Hi,
I’m returning to Guild Wars 2. I never got max lvl character, but now its time. I mostly pick range class. But this time it’s hard.

If you have to choose, between Ranger or Dragonhunter — which class will it be? And why?

Maybe this way you can help me choose right
I’m not a fan of PvP. I mostly play PvE content — raids, dungeons and other PvE stuff. But from time to time I will go for sPvP.

I’ve not been able to make the choice (though in my case because I want both pet and support), been playing dual main ranger&guardian.

Ranger pros:

  • better full-range builds (staff/longbow or staff/axe)
  • pet collecting and learning pet commands
  • choice to range with pet tank
  • better open world exploration
  • one with nature and and the sun and the moon and the stars

Guardian pros:

  • a more defined hunter style
  • no pet to keep track of
  • more interesting utility skills
  • more straight-forward support and generally easier-to-learn mechanics
  • feels good when you kill wyverns

(not listing melee-related things)

So a bit more pros for ranger. I’m doing mainly open world PvE and sPvP, so can’t say about dungeons&similar.

This one always make me laugh… if you can’t do enough damage to pull mobs off a pet your DPS SUCKS.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

For a lot of mobs closest target take priority. I know a lot of ranger think that this is based on damage, since many times a mob will run by your pet. This is only because most mobs will target those how have done damage over a potential target that hasn’t dealt damage yet.

A quick stealth will have the mob target your pet and most likely stay on target.

As to the topic I think Guardian/Dragon hunter is a better choice. Unless you really like the pet then go with the Guardian/Dragon Hunter.

In order to properly understand the big picture,
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.
