Dropped the ball on stronghold
GVG works only for GW1
GW2 has a different fighting system, different graphics and mechanics, 5 v5 is quite enough.
The last thread made here about this got moved to the PvP forums. Might want to jump over to the discussion there to join in.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
They dropped the ball because it doesn’t fit your personal preference?
Well, then I saw they completely nailed it because I like how it is and am looking forward to it.

Might want to check out his point #2, then. Unless you like being able to play it only when the RNG adds it to the list of three maps you get to pick from, and THEN when the spinner lands on it. That’s right, two RNG checks to pass before you can play the new mode. (One if all 10 players click Stronghold, but you can’t really count on that.)

Well to be fair that is not a problem of the stronghold mode itself (which i personally think is fine) but a problem with the queuing system.
So the heart of your complaint is that you can’t tailor a min/max build specifically for a game mode? Because that’s pretty weak. You can already do that with custom arenas.
Ranked matches will (probably) always be Conquest, so you already have complete control of the nature of the fight there.
But if that is expanded, you can expect to see separate ques for Deathmatch and Stronghold. So far both of those modes only has one map confirmed.
Not exactly something you can build a que out of at the moment.
Also, in custom arena you can set Stronghold to be 10vs10. So. Yeah. There’s your GW1 GvG, +2.
I expected something more akin to warcraft`s “battlegrounds”, with larger teams. A medium point somewhere between PvP and WvW in scale that would likely please quite a few people.
Unfortunately we are getting something that is very complex and somewhat wasted on such a small number of participants. It could be a lot more than just a fancy map for pvp, which is what it seems to be coming across as. Really, it should be a game mode, 8v8 at least and set apart from the usual arena style pvp.
#1. The map only supports 5v5. That’s not big enough for a gvg, should at least be 8v8, if not more.
Their plan wasn’t GvG :/
#2. The mode is not on a separate queue.
This is a valid point I think.
Stronghold sounds ENTIRELY different from Conquest. I really do agree that it should be in a separate queue. That’s like going into HotM and queuing for an sPVP match, and then you get thrown into Edge of the Mists. Yes, it’s PVP but it’s very different.

Yeah, I mean there are times when I’d love to play a TDM match but when all but 1 of the maps are conquest, I make builds based on conquest, where there’s more 1v1 fighting and rarely more than 3v3, where aoe isn’t so godly, where a shatter mesmer can do pretty well. TDM it’s a straight up 5v5, and in courtyard particularly there’s a lot of small spaces and chokes that make AOE absolutely amazing in that map.
So you can’t really queue up with an aoe build hoping for the RNG to pick Courtyard Twice.
Anet just screwed up horribly with that.
Well I definitely agree with the idea of more variety and separate queues. As there is only 1 stronghold and one deathmatch map, I can however see why they don’t have separate queues. However as they add more maps (which they really should start getting on asap) I do think they need to start separating the queues. Granted this would separate the player-base a bit and potentially lead to longer wait time, but I’d rather wait longer to get a game mode I want than wait to get a game mode I don’t want.
They should definitely have separate queues. People wanting to do Stronghold shouldn’t be expected to do RNG until they maybe get it.
