Hey Ladies & Gentlemen,
I’ve not seen any threads about this recently, so I thought I would make one to get your opinions on the Druid.
Personally I want to play one, but hope it won’t be too terrible. I think the Ranger will have their Longbow removed, to take the staff for the Druid profession. I’m trying to figure out where they will fit in WvW/Dungeons and other group content as I highly doubt they will be anything like GW1 Druids.
So what are you thoughts, concerns, opinions or hopes?
(edited by Vepo.4208)
Ah it’s fine, I found this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/The-Druid
Sorry for the spam.
They have a staff.
They shoot a vine.
My thoughts, they have a staff skill that shoots a vine.
My concerns, I will get back to you once I see more then a staff shooting a vine.
My opinions, I think staff shooting vines is cool.
My hopes, I want to see staff shoot vines faster.
Do you think people would then start to make threads titled “Vines are OP!” ? :P
There probably is a crybaby thread for vine skills ingame already,
Avatar of Melandru vines
sylvari utility vine
Ranger elite vines
Rune of the Grove vine
2 are AoE vines
3 are no-targeting required
2 are under a minute recharge
Clearly op vines are already wrecking wvw pvp balance.
Why the longbow? You longbow haters are all the same… ;~;
Seriously though, I hope the druid’s class mechanics will add something more than what we already have, do something more with those F1~4 skills. The pet as it is right now suffers from major flaws that keep it from being as good as the mechanics of other professions. These flaws are the poor pathing mechanics (which every NPC in the game suffers from), the poor AI, and the fact that it’s nearly impossible for a melee pet to hit an enemy player reliably due to having to stand still while casting their default attack. In all honesty, if they just fixed the pet, I’d be glad with just that.
As for the Druid’s role, I suspect the staff will work as a sort of aoe support and/or control weapon (and hopefully some good new utility, heal and elite skills to go with it), possibly giving us something the ranger doesn’t currently have: propper team support. This might be able to boost it to have a solid spot in the top tier of PvP, which now mainly filled with cele engies, eles, and warriors.

Racial skills can not be used in PvP.

wvw pvp. didn’t say spvp ;-)
Druids! What are you thoughts/concerns?
That they will get even more useless pets so other professions can laugh at Rangers even more…
My concern is the ability of people to have all kinds of concerns without having any clue as to what the druid is.
I dont like the idea of staff for a ranger. It’s a medium class and should use pistols or rifles. I love pets. I think having one class with pets is fun and stands out from other classes. I would like to see an overhaul on pets and their skills Cuz as it stands now most players use the same active pets.

You do have a valid point Diovid. However; allowing people to voice their possible concerns of what they wouldn’t like to see, may provide Arena.net with some information, which they may have overlooked for example.
Also it’s good to allow people to vent from time to time.
I just hope he won’t be flora oriented (like vines), I love druids as beastmasters and weather/spirit controllers.
So lets just wait for introduction.. ASAP!
Personally it would be cool to have a medium ele, with a shape shift ability and the ability to move around very quickly like a ranger for example.
It’s all but, yeah and may bes, but I just hope Arena.net get around to releasing more information soon

Staff is a traditional ranger weapon from the original guild wars. I mean, you couldn’t be a serious underworld trapper without a staff, and I at least used one when I ran touch ranger.
Not to say I wasn’t hoping rifle would be our specialization weapon, but I can’t say I am disappointed either.

Why should medium classes use pistols and rifles? Is there some kind of rule for that? There are as much classes with heavy armor who use rifles as there as are classes with medium armor who uses rifles. Granted, for pistols it is a bit different but still. I don’t see the neccesity there.
Futhermore, Anet has specifically said that Rangers shy away from technology because of their connection to nature. If Anet decides to create a ranger specialization with a rifle or a gun it would have to be one which, to some extent, leaves the connection to nature (I can imagine such a specialization giving up the pet completely since a lot of (potential) ranger players have asked for that).

My concern is that I will still have to use pets.
Oh and that I won’t be able to use LB and Staff at the same time.
Instead of terrible bearbows we’re gonna have support Druid rangers running around with a bear. I call them bruids. They will be worse than bearbow and continue to give Ranger an even more terrible stigma
I’ll tinker with it, but I’m not really interested in that kinda spec. I’ve always envisioned my Ranger as more of a hunter/skirmisher/survivalist type. He respects and honors nature, but not in a spiritual sense. It’s a more practical view of valuing the balance of nature. It’s his home and playground, don’t abuse it, take more than you need, thank your prey for it’s sacrifice, etc.
So hopefully a future spec will fall more in line with that, but idk since the hunter type would make sense with a rifle, which i would love, but not sure how Anet feels about that.

Lorewise they can shapeshift. I hope they can in the game.
Also I hope they get great Support healing to compete with Eles and Guardians in terms of group support.
Also hope shapeshift/pet allow for Great Melee tanking
Ranger is the most broken class in this game. It has no survival skills. Ranger traits compared to those of other classes are simply…..SADNESS.
Ranger F skills are useless too : if our pet dies LOL no more F skills anymore. ( ehhh compare our F skills with warriors one like eviscerate and cry with me )
If ranger is broken Druid will be too.
After two years and half of disappointment for ranger class…Druid will be the next step of disappointment.
Anet fix ranger and balance it

In WvW I enjoy Spirit build. Also ranger is fun in 1v1 fights.

Honestly, it probably won’t happen but what if a druid could get a higher tier of pet lets say because they’re closer to nature or whatever.
We’re heading to the jungle, you know what’s in the jungle I bet? Gorillas. You know what’s the same as gorillas mechanically? Minotaurs lol idk I’m being rediculous in thinking it’ll happen but you never know.
Looking forward to seeing rangers with something other than just longbow spiking as their play style.

Then keep your pet alive. It’s not that hard.

In big fights they will die anyway. It’ s not that hard to understand

I am worried that the Druids may not have an Elite called Stonehenge.

Your getting really annoying… I bet every profession will be broken as long as you play it (not judging you intellect).
After two years and half of disappointment you say… try another prof maybe? man I don’t even…

Well said… I agree
Ranger pets are at their weakest versus area bosses or WvW zergs – if it’s a problem, use a ranged pet that doesn’t have to get close. After all, you wouldn’t last long if you just rushed up to point-blank and stayed there either, even if you’re a warrior with eviscerate.
The flipside is – ranger pets are able to tank quite a few champions, which buys you plenty of time to hammer them with DPS and beat them even if you’re solo. I wouldn’t characterize that as “useless”.
Rangers do have their weaknesses, but they’re a lot more complicated than just “pets are bad” – and they have their strengths, too. There are plenty of people who play a ranger and can pull their weight.
