Honestly, I did not see that one coming. I generally like the concept, but isn’t “Dragon Hunter” a tad over-specified?

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Half expected with the community talking about refrains and the whole longbow thing they may taken a page from ARR and went with Bards, but didn’t think a play on Dragoons would be in the mix. >_>

Anyway… Just glanced at the video, but currently, I’m not really feeling it. Didn’t seem really ‘Dragon Huntery’ to me.

Then again, half the Chronomancer abilities seemed more like “Effects and stuff because time.” than actual time-centric abilities, so I guess I should temper my expectations.

Gone for good after Halloween 2Ø12.

I think the new virtues sound pretty good. A bit unsure of the longbow with the limited information. But that name, I don’t really find it fitting at all.

The same goes for traps. They would be a more fitting addition to warriors than guardians. Along with the Dragonhunter name.

Lets turn one of the premier melee classes into back line support with traps?

That is what I am seeing so far, and if that is the case and the traits are all supporty then I will stick with my old trait lines and play melee.

Leave it to Karl… on second thought, please don’t leave it to Karl anymore, anet. Please?

I’m actually really excited about it. It gives Guardians a very different way to be effective and I can already see a lot of useful situations in WvW and sPvP where these abilities will be pretty awesome.

The traps aspect sounds interesting though, will have to wait and see how they actually function in game though (since they are supposed to be revamping traps).

Yeah, not a fan of the name either. Not really a fan of the guards elite spec as a whole either. I like the thought of the bow and the changes to the virtues, but absolutely hate traps. Unless they’re aoe targeted, whats the point of giving guards traps when you give the guard a long range weapon? In single fights, yeah, you set traps and make the mob run over it, but in a large/boss battle, they’re on opposite sides (point blank vs long range).

This just doesn’t seem as overpowered as the mesmer one is/will be. This actually makes me not really excited about the rest. Seems like they started with their ‘coolest’ one and are working down. Dragonhunter just seems to lack that bang/coolness that the Chronomancer had (and I don’t even like playing mesmer).

Because surely they meant to say something Paragon-ish instead.
Right?

We needed better ranged weaponry, great but making us back line like that?

Elmer Fudd now becomes Dohvakin, great.
I know my initial reaction seems negative, but I guess I’ll wait for them to release more before I really take action.

Not that I dislike the name or the skills and toys the DH gets, but it does seem a large step away from what the guardian is. Not that that is a bad thing, just unexpected. Rather curious as to what they have in store for warrior now.

I really like the changes to virtues, and I also like that they get traps. It doesn’t quite sound as impressive as the Chronomancer, but it sounds interesting and it sounds like it might be fun to play. Looking forward to more info on the ready up.

I actually like the Dragon Hunter (even if, for once, his name is cooler in French than in English). It is actually what an Elite specialisation is about : a whole new way to play a class. If you want to play a melee guardian, you’ll get the new “normal” attributes, and it seems to be better (with more synergies between the branches) so its fine, but the DH basically bring support to a whole new level (there is a reason for why one of his skills destroys enemies arrows, I’m certain).

I agree with those who think that the DH isn’t as flashy as the Chronomancer, but it was a given : the magical classes will have flashier and more impressive looking specializations, but what I care is less the flash and more the bang. And the DH is definitely the equal of the Chronomancer here. Both seems to require a lot of hard work to reach their full potential and their peak is achieved through a timely work with other characters.

TdlR: I am confused about the recent names we got for classes and spezialisations. They feel out of place if we look at the others which are already ingame.

Now today the guardian specialization has been revealed.
It is called the Dragonhunter.
And I don`t like it that much. It has the same problem as the Revenant.
Please hear me out.

(Disclaimer, I am aware of the fact that classnames can also be easily used as titles or nicknames. I am more going for the feel the names envoke in me)

The Revenant
The whole thing started actually already with the Reveant. A cool name, but if you look at any other class ingame you have no idea what he is supposed to be.

An elementalist uses Elements, an Ingeneer uses machinery, a Warrior fights, a guardian protects and a Mesmer meszemerizes.

The Revenant was the first class who I find confusing. The name sounds more like a Title then a class description. He sounds like something which is undead, but we allready have the necromancer for that.
In terms of the games lore he is a Mistuser, Mistbender or even a Mistshaper (I don`t know what to name them either, to be honest).
The problem with this class is that it is bound to the lore, so it is hard to get a fitting name. However Revenant, aside from Rytlocks involement makes no sense. This is further helped by the fact that they ignore the timeline for these new classes.

The Dragonhunter
Here we have a specilization which again, sounds more like a title then a class.
It also goes against the established names we had so far.
A dragonhunter is very specific. It goes against dragons. Other classes however are covering a wide field.
While specilizations are known to narrow these fields down, they stay in certain direction. How do we get from holy warrior who protects his allies and brings down the holy flame to Dragonhunter?
How does this specialization fit into the lore? The World?
Are there other Dragonhunters out there? Aren’`the Vigil allready Dragon Hunters? Isn`t the Pacts whole purpose to hunt and fight these dragons?
Tyria is not well known to have a lot of Dragons anyway. Aside from the ones under the Eldar Dragons, there are not many wild ones. So how do they hone their skills? How are they different from members of the pact? How are they bestowed the title of Dragonhunter?

Looking at the specialization it doesn`t even scream anything dragon. Aside from the equipment, he is a trapper light shooting heavy class, with Angel Wings. Go call him Seraphim or something.

Tempest
Tempest for the elementalist is again a very confusing name. It sounds like a title or a skill.
Does it mean It is focused on weathermagic? Now I know we don`t know much about it, so I cannot judge it, but for me it allready sounds like a dangerous name.

Good example: Druid
The Druid is fine. He is rooted in the lore, explained and from what we know allready (which isn`t much) he is fitting with the usual image we have from a druid. Simple and effective.

Good example 2: Chronomancer
Even if you don`t know about GW Utopia, you might know about the connection to time in it`s name. This class uses time. This class has the motive written all over it in it`s design. I love it.

I don’t think there’s anyone out there that is “hyped” for this specialization after that yawn-inducing trailer and this extremely-generic name. What does this spec have for its’ unique spec stuff?

SPEAR of Justice
WINGS of Resolve
SHIELD of Courage

I mean, if you’re going to slap us in the face with the worst-sounding new skills for Guardian (Traps? Seriously?), at least give Guardians the name most of us were hoping for. You were clearly teasing it by showing us THE WINGS before anything else.

My hype level has gone from Maximum Overdrive to I Don’t Even Want To Log In.

Revenant felt strange to me, but at least it had some consistancy and a real background in this world, which can explain why they would choose this name. Revenant has to be considered as a Tyrian word that has this specific sense only in this world.

But Dragonhunter is bad in every aspects. The fact that it “goes against the established names we had so far” is something that I feared a lot considering spec names. But they did even worse, EVERYTHING is wrong with this name. It just sounds absurd…

And Tempest seems quite bad too, although I could consider it the same way I consider the Revenant.
