my head into it thinking eventually all will be good. This is a l2p issue. Learn to play around bugs and spend your time more efficiently. It’ll save you the stress in game and the obligatory snarky forum reply to your rant about it.
Had one or two bugs with NPCs not converting or becoming Immune to the rift pull.
Oddly, that was less frustrating than the murder-floor phase with no proper tells of what to do.

I had no game breaking bugs when I did it. There were some cases where the NPC didn’t get pulled into the rifts, but that was fixed by just channeling it again, and any time I reflected with Cannach’s shield, the illusion would destroy the projectile before it hit so often that I couldn’t break his bar before it started regenerating, but that was fixed by just dropping the shield and killing him with regular attacks.
That said, 1/1 is hardly a large sample size.
I’ve done it one 2 toons so far, once solo, and once duo; currently trying it on a third toon, but kitten it is so buggy, more than half the time my rifts are spawning out in open air.

I only encountered two bugs: the first was the fact that the portal thing at the end of fight disappeared after fighting shadow creatures (though it could be due to the fact that the instance owner died). After our last team member kamikazed herself we found ourselves doing the beginning and end of the fight at the same time (e.g. we had to fight our illusionary companions again while Modremoth was dying).
So just joined a pug, I was the last one left alive in the final phase but I didn’t have enough CC to break his bar so I killed myself. When we restarted he was still on the final phase, with all of his previous abilities and all of the shadows and mind creation things up all at once. Luckily we could burn him from 100% to 30% or whatever triggers the break bar phase again, while ignoring all of the adds, and then finish him.
Good job anet.
When I did it, I died during the final mob defense phase. So, once I rezzed, I waited momentarily since last time the platforms didn’t come back.
Once I jumped down, the final portal was still there. So, by the time I got to Canach, I beat him, activated his portal, then the NPCs were shouting to finish it. So I used the final portal, stunned him, and it was pretty much over. Completely bypassed at least 2 parts of the fight in the process.
What purpose would disabling it serve exactly?
Many people, myself included, managed to get through it bug free. It’s not as if its spitting out a high volume of economically damaging mats and giving those that complete it some sort of advantage.

It definitely should be shut down until they fix the bugs. It’s wrong to let people spend that much time at something only to have it bug out.

Then simply don’t do it. What’s wrong is to force those who are still willing to do it to wait until there is a fix when the instance is still quite doable.

I’m not having trouble until I get to the glider phase. How are you supposed to see the launch things that throw you in the air? Are you supposed to stay close to Mordremoth? The shield from the NPC’s doesn’t shield you, so yeah. I just don’t know how you’re really supposed to launch, apart from that, there’s a bug where he breaks the area where the first Reality Rift spawns when you engage him, and if it happens, you have no choice but to wait and die, even though Caithe heals you. There needs to be a way to launch into the air clearly.
Edit: There’s also a bug where you just fall through the ground, I don’t know why. I liked the other bosses (I chose Braham and Caithe). With Eir and Garm, I just killed Garm once, and Eir just stood on him not attacking me or doing anything, so it was just me attacking her until she died…The Pale Tree was harder but interesting.

It was a buggy mess when I tried to do it on Sunday, 11/8. I tried solo and with groups for a total of 2hrs. Finally did it with a group due to a horrible bug lol.
They all had died due to the glider bug. I kept wailing on Mordy. I knew we could not advance without the party leader but I was so frustrated with this fight I just kept hitting him. I died on the last glider part. We all went back in using the reentry. And then bam, all of the phases were happening at once. Mordy’s health was still low but he was invulnerable. New mobs were attacking and every now and then the blighted did their original dialogue and showed up. He would become killable after we dealt with them. I was typing, “it’s bugged just keep killing everything”. And we did. We finally got the finish him request. Fight and story over. I dread doing that on my alt and probably never will unless people confirm that all the bugs are gone.
If that is not a buggy mess, I don’t know what is. It should be fixed asap or shutdown to save others the frustration.

I guess our definitions of “doable” aren’t the same. currently I have a 1 in 4 no bug completion rate, that is not doable, that is broken. Maybe when you’ve spent 2 hours trying to simply complete the thing you’ll understand why it should be shut down until fixed….

Well I’ve done the instance about 5 times and it only really bugged on me that first Saturday morning. I haven’t had any issues since then that prevented me from completing it. I’ll also likely be doing it 6 more times with my other characters as well. I don’t foresee having problems. While there are people having issues, it’s not as prevalent to warrant shutting down the instance until it gets fixed.

Waited just over an hour for the Bitter thingie to basically kill itself as got knocked off ledge and bugged into vines.
Then formed a 3 man for the Hearts and Minds, defeated everything and guess what? Bugged, no reward, nada.
What a waste of my evening.
ArenaNet should include a system where when a big amount of bug report are sent for a mission (part of your personal story), before going in, a warning message should tell you that ArenaNet is currently investigating bugs with the mission and therefore there’s a chance that you might not be able to complete it properly, and suggest you to try later. You can still do it if you want, but at least you’ll be warned and I think a lot of users will just wait until ArenaNet fixes it. This way, players won’t waste their time on buggish missions that cannot be completed.
