Dragon's Stand map dead
Maybe EU has an issue, I don’t know as I am NA. But the obvious question arises: Are you using LFG 5 to 10 minutes before the map cycle begins to join a taxi squad? If there are no LFG listings are you chatting with other folks at the entry wp in the 10 mins or so before the cycle to get a taxi squad formed up?
Those are the methods I use (generally in the afternoon to evening eastern time) and I have never ended up in an empty map doing so unless I waited to the last minute and missed the chance to join a taxi. Even then the taxi squad usually breaks up and heads for various lanes to start the escort events while posting in LFG for more players, but that will fill up in seconds.
EU runs regularly – a couple of weeks ago I was running it once or twice a weeknight.
But it wont run unless you get in a reset or taxi in. I would say DS runs more than a proper VBT4 or even TD. The issue is unlike other maps, you are unlikely just to walk into an active map, which is somewhat of a major design flaw.
If you enter a map 20mins or more into the cycle, you will almost never see it running.
Use /wiki event timer in game to see when the reset hits for the map.
Yeah, I thought the megaserver would send me to a crowded map, like it usually does with other maps, and it’s no problem to just join the meta at any point, but then I suppose all of the taxiing is filling maps right at the beginning of the meta so I always end up in an empty map when I try to do it spontaneously.
That kills most of what I like about gw2: spontaneity. You zone in and stuff is happening and one thing leads to another and if it’s not organized you can just tag up and get kitten done and it just works (usually), but I guess I’ll just start using lfg instead. Not as much fun but at least I get to play the kitten map. xD
EU runs it all the time. You have ~10 minutes window after the map reset to find a squad and join the active map. If you miss this window you will have to wait for 2 hours to try again.
Shall do, thanks all, glad to know it’s not dead I suppose I’ve gotten too casual about gw2 i totally stopped using lfg xD
There are reports of the megaserver system not working as desired in maps like these and changes are coming long term to help address such things.
The scope and detail however are unknown, but we can but hope it helps here. Or that maps are less focussed on full metas going forward.
Sadly, Megaserver still doesn’t do theone thing it’s supposed to do and corral players in to a small number of highly populated maps.
Now that LFG supports squads, taxiing in to maps is easier than ever. I know in NA people are very good about listing their taxis under the appropriate zone heading. When you’re going to a map with a big meta chain or world boss, always check the LFG first until Anet gets the megaserver sorted out.

Why no one ever runs these events? I mean NEVER, not even sunday nights. At least on EU servers. What’s up with that? There are always people running events on the other HoT maps, why not DS?
Is it because there’s extra coordination required? Lacking rewards? Boring map? Too hard?
I could only do one lane of this map ONCE, when HoT launched and never again. Always, always dead.
For it to work for me I have to get into a server prior to it resetting. People sit there and wait, then die, then start. Then in short order on reset the instance will be full. If you wait until after it starts, you are thrown into a near empty one as the main is full. I’m not sure that is correct, but get in prior to reset and I all I know is I play with a full server then. It could be smoother for sure.

those timers might help you
I’ve finished the map again a while ago. I feel stupid now. lol It was such an easy thing to do. The trouble is exactly the opposite: The map fills very fast and it’s hard to get a taxi spot lol
Still I get the feeling the server isn’t really filling any maps but is instead spreading a few people accross multiple maps. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Thanks everyone!
since the spring patch (with DS as selectable option in LFG tool) i don’t get into an active instance anymore. i only see squads (x/10 or higher) advertise in LFG and when i join i end up in another instance of DS than the majority of the squad.
even 1 minute after restart i couldn’t get into a playable (populated enough) instance through LFG tool yet (tried it 5 or 6 times and gave up on it afterwards).
i am on the EU servers and before the patch i usually had no problem to get into a populated instance of DS from LFG group invites (x/5).

Megaservers since HoT launch have been broken in HoT maps, anet doesn’t seem to have any desire to fix it. Gotta use the LFG to get into maps with players.

You need to get earlier, like 5-10 minutes before the reset (have people that camps for 30 minutes on DS to make sure to get into a good map lol). DS fills up really fast, usually a map is full before the reset here on NA servers.

While I agree that the megaserver on HoT maps tends to troll people principally when give the option to change maps if it is too low populated, sometimes is a issue caused by the players: is common on VB and TD you get ported into a map with zero progress that have lots of people AFK/doing anything else, like HPs.

This is probably a stupid question but I have to ask: after restart when you find yourself in a different map from the majority of the squad, do you use the ‘Join in DS’ option to hop over to their map?

There hasn’t been any spontaneity in GW2 for years. It plays like a bus schedule. Next scheduled stop: Fire Elemental.

If you look at timers and do world bosses. I have always played Guild Wars 2 as a spontaneous game, even in HOT. IT’s a choice. I don’t need to find a meta to enjoy myself in the open world.
It’s definitely not dead. I run it all the time! I’ve done all 3 lanes at least a couple of times each in the last few weeks. To be honest I just go stand at the opening waypoint when it’s due to start and usually the map fills up. Maybe there is only one busy instance at a time but that’s fine with me.

There’s definitely more than one full instance, because sometimes my instance fills and guildies who try to get in end up in another instance which also fills up.

If you like more than the generic event chain, and need to do a boss for some achievement, then at some point you will need to look at the schedule. You can avoid it and not do any of things tied to all the worldbosses, ofcourse.
There’s very little larger event chains that end up in a boss fight that is not tied to said boss train. Which is a shame, no matter how much other content there is to distract you from it.

Except that mostly I did avoid it. Because I didn’t play it in a goal oriented manner. I just enjoyed myself and ended up getting quite a lot of stuff just by watching map chat.
This is happening now, oh I should get over there. I didn’t look at timers. I still got lots of stuff done.
It takes me longer. I just don’t care.
I meant “you” as in the hypothetical player that fits that if-condition.
I thought that was obvious. :/

I seem to only find one at reset or around reset. Otherwise, as you said it is dead 90% of the time. for one the first portion of the meta is interesting but it takes a massive time chunk to even attempt to complete it. Second stage is mind numbing and boring. Boss fight has some cool cutscenes but not that great either. Kinda a nice way to wind down, fly around and dodge some simple stuff whack at a flying worm and get some loot.
I’m sure that full maps and dc’s have turned a lot of people off. Several times 30,45 minutes plus into the battle I myself have lost connection and my spot was eaten up by another player. I have seen it happen to my guild members and friends. Its a huge turnoff.
After gearing and masteries what reason do you have to go to DS really?
As stated the meta is to long and the rewards in my eyes aren’t worth it.
Lets fight for an hour plus then go whack some pods for 15min for subpar loot. No thanks I say, and obviously, others must/could feel the same.
Same issue happens in TD though. Although no as brutal time wise I find it even harder to find a meta there and just quit going.

I almost never do it at reset, because I’m usually not playing by then since I live in Australia and it’s 10 am. I play a lot more in the afternoon and evenings and I can assure you it’s far from dead.
Timer and taxi.
Seems like the only way.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
