Elite Specializations for all?
There are a few questions bothering me regarding the Elite Specializations:
Will they be available to ALL Players in GW2?
Even those who decide NOT to buy the Addon?
I mean, it should be for every Player but its not really clearly stated (yet).
So, are the Elite Specializations part of the New Trait system and will they be available for all existing Classes with the Release of the Addon?
Elite specializations are only available for those with Heart of Thorns.
If thats the case, how does Anet want to balance WvW and PvP?
Anet has stated that they will try to make elite specializations as strong as normal specializations so that those with Heart of Thorns will have more options but not better options. Whether this will actually turn out to be true or not remains to be seen of course (and probably requires several balance updates after Heart of Thorns releases).
Edit: By the way, the new trait system will release before Heart of Thorns.
If thats the case, then i dont like it.
Ill buy the Addon anyways, but it just doesnt look right.
I know that it was similar in GW1 , but i hoped for more Equality between Addon owners and non Addon Players.
To me it looks as if its going to be very difficult to seperate them in PvP.
If the Elite specializations aren’t in the Add-on, what is the point in buying it ?
ANet has to have funds, otherwise the game won’t last long or won’t develop anything anymore. Or are people so used to free access to everything now ?

It’s not just similar, it’s exactly the same. There also isn’t really an issue with it. Should people who don’t buy the expansion also be allowed to explore the Verdant Brink? Like it’s been mentioned, the elite specs will add something new but not necessarily something strictly more powerful. This is just how expansions work.
I, too, want free content, or else I’ll be very very upset because I deserve it.
The Addon brings New Areas, new Enemies, a whole new Profession, probably one more Bank slot, character slot and maybe few bag slots and whatnot there will be.
Everyone gets the new Traitsystem, but only those with the Addon get the full playability for the old Professions.
Im just concerned about the Balance problems this may cause in competitive Game Modes, noting more or less.
I just hoped for a more refreshing way of thinking about Addons than it was back then in GW1.
People were almost forced to get all the Parts of Guild Wars to have all the skills.
On the other hand every GW2 player who still likes and actively plays this game, will buy the Addon anyways.

This is probably your first MMO expansion? It’s pretty much standard practice.

If there was any more equality between xpac and non-xpac players, then what would even be the point of having an expansion in the first place?

Why do you feel it should be for all ? I don’t agree with that.
The Point of an Expansion is just new Content.
Im just concerned about balance because the Elitespecialization changes in each Profession will bring totally different playstyles, not only a few new skills.
Back then in GW1 the older Builds and Elites were still viable at the end of GW1.
Im just worried it wont be like this here anymore.
Chronomancer is definetly more powerful than a normal Mesmer, so this could bring up balance Discussions in the future, i guess.
They already stated that the Elite Specializations will not be more powerful than the normal ones.
If thats the case, why calling them Elite?
Elite Skills in GW1 were always a bit more powerful than normal ones.
Is this just some Prestige Thing? I would love to see Elite Specializations living up their names: ELITE and powerful^^

What equality? Where is equality if you basically get the same thing but one dude gets it for free and another pays for it ?

Chrono is not definitely more pwoerful than normal mesmer AT ALL. By going CM you are forced to have his special trait line. Who’s to say mesmers new 3 trait lines, non elite, will be worse with older/updated skills vs CM ?
Wait till release. Don’t spread doom and gloom

Yeah, but if they balance the Elites right, that won’t matter. If they don’t, well, yeah, even if we all have the expansion that’s a problem.
Chronomancer can use Timeshifts to return to an earlier state of his skillbar (double Portal?), he can shorten Cooldowns of allies, with shield only he can block, stun and buff with alacrity. His Phantasms have 2 Lives, and so on.
This looks more powerful to me.
Im sure Anet will make sure that this whole thing gets balanced.

Because they’ve done such a good job with classes such as the Necromancer which are still bad compared to their favourites (ele, warri, guard, engi), and have been for more than 2.5 years, am I right? … No, I think we can expect the first nerfs to hit after at least 6 months.

As I said in another post, all classes on paper seems OP.
I bet that when people start to actually play Chronomancers you’ll see that it just a good class and not an OP class.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

LOL that would require people to actually think logically, and not be horribly biased because they dont have free kills, or have some sort of personal code that prevents them from learning how to play.
Within the first 6 months
Mesmer,Revenant,Thief, Ranger, and Warrior are gonna be nerfed because the vocal minority will take to the forums and complain about everything under the sun.
From-
To much damage
To-
Survives to much.
We may even get the occasional
Stealth is too long
Even though it was nerfed in pvp already.
Get your buckets ready, the flood is coming.
So I’m still not sure if Revenant gets a spec?
So I’m still not sure if Revenant gets a spec?
It will. All classes are getting one.
