Title says it all. LOL

I’m hoping that we finally see some improvements/signs of healing in Orr, after all this time.

If they update Orr they can only do that by adding new events, new dungeon(s) and generally new meaningful content that reflect those changes. If that was the case they would have anounced it as a major feature, which they didn’t. So…no, I don’t think we will see an update. At least not when HoT goes live.

Besides, it would draw attention away from the Maguuma Jungle and judging from their announcment last saturday everything pve-related in HoT concerns the jungle. They clearly want us to go into the jungle and not back to orr.

They have a lot of things on their plate. I doubt we’ll see any changes to Orr anytime soon. It would be cool though, to see a living story there with Trahearne’s involvement.

It really depends on how many quality of life changes the expansion will have, and how thorough they will be with them. Orr can get plenty updated simply through quality of life fixes, without having to be a major expansion feature, I just have no idea if that’s on the table.

If they update Orr, what happens to all the new people who get there in their personal story and it’s no longer controlled by risen, but healed? It would ruin their personal story.

‘Cuz they totally did that with LA? It didn’t hurt personal stories at all. They can alter the chipset without touching the enemies.

Yes, they did that with LA and it did hurt the personal story. It’s just weird to see Tybalt standing in a ruined marked square selling apples like nothing happened.

I mean seriously, the last chapters of the personal story is all about invading a land that is littered with undead. They can’t change that without altering the personal story and I doubt they will.

They could create an intance for players who have already completed their storylines to see the Orr finally cleansed.
They will keep the same map for us all and for those who havent finish their stories yet... Orr could be a new main town or something where everything is beautiful, god-like for Arah and stuff like that..

I am strongly against an idea like this : It will cleave the player base and force you to complete the entire personnal story if you want to access the cool stuff. Are you suggesting that I have to witness Trahearne’s blandness 6 times instead of 2 ?

If they wanted to update orr, I think they’d use a system like in the silverwastes. Basically, introduce a new currency that is gained by helping the pact do something (like escorting the troops through malchor’s leap and holding the checkpoints). As you complete events a bar fills up. When it is filled up, the temples can be captured. After the temple events, the map goes in a “quiet state” where statues are disabled and chests are accessible. After some times, everything starts over.

The currency can be exchanged for crafting mat bags and keys to open orrian chests.

In the end, updating orr will be done through living world releases instead of HoT.

You think that all those NPC’s saying that LA will never be attacked, while standing in the piles of debris, don’t ruin personal story already?

Yes, they do need to do something about it, but on the other hand we’ve already seen that it is not considered big enough problem to stop those changes from happening.
And, of course, Orr storyline is already broken and makes no sense.

Actions, not words.

The only way they could do that is by adding a new Orrian zone, only accessable through HoT, to ensure chatracters that haven’t killed Zhaitan yet can’t wander in there and break their precious immersion.

if any updates to Orr occur it will only happen through the living World, HoT is all about our journey through Maguuma.

Having said that, its only been 2 years ingame time since the death of Zaitan. It will take a while for there to be visible signs of healing.

Orr can never change, unless they remove the personal story and replace it. Which would deprive new players of content and background info on the elder dragons, the pact, Destiny’s Edge, etc.
At that you always have the cover story that Orr is still being ran by some lieutenant of Zaitan after you slayed the dragon.

This is a point that Anet keeps bringing which is how hard it can get to make the world progress, but allow new players to feel that progress as well, from the beggining.

For you it’s been 2 years. For new players it hasn’t happened yet. Orr should be left alone so that new players can go in and see it the way it’s supposed to be for them.

Soon enough the level 80s who are done with the old maps will be in the new expansion playing. At that point, does anyone think they will really care if Orr is cleansed or not?

There isn’t any reason new Maps in Orr cannot be opened up. As we get further into Maguuma, we seem to be coming across more and more lines of story that connect back to Orr.

Actually, you have that backwards. The Devs have stated that the PS takes place in the PAST. There’s no legitimate reason that people that buy HoT cannot have an update Orr (or any other place in the world). It wouldn’t be any different than Pre and Post-Searing in GW1. If you don’t want to do the main game, you don’t see the new stuff. Pretty simple.

That kinda sucks. The world should update along with the expansion.

That would be a nice feature, It doesn’t have to be all of Orr otherwise the personal story wouldn’t make much sense but maybe some areas on the borders could be cleansed without interfering to much.

That’s actually what I was thinking. Start showing the outer parts of Malchor’s Leap and stuff growing grass and trees. Not really saying events should change or leave.

Although, there’s really no reason not to leave non-HoT maps the way they are and just send PS people to that version of the map for their story, while having the HoT version showing signs of healing.

It’s still work to put in a redo of Orr with new mobs, events etc. Right now all their resources are going to the expansion. Why should they divert Dev time from that to rework Orr or to rework it after the expansion (when, I bet, none of you will care anyway because you will be in the new zones).

Are you trying to say that y’all will be hanging out in Orr after the expansion comes out?

It’s still extra work. Devs will have to be diverted from the the expansion. And again, are you trying to say that y’all will be hanging out in Orr after the expansion comes out? If not, why should they do that extra work for you when the new people would undoubtably prefer it to match their personal story.

That’s an asinine question, but I’ll answer you anyway. I still play ALL OVER Tyria, despite the new areas that have been added. It also doesn’t seem to take them a lot of effort to reskin places like HotM or the WvW maps for holiday events, so I doubt something like changing dirt to grass or coral to shrubs and trees is going to be that hard for them.

I already addressed the difference between the PS and an updated version of Orr. I see you ignored that too. Feel free to keep making pointless comments though.

You might still play all over the world but the likelihood is that the population in Orr will drop dramatically after the expansion is released. It does take Dev time (which will have to be diverted from the expansion now) to change Orr. It’s a matter of a benefit to a few people that want it (and not everyone does or there would be more than just the handful posting here) verses the cost.

Well, as I’ve suggested before, there’s that whole other half of Orr, just sitting there taking up map space, that could be used for ‘cleansed’ Orr stuff, accessible upon reaching level 80 (just like LS2, which one could play regardless of PS status).

The table is a fable.

I can see what you’re saying, but Orr was “healed” by magic and not just from rising out of the sea and natural growth. As I told someone earlier, I think it would make sense to start showing bits of growth (like grass and a few trees/bushes) closer to the outskirts of Orr. Places like Straits of Devastation, that are closer to “normal” areas like Fort Trinity. Possible some of the shoreline for Malchor’s Leap. I don’t feel there should be cities or major event changes yet.

I especially think this would make sense, because Anet is pretty vocal about wanting a living world, that constantly changes as you stay with the game. What better way to show that, than to show the repercussions of actions and events that were supposed to have occurred in the game years ago?
