Guild Wars 2

Can someone enlighten me about what happens when I get experience in HoT maps while having all masteries unlocked? (I assume the same happens in old Tyria, but I am still working on those masteries so I can’t tell)

I see the occasional spirit shard pop up in the loot list, but I can’t find a way to track my progress towards the next shard. Do we still get spirit shards through experience?
The mastery bar is grey and clicking on it only opens up the mastery menu, there is no progress.

Also, is this explained somewhere and I missed it or simply something players figured out by themselves?

No spiritshards anymore…sadly. Just enjoy the game and ignore the XP gains. New masteries are planned to be released.

Yeah, and all those potions and food items and boosters that give XP? That part of them is worthless.

However, some day they may give more masteries. If they do, I sure hope they kept track of all the experience I earned between the last mastery and when they get the new ones emplaced. Masteries are bad enough with their monstrous requirements; to completely discard XP while we wait for them to add new ones would be a huge insult.

They won’t keep track of your XP. The new masteries will be added with new raid wings, LW3 and future expansions. Don’t expect all of them will be a large grind. For example the ones for raid wing recquire you to play through one DS meta and you get them done.

Guild Wars 1 wasn’t an MMO. Guild Wars 2 is the same MMO and the question was name another MMO.

It’s easy to say wrong, but that doesn’t make a statement wrong.

That said I believe Anet needs to add something to allow people to continue progressing after they max out their mastery, even if it’s a repeatable mastery track they can select for a spirit shard.

It really doesn’t matter what other games could be named because this is not those other games. Also, this game has also been promoted as not being like other mmo’s… so another reason to use itself as the comparison. For 3+ years, Guild Wars 2 had rewards for over-leveling… now it’s gone.

I actually made the same argument in the main GW2 discussions a while back, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears.

play wvw or spvp, they don’t give any mastery points – they got totally dissed with hot, so you wont miss anything.

I have the exact opposite problem, i hate the idea that i have to become ocd about playing against artificial intelligence to get some mastery points to spend. That’s not gaming, that’s programming, no mind control for me thanks!
