So that the game is free now, I bought the game about 2012- early 2013. All of my friends that bought it with me got a free copy of the latest expansion with no cost and they got the game the same day I did.
Do i also get it free? Do i need to wait for it to be activated?

Anyone comming into the game now just has to buy heart of thorns and they will have access to everything ,the base game is free but if you want access to everything you buy heart of thorns.

If you buy a Heart of Thorns Serial Key, you have a choice:

Start a new account and get Core Tyria (GW2) and Heart of Thorns expansion, with no progress from your original account applied.

Upgrade your original account, keeping all progress gained in the last 3 years (or however much time you have played), and gaining access to Heart of Thorns.

Your choice, but either way, you pay for the Heart of Thorns Serial Key.
