Dueling as a Guild Hall Feature?
Elementalist – Necromancer – Warrior
I would not object to this implementation at all! It would be a great place to host our guilds little prize duels, that wouldnt be in the open world(Biggest gripe with dueling threads is that). This way nobody has to deal with Griefers or Any of the negatives that come with dueling!
Dueling in guild halls? I’m all for it. It seems like a nice way to open up dueling for those that want it and keep it away from those that don’t care for it. Maybe that is what this means:

O wow I totally missed that when I read it. Hypetrain is running me over right now

This is something I can live with. +1
**Not a dueling fan, but I support this idea 100%. I think it’s fair enough to keep everyone happy.
I could get behind this too as long as it stayed in the Guild Halls…
BUT
Be careful what you wish for. Most Pro-Dueling players want to duel with their PvE gear setups and not their PvP setups. If ANet gives guild halls dueling, it might be done with the PvP setup so they don’t have to worry about balance issues.

yea i agree guilds should have dueling option
Personally, I’d much rather have an open world implementation. It gives a lot more area/many more places to fight and will likely be much more varied then any arena they would put in the guild halls. Additionally, a big part of dueling to me is that it can be used to kill time when waiting for world bosses or whatever.
This would be cool, assuming it used your PvE gear, but I’d rather see actual open world dueling.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by griefers and such for open world dueling =o?
look up the WoW player that guarded a bridge somewhere and killed everyone that came upon him. famous example of in-world non-instanced dueling used to grief.
GW1 halls had it’s own personal battle option, where you could go 1v1 or up to 8v8 to practice for GvG battles. It was a great way to test builds and get to know how things worked, and it was separated and treated just like a pvp zone, so all skills and abilities were adjusted accordingly. This would be an excellent addition, and could be something to add a tier of research to the Art of War in the guild hall construction line.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what is being talked about by ‘dueling’… but my understanding is that dueling would be 1v1 or XvX on INVITE. As in you would have to challenge another to a duel and cannot just run around killing people…which would be Open world PvP, not dueling.

It would be by invite, but even repeated invited can be considered griefing (see: gold sellers, LFG abuse, etc). In the aforementioned example the factions in WoW were involved, as you could freely attack anyone that belonged to the other faction. I don’t see that problem even existing in this game, but there is nothing preventing bugs from slipping through.
Inb4: fixed a coding error that allowed Asura to initiate duals with players without confirmation. that kind of thing.

A possible way of preventing the griefing of large amounts of invites is to make an ON/OFF feature to allow you to ignore/ not accept automatically or allow it to ask you.
But you are 100% correct about that, it’s hard to predict a bug and if one slips through it could turn into a bad time with people just going around killing others. If they do add the feature, personally I would like it so its just a duel, no staking for gold or items and such…i can see tons of issues coming from something like that.
I dont think that, “what if there are bugs,” is a good reason to not develop something. If it were then nothing would ever be developed for the game because there will always be bugs that need to be fixed.

Well, i read battle together, not against each other.
Also, private arenas….
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
You can ALREADY DUEL – I mean setup a private PvP ARENA and invite WHO YOU WANT and duel away…..
If you want to duel in your OP PvE then no.

I dunno if this is because many people in this game are in here as their first MMO or what, but there seems to be alot of misunderstanding about dueling.
Dueling in every other MMO community is widely understood to mean some sort of system where you can request a friendly bought with one other player at any time, and the two of you proceed to be set hostile to each other and only each other, usually ending before anybody actually dies (1hp in most games would probs be downstate in gw2).
This is 100% distinct from open world pvp, which is the system WoW used in that example you gave. Nobody is trying to push GW2 in the open world pvp direction, as I think we can all agree that would be pretty bad for the game given how the systems are set up.
Regarding the bug thing, come on. That’s like saying we should never implement better fractal rewards because there we might see “fixed a coding error that allowed asura players to recieve rewards for free”. Ridiculously unlikely and pointless to talk about.

So tired of people with no idea what they’re talking about throwing this out.
You can already have guild halls. Just get your guild to stand in one place and drop a bunch of guild flags.
O whats that? You want content that isn’t just some arbitrary fiction you’ve imposed upon a gametype that neither supports nor enforces anything? Don’t feel like depending on the good grace of a bunch of strangers not to butt in on what you and your friends have all agreed to do? Would you like not to pay into a goldsink for the right to do something that is basic functionality in every single other game of the genre and leads to no problems in any of those games? Guess thats just too bad amirite?

Dueling would be awesome in Guild Halls.
And before people state “oh you can duel in sPvP”, some classes are weaker/stronger in PvP than in the rest of the game due to the limited stats offered by Amulets, as well as lack of food buffs (of which some classes benefit more than others).

re: Dueling would be awesome in Guild Halls./some classes are weaker/stronger in PvP – In GW1 guild halls were considered a PvP area – PvP versions of skills were in effect, etc… So this might not be the solution you’re thinking it would be, if Anet does GW2 guild halls the same way.
Maybe people should ask whether guild halls will be considered a PvP or PvE area, before they decide that they want it or not.
I myself do not want Anet spending time and resources to further try and balance traits and skills for 1v1. And I can see it causing further issues if they don’t split skills and traits into PvE, PvP, and Duel versions.
indeed, griefers, spammers, dueling already exists via custom arenas, everyone only plays gw2 because there is no dueling, everything would be balanced for 1v1, it’d be just like wow, duelers are toxic, it could be bugged and right now gw2 has no bugs, i don’t want anet to dev features i wouldn’t play only features that matter to me forget youse guys
did i miss anything?

Gw2 has no bugs? /sarcasm? and besides do you even care to explain how duelers are toxic other than you clearly do not want the feature. Its not like you would even need to use it.
Just because you would not use a feature does not mean there is a group of people that would like to have it.

I’m pretty sure he’s being 100% sarcastic and actually in favor of dueling here. The strawman thing and “did i miss anything” were rather obvious giveaways.

It would be the perfect location for a gladiator arena for some casual dueling fun. With ofcourse a last man standing allout brawl option.

Hopefully you can do more than dress up in the new guild halls, else the CDI will have been all for nothing.

all for nothing? i think not sir.
I agree. This would be an interesting concept. I remember vaguely something like this in GW1. Guild sparring before PvP matches. It would spawn creative friendly competition especially for teams that want to get some good practice in.
I mean we do have the custom rooms on the PVP lobby, but having Guild only training inside the grand guild hall would completely fill the entire GUILD WARS 2 EXPERIENCE.
So excited for the concept.

Looks like I might have been correct from what I saw during the live feed. You get a combat arena that looks like it might be for small scale 1v1 combat (read duels) and larger scale combat.
