You can play your specialization it takes only 60hp to unlock… that shouldnt be too hard to get. Why is that a problem? is it because you dont have your entire mastery line unlocked? Cant you just play it an augment it as you win skill challenge? why is that a problem? when we started a new profession in the core game we had 0 trait lines unlocked its not like that meant we were not playing our chosen class did it?

Still, the problem raised about Hero Points being guarded by champions is an issue. A veteran is soloable. Most champions are soloable with skill. Combine that, and it gets hard really quick. And now there are a lot of people running around the maps. Over time this will decrease as the population spreads to the rest of the world.
this is not true, because megaserver.

Wow huge bummer. I don’t get to play until Sunday but was looking forward to playing with the new elite LOL

Seriously people. Elite spec is kinda like a new class, which MMO has ever released a new class that you get fully unlocked from the get go?
Like a new class you start playing it bare and you build on it as you play, you dont get full access to everything the class offers on day 1. Seriously this community can be perplexing at times

Wanted to play the new content with new specializations and thus a new way to play, find myself playing the new content in the same old way, thus making it staler than it could, nay should have been.
By the time I have say daredevil unlocked to the point I can use it, I will have had to repeat content over and over again to unlock masteries to allow me to even touch some of the hero challenges.
And the hero challenges why do so many have to be group challenges, that’s going to make alts hard to unlock elites for. It already takes ages to get people together to do one, what will happen when the newness wears off and the maps are low population?

OMG something you can’t get in one day of playing. OMG. It’s the end of the world. Why don’t they just hand you everything. Cause that’s all I see when I read this post
Then I suggest you work on your reading and comprehension. There is not point in these elite specialistions if by the time they’re unlocked you’ve exhausted all of the expansion content. This is the point of endgame content, to give you something to do with the abilities you earned getting to max level.
We have a bitter Betty over here. Who wants everything handed to them. Cause that’s all I read from this. Let’s just all get everything at launch right away. So then the masses can complain again for 3 years of no content! Hurrah!

it takes way to long and is very frustrating- i want to unlock the elite TO PLAy the new content i dont want to play trhough all of the new content TO UNLOCK the elite and then have nothing to do with it…
IMO the required elite points should be reduced to 200-250…. so that someone who has world completion can unlock the elite immediatly if he/she wants

I also want to play with my elite spec. However, the farther I progress, the more fun I’m having. I’ve unlocked gliding and bouncing mushrooms, and I’m working towards tolerance to poison vines, which will let me get some hero points that seemed impossible when I started. I have not repeated anything or “grinded”. Instead, I am simply exploring the new zones and when I discover something (mastery) I try and go back to get some of the things I couldn’t when I passed the first time.
Since, I haven’t made it to the end yet (I still have a long way to go, as I’m only about 20% done with my spec). So maybe playing the expac will get boring, but I find the new zones fun.
Also, I’m pretty sure mastery is account wide, so we really only have to “grind” once. In two months time, exploring this zone for hero points on any other character will be no harder than other zones. (endgame) This is our endgame progression. Enjoy it. Don’t assume it’s not fun, because of other assumptions. (Elite were easy to get) When I get my elite spec unlocked in a week or two, I will probably be really happy. I’m also playing one of the most affected elite specs (daredevil), which doesn’t get it’s profession mechanikittenil the end of the trait line.
I hope players give it a shot, and play a profession they enjoy in the jungle for the mastery grind. You can come back on another character later with all mastery already unlocked and easily get your less fun characters their elite specs to try them out. I know some people (like myself on chrono) want to try the elite specs and didn’t really enjoy the base class as much. I gave up almost right away on my mesmer. Doing the new zone on my thief is much more fun for me. So bring your favorite class and explore the new zones, you’ll progress in time. Also, at the rate I’m unlocking masteries, I can’t believe I’ll have to finish the new zones to get my hero points. (As I’ll probably start playing my elite spec when I’m still missing some of the upper tier stuff… A daredevil who can’t dodge in any special way, but then it will feel great to unlock my special dodges)
Good luck all, and for those who really hate PvE, A-Net will probably adjust the requirements soonish. The complaints are volumous, but I’m glad I’m getting to experience “hard mode” before its simplified.

I agree with the person who said that the hero points should not have champs with them. Make us earn them, okay, but I don’t like not being able to solo them. I find myself standing near them spamming map chat or just waiting for a group to come in, and for some of the harder to reach ones it takes a long while. An mmo should encourage groups, but not force them.

So much of the new content is gated behind massive amounts of grinding, it makes you wonder what we actually paid for. I really don’t know why they changed their game philosophy so drastically with HoT.

Just want to add my own displeasure with this system. I have 13 characters, none of which have map completion because I find that aspect of the game tedious. I despise jumping puzzles (which is how the new maps feel to me) and really only bought the expansion for two reasons: Revenant and a couple of the Elite specs. Now I have basically come to the conclusion that unless there is a major change (and I am not optimistic there will be one because of the way the entire expansion is designed) I paid $75 for a Revenant that is potentially kitten because I’ll never have the patience to gind all those HP. If I had any hope of getting a refund I would pursue that avenue immediately.

I spent £850 on building my new desktop JUST for HoT. Throw in the £35 for the game and that’s too close to £1k I’ve spent.
I feel like I’ve been robbed by this insane 400 HP requirement to unlock my elite spec.
And before all the fanboys scream at me – no, I’m NOT asking for “everything to be handed to me on a plate straight away”. What I AM asking for is a non-ridiculous requirement, such as 200 HP to unlock the Espec.
I KNOW these things have to be earned, but I have a job, and real-life commitments that take up the majority of my time. I can afford to play GW2 for 3 hours per day at the weekends and half that on weekdays. Again, I don’t have a problem with “earning” the content in-game, but I DO have a problem with this ridiculous mind-numbing grind. It’s going to be weeks if not months before I can access my full Espec, and this amount of grind required to unlock the Espec was NOT advertised with the expansion.
Incredibly disappointed by this release.

If it was 200 HP then you could’ve unlocked about 75% of your elite-spec before even playing the expansion.
I’d settle for 300.

+1 Why didnt the advertise this nonsense before is what i ask, during the beta events and whatnot so people woould not feel this disapointing about wasting money. I am pretty sure they will nerf this nonsense at some point alongside with offrening cheaper vesion of the game, so we could just have waited for that to happen.

I can’t even enjoy the game right now cuz all I could thunk of is the sheer amount of hp I need to unlcok the whole spec. I honestly thought that 400 hp was for cosmetics stuff and the trait line won’t be a problem at all.

They did, it was aid you need to use hp to unlock them. THere was rumor data mined for 250+, though I am unsure the excat amount needed, you could have had 200hp from core map, the elite unlock at 60hp, and now we learn you can ear 400 in the jungle from 40 points. So truly we are lucky it not that bad. It a goal to earn while exploring the harshness of the jungle.

For a “casual” player with 5 alts (all level 80), these changes have all but killed the game for me. After 3 years, I think it’s time to find another MMO to play.

You consider the elite spec to be a simple trophy you get at the end?
Sorry, I wanted to play the jungle as my espec, not get it as an end reward for doing all of the hero points in the jungle, grats here’s an elite spec to stick on a shelf somewhere.
I could go do core world completion for half of it, so that it only ruins half the jungle grinding for the other 20 points, but that’s not how I envisioned starting off with my Rev.

To cover up the lack of content. It drags out progression.

And you get like 10 hero points per challange. So you only need to do 1 or 2 challanges to unlock something new. On top of that you probably had a bunch of hero points banked, because it’s not a new character.

Its the release day of HoT and I wanna quit the game and im probably not gonna pay again. The expansion grind hero point system killed it for me. i mean omg wtf…who designed this crap hero point system. I only have time to do wvw/pvp. Thats the only thing i enjoy about mmos. im not gonna be forced into spending extra time in crappy pve which i hate from the bottom of my heart
I can’t help but feel, they deliberately did this too slow us all up, to drag out content and progression and make the game last longer.
Of course, it’s just aggravated 90% of the player base and many will simply give up.

As a player with 15 characters (a double for almost every class), I find the current situation disappointing and frustrating. Solutions:
1. Halve the SP cost (to 200). If one has full map completion, that means he’s played enough to master a new spec. Really, after 3 years the last thing one wants is to play his old class instead of a new one.
1.1. Move decorative reward to end of line. I can live without the new pretty exo shield, thanks. Really, that’s how this game always worked: functionality from day one, cosmetics – after a variable grind.
2. Make each class elite spec unlock account-bound. My main is a mesmer and I finish all LS on it; I also made a mesmer themed for a chronomancer; do you really expect I will enjoy grinding the same 400 points in the same content just to have characters with different skins? No thanks; I should better think of asking for the char slot refund for all my duplicates in that case.

This is a bunch of crap. In other games you level up a new class in old content. When you hit the NEW content you have most of what you need to actually PLAY with it. There might be a new skill or ability available at max level but not the entire class… when legion comes out you can bet a new demon hunter will be able to enjoy the new content with a new toy which is what elite specs were supposed to be.

Gotta agree that the maps are hard to navigate and you need to gain masteries to even enjoy the navigation. Which is lose-lose: while gaining the necessary masteries, you don’t enjoy the region, but once you gain them you’re ready to move on.
Also, I had a bunch of spare points and figured it’d be enough for the Elite or they’d refund points and let us concentrate on the Elite. (Which is not an Elite: it’s a different kind of play style, not a near-OP improvement on the regular play style.) So now I have a little less than half of a Reaper, and synergy of skills is 20+ new-world points (10-points each) away. At a minimum: shouts, skills, and skins could have been three sub-areas under Reaper, so we could focus our points in the direction we want.
It really feels like someone said, “Hey, we worked kitten this content, and we’re going to make players experience every last drop of it! No choices, no tradeoffs, no skipping! Players will experience every special snowflake we put into this or they’ll suffer.”

Too bad we have some gullible players who can’t tell the difference between “content” and “mindless, easy repetitive gating in order to unlock content”.
If anything, the current gating for specializations is a smoke screen to how little real content HoT has.

I don’t see how anyone could have thought this would be ok. You give us these specializations in the Betas to test and the hype ensues for the new specs. Then you gate them behind PvE or a ton of mindless objective zerging in WvW. What possibly could have made you think ‘Yeah, they want to play through 90% of new content with their OLD class mechanics so that they can unlock a NEW class mechanic when they are almost FINISHED with the content!!!!!’ What the hell? Having and elite spec is not endgame and it was ignorant to make it so.
Just my 2c on the issue. Hopefully this thread attracts enough visibility and anet isn’t stubborn about making a reasonable change.
