Don't reduce our choices of traits! Please!

Everything I’ve heard so far about the upcoming expansion made me even more excited about it and I am really looking forward to lay my hands on it.
But when I read that you would reduce the number of potential traits and trait choices down to 1 out of 3 per rank/stage I couldn’t believe what I read.
Separating traits from attributes is a great idea, but limiting players choices concerning variation as much, it will likely kill the game for me.
Guild Wars is one of the few (and perhaps the best) online games that makes trait testing, trying out new builds and ending up on a somewhat competitive level without using the META builds possible.
By reducing the number of traits and trait choices you will stop seeing anything that is NOT meta in PvP, WvW and PvE.
As by the great choices of traits that you currently offer I can make my character more unique than I could if you reduced the number of traits per rank/stage.
Even if somehow those traits should become available via other skills, you will still see ALOT less variation of builds than you currently have and no one will be able to try and step out of the META, because of the few choices remaining.
Here’s the link to the interview I am referring to.
Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

Man, do you seriously have used any possible combination? I don’t think so. Also most of them where not really viable and you always end up using the same 20-30 combination at best. So they are apparently removing options but you where not using those option anyway so what’s the problem? Also they are merging/removing/balancing all the traits and giving you a system that will allow creation of good and balanced builds for you while being easy to maintain, balance and expand for them.
Total win in my book.
I mean is possible that there will be no meta since so many build could be viable ay once!
There are less options now, but more viable options.
I would rather have all the possible builds be viable, rather than only half of them be viable, with the rest being shrugged off as “joke builds” or something along those lines.
With the old (current) system your trait lines could be 4/4/4/2/0 with traits chosen from 36 different chosen traits (10/10/10/0/6).
With the new (future) system you get to choose three (3) trait lines from six combinations, two lines if you want to get the new specialization. Each line gives you 9 traits from which to choose from, for a total of 27 different traits. But you only have three choices per trait tier, unlike in the old system you could put lower tier traits on high spots.
The new system seems to be another “make it easier for players, who we know to be dumb morons” upgrade.
Sure it makes the choices easier, but it also removes hundreds of possible combinations and forces each to take the grandmaster traits and limits us to three lines only.

While I agree it’s one of those upgrades to make it easier for people (and seems to be one of those updates again). There always have been two sides of a build. The execution of a build is still the more decisive factor. You can see that simply by how many actual combinations are used with success.

It could go well or it will go the April 15 feature patch where most traits weren’t used because they sucked or others were better.

I do not agree with OP or anyone who opposes Anet stance on this. While they might have dumbed down for the time being our choices to build diversity in terms of trait. 1 you are getting traits that actually make sense and builds that can be called something (Specialized in Fire, Air and Water in the case of an elementalist). I know people like to spend points like Alerno said 4-4-4-2 but really what sense does that build even make? half of those choices were just to get all stats related to the trait and a build that is without a single GM trait is absurd. However, it is not my place to judge it in anyway but you have to look at the bigger picture. Anet said they are laying the foundation for the direction they want to take on build diversification. Atm the choices seem limited in terms of build diversification (It is still much more empowering than the old system as one trait gives two effects in the new system and being able to choose 3 grand master traits) but with more elite specs churning out later I dont see diversity having a problem in anyway. lets suppose with the old system intact and new elite specs joining us after the release of hot, imagine the horrors of build diversity when people will spend points in all core specializations + elite specs of 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2. Do you want noobs running building like that and calling it freedom of choice/build diversity. They will hurt WvW and they will definitely hurt PvP a lot. PvE as long as you dont die it does not matter and in dungeons you can vote kick people. Its just on HoT release that we will get 1 extra specialization each class (which is a lot to play around with and overhaul the meta of this game). Just stop whining and see what comes next to keep us hooked.

Actually i think is a good change in how we make the builds. Not better than the actual system but a good one.
Most classes has their build done with at most 3 choices of traits, so for most nothing will change.
And for the few that uses ele with 2 points in every trait i guess they will have to learn a different way to play. Think it as a change of pace that’s is affecting every class in the game and i thinks that’s good because changes are good. Not better but good.

Others will always be better…there will always be meta.

Not really worried about meta, but rather limited builds due to useless traits.
