Hi guys,
Well i’m here for talk about a thing that really annoyed me. I have really enjoyed revenant this BW but i have always play it with heralt, without this spec it feels clunky and less tanky at hell. Mesmer without chronomancer loose too much etc… The only specs that are like anet said elite specs are “changing the way to play” are dragonhunter and tempest they aren’t required to the core classe and offer more possibility of gameplay (you can play guardian or you can play dragonhunter you don’t just play dragonhunter). But they’ve been the least liked elite specs of all and know, the dev who have made these specs have made thief V2.0, the daredevil. They clearly are classes v2.0. So it is a marketting argument for p2w and sell the expansion or just no imagination? Think about it how are going to do chronomancer or heralt or daredevil the next expansion after HOT when another elite specs is comming? They are loosing a core talents line must have for they classes. At last, when elite specs are originaly intended to offer more gameplay possibility they just upgrade a class, taking a talent line, nothing more in gameplay just an upgrade.
That’s the feeling i have this night. Don’t you think guys the same thing? Aren’t those elite specs too much mandatory?

I don’t see all of them as being “classes v2.0”. Take Berserker for example. It’s just not what we needed as Warriors. I hear similar complaints about Dragon Hunter as well. In fact, outside of Reaper and Chronomancer, I see a lack of interest in the Elite Specializations so far; even in the Herald.

I’m pretty sure every necro and his mother will spec into reaper, eles and guardians will probably stay the same, not sure about other classes.

First off, it’s not pay to win. You can’t buy Guild Wars 2 anymore without HoT. So anyone buying the game will simply always have those as options.

I also don’t find these specs manditory in any way. Yes, I’m playing a Herald, I really like the play style. I don’t like shield though. I also like Daredevil because it specifically compliments the way I already play my main thief. I have no interest in staff, nor physical skills, but the addition of a third endurance bar and augmenting dodge really works for me.

I’ll also be upping my Warrior to Berserker because I like the more aggressive gameplay it offers to my tanky build.

Other than that none of the current elite interest me in any way. They are all take it or leave it for me.

I feel like most specializations offer additional mechanics without second though. Chronomancer? Additional f skill. Daredevil? Additional dodge. Herald? Additional f skill… I though elite specs would force us to choose betweet different mechanics instead of just throwing more of them. Look at Reaper – whether you decide to take that elite spec, you need to choose if you want to swap you safe, ranged shroud for one more melee focued. And i wished all the elite specs would make such difference.

If I could take just the death-shroud skills from Reaper and use them with my power build… I would. But as it stands, I am not seeing any way out of taking reaper and going condi (as condi ups chill damage).
Similarly for Herald… I need the continuous heal of regen (even if it is tiny) mixed with all the other heal traits to stay alive (even considering I almost never have any endurance) as well as the might stacking to compensate for the loss of Unyielding Anguish.
For a shatter build… or condi build… on the mesmer, I totally see needing to have chronomancer. For a power/mantra build, you do not.

For tempest… I never had a problem with it and would use it over the arcane line, even shield is pretty cool, but I do not main an ele.

For DH, it ruins my current condi build so I cannot fathom using it, even if the bow is superior to scepter/focus… it’s not worth the trait line just for that.
For DD, my thief is condi… I do not see myself taking it.

I never liked my warrior… and, while the condi aspect of it is cool, it breaks my theme so I would never use it anyhow.

Unless ranger elite helps condi, I will not take it either.
Unless engi elite helps my flamethrower/condi, I will not touch it.

tl;dr: Do what you feel but, outside Herald/Reaper, I am not seeing a reason you have to take an elite spec just to compete/survive.

P.S. I just noticed the theme of condi on all my builds… maybe that is what influences taking a trait line or not… elite or not. They are pushing condi into meta and, as a result, only those elite trait-lines that support that concept are going to be good for people to take if they are moving into that playstyle.

As a main Ele, I have my doubts many Ele’s will migrate over to Tempest. I think Tempest will remain the one Spec (perhaps with DragonHunter) that people remain excited about seeing because it’s going to be so much rarer than others.

I have no interest in it. Zero.

The elite specs make professions that weren’t appealing to me before appealing. A few examples are: Mesmer, Revenant and Necromancer.

Guardian and Ele have been my main characters since GW2 launched and I’m not that impressed with their Elite specs. I see them as adding value but the Elite Dragonhunter and Tempest specializations don’t change how I play with these classes.

So the way I see it, it’s just a way to make old classes feel new again and also to fix a few very broken things (e.g. Necromancer is finally useful)

FYI: The concept of one profession being able to evolve into another is nothing new in MMORPGs. NCSoft’s AION was offering this five years ago.

Herald was the pull I needed to start playing revenant and I really like it. Is it perfect? No.

But it has a lot of potential.

Basically I wanted to play revenant as a tanky condi bruiser class (or even as cele but that works pretty bad), but I was reluctant to do so because support with ventari honestly sucksdue to micromangement and Jalis skills don’t support and cost too much.

Then the herald was released, so I finally have a class that can support for days by pumping out powerful boons while having lots of tankiness and condition damage. No other condition build in GW2 comes close to having as much team support as my build, and thats what got me hooked.
