Dragon's Stand: Client crash or disconnect
I want to bump this one.
We tried Dragon’s stand map for 4 hours. And just when the boss is about to fall the client crashed. If you make such a long meta map then at least back up every player from DC. Let them have the tier they worked for. Let them get back to the map where they DCed from. When I fought that endboss, all I thought was, pls don’t crash. It did, so my reward was 0 for all this time.
I have a pretty good computer too, and the graphics is set to absolut minimum. But it still crashed. Pls FIX YOUR GAME.
This DC/crash issue is HUGE and RUINS the experience.
They really need to but in a 2-5 minute grace period for players who get kicked by crashes and or d/cs. This issue has been annoying me since mega server was first introduced. I can’t get any events done b/c when I inevitably crash, relog, and then when I come back I get placed in a dead instance and not the original one I was in…thus all progression lost; this is happening on a regular basis now.

bump. Very annoying problem. Don’t even feel like attemping last map meta event because of this

Bump, this happened to me earlier, extremely frustrating. Glad I wasn’t far into the map. I recall this being a problem with Tequatl too, so I doubt it’s something they are able to address. I read somewhere that it’s an issue with the game not being able to allocate memory passed a certain point regardless of how much RAM you actually have. In any case, a rejoin feature seems like the best we could hope for, but again, this has been floated around since Tequatl and never been implemented, so it’s likely that ANet have no actual way of keeping a player’s progress and keeping a slot open for them in a public instance.
maybe try this if you people have good enough computers

64b or not, make a 2h+ event and dont provide something to ppl who got a crash to join back is just not possible !
I just got a crash (never got crash before HoT) at the very end of DS event, and i’m really REALLY upset (to not say kittened)
THIS
Just happened to me 2 times in a row. Client crashes, try to rejoin, and nothing.
About 3 hours of my day just wasted because the map is full even tho i was just in it 2 seconds ago.
On the 64 bit game client just crashed AGAIN after the 30 minute meta event in AB. Hours of time wasted with absolute no rewards, i’m done with meta events until you either fix the client crashes or fix the reward system.
This has now happend for me for the 5th time. EXACTLY when the mouth of mord. dies and the end dragon stand cinematic is about to happen, I crash.
And when i log back in, i get thrown into an empty map along with others who also crashed, so we sit there 15-20 people and feel SUPER kittened that we all wasted like 1½-2 hours of our lives only to DC AFTER the kitten boss is dead…
This is why i wont spend a single penny on this game. ArenaNet doesnt deserve it. These mega-server issues are unacceptable when so much of the core experience in the game comes from big (and long) events.
bump. 64 bit client or 32 it doesn’t matter. OP is exactly right. If you’re going to have very long events you better be able to get back in them if the client crashes. Even joining a squad or party doesn’t always work to rejoin b/c the map will still get full.
Had it happen to me a few times. If I cared enough to do it more I would be raging hard or quit for a while. Luckily I don’t care to much and do other things. But there definitely is no excuse.
Same here, if they know they shipped a defective product, hence the 64 bit client, they should at least default you to top tier reward when you log back in after the crash, and not get the kittentiest reward tier as i have received for a 3rd time..

A week ago I was on a DS map from beginning to finish only to click on the end merchant to purchase the recipe I wanted and BAM! disconnected lol. Of course at that point you can get back in since its a completed map so I had to redo the entire event one more time to make the purchase
For sure you should always be able to get back on the map, with full participation, after crash or internet disconnect. The server should remember you for 10 mins plus and either reserve a spot for you or allow the map to go over it’s base limit.
On the other hand, I have not had one single crash (a handful of disconnects, but that’s a different issue and not Anet’s fault) since moving to the 64-bit client. If you have a fair amount of ram (at least 8GB, ideally 16 GB or more) I would definitely try it.

This has happened to six times out of the last ten times I tried.
It´s infuriating because it always happens right before the final boss is down.
The only way i’ve managed to counter this is to make sure i’m in a squad or group when doing the event. That way you have a chance to teleport to a squad/group member when coming back in. If it’s a popular event the map might be full, but keep trying and ’hope" someone else leaves/crashes to get their spot.
I had lots of crashing issues with the 32Bit client …..switched to 64bit …..NEVER HAD A CRASH again
I think OPs idea is great, not only for crashes, but with so many maps open now and taxis everywhere, the maps seem to be closing constantly and my progress gets lost each time.
I’d love to see some type of system to hold our progress while on a specific map.
I’ve had three crashes so far. Two at the end of the dragon fight around the cutscene (which booted me out of the instance and could not get back in) and once while going for HP and pods….
There are issues and I think what could be done is this… Right after you kill the dragon we should be pulled from the instance back to the zone map and have the remaining map zone timer to search for pods, get HP, fight mobs…. Maybe they could add in some extra events….
Thoughts?
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
I have the same issue in Auric Basin and it makes me super sad. I come back and not have lost all my map participation but I also go from a map on the cusp of beating the event to one which hasn’t even started
Every time I’ve managed to be on a map that completes the meta event I’ve gotten DC. I’m using the 64 bit client. It’s so bad I’ve just stopped wasting time on it.
It’s a shame how many things in this “expansion” aren’t accessible to players.

Any of the new metas need to be looked at in this regard. I finally had enough time to be on the game in one sitting and try to get the Verdant Brink one done at Tier 4 for day and night, as I heard this was the only way to get the Bladed Coat Box. I wasn’t commanding but I was giving instructions to the map to make sure rally points were defended, upgraded and so on. We got 3 of the 5 bosses down and were well on course to hitting Tier 4 night.. and of course, I got DCed. Checked my internet browser instantly, no internet problems at all. Rejoined the game ASAP to find I was on a completely different instance of the map with 0% participation and half way through Tier 1. I don’t have the motivation, let alone the time, to try that again any time soon. It felt like I had just wasted a couple of hours of my life, a feeling I’ve never really got with this game before. This needs some kind of fix as possible.

kitten , I was hopeful switching to the 64 bit client would fix this

To be fair, I don’t mind the crash.
No, you should never be content with, nor settle for something like this. It’s an extremely aggravating problem that needs to be addressed. I’m honestly stunned as to how this has gone on for so long now, especially since it can block progress for a lot of collections and map completion.
BTW it doesn’t matter if you’re using the 64-bit client. The game kicks you to the character select screen, it doesn’t crash all the way to the desktop.
Very frustrated that there’s no word on this…

I had turned my textures up to high and crashed in DS for the first time in months. Back at medium and I had no problems until noxious pod farming when my lag went off the chart, but I think that was a different issue I had not experienced before.
If you want the Open World to support 2 hours long events, this basic mechanism needs to be there.
Quoted for truth. The logic is simple.
A:Hey lets do cool 2h map events that requires full map to join.
B:Cool, what if people get DC or crash.
A: They are screwed but events stay cool.

I still have crashes at the end of dragon stand just when the final boss is killed. Now already 5 times in a row.
It is very annoying that you can’t go back to the instance you were in after the crash.
Furthermore this issue is there already for months it in now time to solve it.

Just a few ideas for everyone who is consistently crashing:
64-bit client?
Turn graphics to “Best performance”?
Some other factor?
- Poor internet connection/settings
- Poor wi-fi/ethernet connection/settings
- Overheating/failing/faulty hardware (CPU, GPU, RAM, MB, power supply)
- Corrupted game files
- Outdated/buggy drivers
- Software conflicts
- Rats in your computer https://www.pinterest.com/pin/84442561736593349/
Not everyone is crashing to that degree, so I think factors other than Anet’s client and servers need to be ruled out.
I do agree Anet needs some way to allow crashed players to return to map and retain participation.

So, I’ve actually had regular issues with Dragon’s Stand. Typically during the final fight against the Mouth of Mordremoth, the client would crash, and I’d log in and everything would be fine. I would also be the only person in my group with this issue, which was between 3 and 8 other people.
That wasn’t the case today, less than an hour ago now.
I crashed twice during the meta, and had my client completely freeze up right at the very end of the final fight. Of the three other people in my group, all of them crashed at least once, and some multiple times. One in particular crashed and was then unable to rejoin the instance for 10 minutes, got frustrated and left. These people aren’t exactly running on bargain machines, from my understanding. After my client froze, I had to kill the task and log back in—but when I did, the client wouldn’t let me join in my original instance with my party because my internet connection was down—which was blatantly false.
These crashing issues have been occurring more frequently since a recent patch, and they’ve been affecting several people that I regularly party with. It’s a bit upsetting, and I’d really like to see some sort of fix implemented…ideally, to address both the frequency of crashes as well as a sort of disconnect-forgiveness mechanic that several others have described in this thread. As it is, I do not believe I will be returning to Dragon’s Stand until there is some work done on the stability, which is a shame since it can be a fairly interesting area.

I do not think crashes are just happening only in HOT. I have crashed repeatly in boss battles in Old Tyria. Usually happens with two to three minutes left in the fight after I have already gained my credit. I have submitted crash reports but I also have gone back into settings and last night I changed my high settings/ultra settings back to “autodetect” which did lower the resolution just slightly and took some settings off “ultra.” I have not crashed since that time after three more boss battles in different areas. I am running 64 bit client and I have a $4000 system with a very high end card with lots of VRAM and a water cooling system. It should easily run at “ultra” and it did before the 64 bit client but now it just crashes in these full map fights. Just try to reduce resolution or go “auto-detect” until Anet can fix their client.

This is exactly the same experience I have … Giant meta-events are fun and epic but at the same time I can’t help but feel almost more worried about disconnecting than that I’m enjoying the event itself.
The Karka final livingworld event in the past (got reward afterwards => ty Anet ), WVW battles, Defence of Tarir, Dragon’s stand meta event … all disconnected on me more than once … resulting in a waist of a lot of time and effort for no reward.
It’s good that one can get back to a map if you were in a party or squad before the disconnection but … more than often the map is full so you can’t join anyway.
Fix: reserve X extra playerslots above the official map capacity for players who were on that map but left it through disconnection. E.g. you have X min priority to get back to the map you were on after a DC and reconnecting.
After disconnecting from dragon’s stand with my ranger for at least 3 times in a row netting about 8 hours wasted time (waiting for commanders, enough players, successful runs,…) I guess for now I’m just going to do something else and ignore my compulsion to get the final 2 pets for my collection …

Yes, 100% agree. Just had an issue where the server got a huge lag spike, and every single person on the map was experiencing skill lag of 10+ seconds. Needless to say, almost everyone wiped and we lost the event as soon as the vine growths spawned. I guarantee that we would’ve beaten Mordremoth in 10 minutes had this not happened.
Losing an event like this after spending over an hour to complete it is unacceptable. I am extremely frustrated right now.
I am asking Anet to reimburse everyone on the map for the 20 crystalline ore and other loot that we lost out on. It happened at 3:45 pm EST (8:45 pm UTC).

Just happened to me, CTD right before MoM died. Third time this week.
I give up, time to play something else.
Just had the crash after defeating MoM and wasnt able to pick up the chest.. Reconnected to a dead server with no chest.. the squad was still there but couldnt join back in theyr instance.. lost 2 hours for this and no compensation was granted.. iam really frustrated, not fun in playing a game where you grind like a sick person and then dont get anything back
And yes Guild wars 2 is a grind fest

That happened about 3-4 times for me. I don’t even do the meta there for the meta, I just get my hero points on characters and that’s it.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Crashed again today for the 3rd time in 4 MoM. Luckily i was able to rejoin the same map this time, wasn’t so lucky last 3 times… Put all my settings to medium/low and all the other bull sheet recommendations made… My PC is 2months old and pretty much top of the line so it can handle everything on high/highest settings with no lag. Are they suppose to fix this soon? Makes me want to quit the game.

This definitely needs to be addressed. Never crashed before and now twice at the very of Dragon Stand trying to get items for achievements.
