Yeah, we sooo do. In fact, we don’t have a name or title, or any form of flair. We have a Job Description…

I don’t mind the name, but thematically it doesn’t really seem to be carried throughout the entire spec all that well. For instance, the word “Hunter” is mentioned multiple times, but there’s nothing in the traits that has a strong connection to dragons of any sort or really to fighting champions/bosses). And while I realize there was substantial complaining before the spec was fully revealed, I think it might have been curtailed by the reveal had the theme been more evident (in name and function).

I just call it DH.

To be honest, I don’t care if it’s called Carlos as long as it’s not the abomination it is right now. It needs a serious review from the devs.

Since the vast majority of the community doesn’t like this name, and the initial name for this spec was supposed to be Avenger, why don’t we boycott “Dragonhunter” and just call it “Avenger” between us?

Once upon a thread, people made the claim that this e-spec should not be called the ‘Avenger’ due to possible confusion with the Avengers. Now ArenaNet has released the ‘Daredevil’ e-spec hot behind the heels of the Daredevil Netflix series. Lolz. I guess the ‘Avenger’ is a viable name after all.

It was a speculation tied into a conspiracy theory joke on my part, but yes, I would sign for Avenger too. It’s a nice name that can easily be applied to a more offensive-minded Guardian. Dragonhunter already smells like the shoehorning of the Braham-Eir story into the profession system, so why not call it something that could be literally applied to all Guardian characters, if said story will probably be about Braham avenging his mother? (Again, speculation on my part, but that concept art showing Braham with Eir’s bow is pretty obvious to me.) Thousands of soldiers died when Mordremoth wiped the Pact fleet, tens, and perhaps hundreds of thousands had died because of all the Elder Dragons combined. There are many lives to be avenged.

And even when the dragons and their minions are extinguished, an Avenger will still find a cause, yet a Dragon Hurrdurr will not. Guardians are empowered by their faith, and are driven by purpose. Avengers honor those who have fallen, and bring justice to those responsible for the devastation. As a specilzation, their purpose would be clear.

I would be very pleased if it was called the Avenger. But personally the ship has sailed, I do no longer care for the Guardian as a profession. The elite specialization name was a big red flag, but now that we see the vision of the DH in action, I’ve come to the realisation that it is not for me. I’m now using my Guardian’s name for when the Herald is released. I love defensive gameplay and wielding a shield, so it was a no brainer for me.

As for the Paragon, I’ve said this before but there is strong lore justification for a Longbow wielding Paragon. Kieran Thackery started out as a Ranger but eventually became a Paragon, yet he still was linked with Ranger’s longbow. So one could theorise that when the Paragon profession came to Tyria, they swapped out the exotic javelin styled spears of the Elonian Sunspears for the longbow of which Kieran and the rest of the Ebon Vanguard are proficient in.

Rename the DH as the Paragon, keep the new virtues with the Paragon wings and thrown spear plus the Ranger inspired traps and you have the spiritual successor to Kieran Thackery, without having to do heavy edits to the specialization. Just rename it the Paragon. Funnily enough his ancestor Logan, who is a Guardian could have been taught the ways of the Paragon from those Kieran taught. Therefore Logan Thackery could take on the Elite Specialisation if it was named the Paragon, and become the true second coming of Kieran Thackery.

there will be more specializations in the future with different names. For now i am getting used to the name though not used to the mechanics.

Is this thread still alive? come on guys… it is not like you will have Dragon Hunter title next to your name. It is just the title for the extra elite trait line. Get used to it.

You know that “Avenger” and “Daredevil” are common words with a meaning, right? Or are you implying that “virtue of Justice” is a copyright infrangement for Justice League?

And Daredevil is Marvel by the way.

I’d say Id be not happy with Avenger, but I could live with it, when anet renames at the same time also the unfitting hunter/biggame hunter traits to the same term, redesigns the idiotic dragon head elite to look as somethign fitting and more light based and then finally also renames the Avenger Title that you can earn from playing PvP to somethign different.

I’d personally still prefer it, if the Class gets renamed either to Seeker or Inquisitor, because both are terms, that fit much better together with the over zealous theme of the original Guardian, while have a much strogner connection also to the element of light and some kind of “duty” to fullfill that comes near to their original concept of having somethign thats similar to a witchhunter, other tna this silly forced upon us “revenge” lore from Braham, that is for me the only reason, why people come up now with “Avenger”

Remove traps….give us something useful. We are last and least specialization. Change it !!JUST DO IT !!!

I just remembered the interview Jon Peters gave about new profession icons for each elite specialization. If the DH gets a little dragon head icon, then that’ll be there to remind me of the name…
