Elementalist is extremely weak
I think part of the point of elite specs was to put pressure on builds like this.
in a team setting, you might be more reliant on teammates than before in order to utilize the new features.
The Tempest slot has forced you to do nothing. Every ele I know is staying FWA

If you want people to take you seriously, play necro long enough to understand how ignorant it is to say ‘they have two lives’ or don’t comment on it at all..

This doesn’t solve the problem. Everyone else gets the goodies, just because you CAN choose to not do the elite spec, doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t make the elite spec worth having.
I don’t really play ele, but my friends have similar feedback.

Or Thief long enough to understand the true problems you could be having with sustain in fights against… well, anyone.
Tempest is extremely overpowered. I would put it on the level of Shatterspike 2.0 (what is it called? Chronomancer? Stupid name, should just call it Shatterspike 2.0)
I’ve been wrecking face with it the last three betas.
You are just a bad elementalist.

I main Warrior and 0% of me wants to play Berserker. Whether or not the elite skills are any good, they are (for the first time) providing us with different builds.
And that my friends, is a step forwards.

Elite specs were introduced to compensate for the flaws of some profession. Druid because Ranger lacked group support and CC. Scrapper for a melee option, etc. People feel like Tempest is underpowered because there isn’t much to improve in Ele to begin with.
Also, Elite specs are not meant to “upgrade” your effectiveness, but rather to provide you with another way of playing that’s different. What you’re experiencing with Tempest is intended design.
Yea elementalists can already do everything so all they can get is a new way to do stuff.
I don’t have BWE, why is Tempest so bad? Can anyone explain?
Pikachu, Tempests aren’t that bad. It just doesn’t feel elite. Compare it to reaper or chronomancer where the change in gameplay is HUGE and how they bring new and exciting ways to play those classes, the ele just doesn’t stand up to it. You could use the warhorn, but you could also stick with the dagger or focus. It didn’t outshine them in a significant way.
It’s already well noted that most Elementalists won’t be doing Tempest.
They’ll have to look at their numbers a month or so from launch and see that, and then go from there.
Hopefully the person responsible for Tempest/DragonHunter is not given that kind of influence next time around.

It’s not bad, it’s just not exciting. Elite specs were meant to allow a profession to do something it couldn’t previously do, but there isn’t actually anything that elementalists couldn’t already do with their base specs, so Tempest didn’t have any new ground to cover. A lot of people weren’t really excited about it being a frontline support spec, because ele can already support better than almost any other class with staff.

1) Tempest is a slightly different version of a playstyle Ele has already had for the past 3 years – D/D. The close-range support playstyle already existed, Tempest is nothing new.
2) Tempest main mechanic, overloads, are unusable – they’re not worth the time and risk factor to be worth using. 4secs to channel, still very easy to interrupt, severe consequences to interruption, weak effects, stupid animations… they just suck.
3) Uninteresting/uninspired traits that don’t synergise well with existing traits.
The most disturbing thing is there was almost universal criticism of Tempest along these 3 lines when Tempest first came out, and it was clear from any reading of the feedback that it was fundamentally a role problem, not a numbers/perceived power problem.
What did Anet do? bumped a few numbers.
Yea elementalists can already do everything so all they can get is a new way to do stuff.
The obvious solution to that was to give Ele a spec that didn’t have any support or tried to do everything. eg: DPS/mobility/CC and no support.
The Tempest trait line is amazing. Super protection? stunbreaks out the wazoo? Elementalists are spoiled :P
Actually I think that the Tempest ir great!
Hust see: attune on fire, wait X seconds, active the warhorn skill 5, active the fire overload, blast insane might and burn, active the warhorn skill 4 to apply more might and what you obtain is a enemy with 15-20 stack of burn and allies with 15-25 stack of might.
All that with 3 skills.
Yeah, the tempest is bad. really really bad.
Tempest is a good specialization and it’s fun to play. It’s a lot more fun than core Elementalist. Maybe you are playing Elementalist wrong.. and maybe you are using berserk or assassin stats.
You can always give up the whole “boon on attunement swap/spell on dodge” thing. It’s not the only thing great that Elementalist has. Or you could try playing a bit with normal cooldown cantrips and heal on water swap. Or you could, you know, just not use tempest line. Most don’t want to use the overloads and many feel the shouts don’t replace cantrips and warhorn isn’t very good for damage or solo…
The game should be about choices and builds should be about sacrifice. If you feel water and arcane are mandatory, you’ve got your mentality quite wrong.
I’ve played my Ele as my main for years. Being a squishy target that does huge DPS is the fun of the class. I agree with funeralfun.9135, This is not fun and flies in the face of what makes an Ele fun to play!

But they do have two lives…. I have 3 necros and that is just a fact. It is more ignorant to deny that they have two lives than to say they do.

I do a lot of dps when I play Tempest. You are probably doing it wrong. The most damage you get from tempest is fire and wind. I prefer Scepter + Warhorn, but Dagger + Warhorn is ok. You don’t even have to use warhorn..
The only time I will be playing tempest is if I’m pushing for group protection/healing with auras. Got a couple builds that work well with it, but I agree with everyone else that it’s very boring compared to the other specializations.
