The dual nature of Eternity just says Revenant all over it considering the dual nature of the class mechanic.

Thoughts?

My main tought is that revenant will not be able to wield GreatSwords.

While it’s entirely possible that is the case, I suspect it will be, instead, a part of the Elite.

I agree. It would be perfect for a legend like Asgeir or another warrior-type legend.

I’m kind of hoping for this too. If not I’m not TOO worried, though. I should hopefully at least be able to slap Bolt on and call it good.

We have datamined weapons. So far we can’t tell for sure they are linking one weapon to one legend, but in fact, they are.

Ventari: Staff
Shiro: dual sword
Jalys: Hammer
Mallyx: Mace and Axe

We have one datamined shield left. Maybe they are going to change it, cause honestly, the datamined skills for mace or sword don’t really go well with the skills for shield. But then again, this is the nature of the revenant: doing two different things at the same time.

Sword is even worse, especially if (as it seems) Elementalists and Revenants will both be able to use it.

You missed the point, obviously. Both gs and axe are supposed to be a dps weapons. Thing is all axe does is damage on it aa and in pvp people bring it up for evi.

In comprasion gs does slighty higher damage over time, brings utility in form of fury, vul, mobility, evade, capable to trait for PS and stack might to the whole party just by attacking. Theres no balance between these weapons.

Greatswords are too good compared to rest of weapons.

PS. the build you run is axebow.

Assuming Shiro as last core spec will get dual sword weapon to fit its theme, I would say that the elite will come with scepter or focus to fit in glint legend theme.

There’s no way that every profession will eventually be able to get all weapons. Engineers can only use 3 weapons right now in 3 different combinations (Rifle, P/P, P/S). They would literally need to add over 15 elite specs just to get most of the combinations for engineers, and that’s just outrageous.

However, classes like Guardian and Warrior will have access to almost every weapon. I heard the magic number of 5 elite specs in total being tossed around at some point, so this would make more sense.

I hope they do get a GS – I am about 2 days away from crafting eternity.

They won’t use GS, unfortunately. S/S will probably go for the shiro spec, shield will probably go for glint’s elite spec, and that may be it.

Because they can switch between two legends? Most other professions can switch between two weapons too.

If any profession were to exemplify “duality” it would be the mesmer, with their connection to Lyssa and phantasmal skills.

Even if the Rev does’nt get greatsword this time around it will be in a future specialisation

If glint is going to be our Spec Legendary I imagine maybe Focus, Shield or Sceptre... But saying that throwing hammers and slapping people with staves I wouldn’t put it past the Revenant team to make a dagger act like a focus :p (and I say tht in a good way)

This is a good point. If the shield is Glint’s “weapon”, then Glint can’t be the elite. Would that mean Shiro is the Elite? I don’t think anything was confirmed to get off-hand swords yet.

You guys are missing the point that weapons are not obligatory tied to each legend, so shield can just be a extra core weapon without any legend tied to it. So Glint elite will just be focus or scepter, and still be a exclusive “New weapon” elite spec.

So far everything they showed was tied to something. Jalis for hammer, Mallyx for mace/axe, Ventari for staff, Shiro is obviously sword/sword. That leaves Glint with shield otherwise it will break what we have seen so far. That also fills up all roles

Mace/axe as condi (actually hybrid)
Hammer for ranged dps
Sword/sword for dps
Staff for support
Shield is 1h support as well

Shiro cant be a elite spec either as core rev will lack dps. If Glint become elite, then core rev will lack cc.

We have 3 “good” legends, and 2 “baddies”
Assuming they add another legend to rev in elite spec (even thought elite spec are supposed to change the way base class plays) it will be another baddie. What it could be is a question to gw1 players.

When did Glint become the Elite Spec? I thought Rev was going to get 5 core trait lines just like the rest of the classes and then get an additional Elite spec. Did they confirm that this isn’t the case?

Misquote. Please reread the op. That’s not what was said or even inferred.

Since shield is a 1 hand weapon only, that mean that even while shield is the “New weapon” spec, it would still need another weapon to fill the other hand, and that would even be the mace or axe (That are actually tied to another legend)

I still don’t understand where people are getting this whole (if a specialisation gets a new weapon the other classes will not get that weapon) thing from
Did they actually confirm that somewhere? I must of missed it and maybe all 5 legends will be main but the specialisation will allow us to control them in a different way maybe becoming avatars of them like the dervish could also replacing and changing all current weapon Attacks into a specific set of 5 for the legends

Well.. Them getting a greatsword reduces the chance that they will get a different weapon (i.e. they get a limited number of weapons so either they get a greatsword or they get some other weapon). In addition, some people feel that there are too many greatswords wielded in the game already. So it’s not as easy as just not using them.

It probably wouldn’t though? Every GS skillset we’ve seen so far differs greatly from any of the others. Warrior GS is about mobility and DPS, Guardian GS specializes in area control, Ranger GS is defensive, and Mesmer GS is a RANGED weapon. Obviously there can be some overlap, and it’s more important for it to fill a role that the Revenant does not have with any of the current weapons, but even so it shouldn’t be that difficult to make it unique.

Why eternity? where is this duality of the revenant? not to mention that aside from the cool swing effect and reflection, it is perhaps one of the poorer gs designs, if anything Chaos gs would make more sense and look cooler. But then again that is subjective

Glint could also be the sword/ shield set with shiro being the elite spec with off-hand sword. This would make glint focused on some sort of dps/ defense hybrid role (melee tank?) while shiro would be tied to off-hand sword. But that seems less likely to me.

Alternatively, revenant’s elite spec details may have not been leaked yet. Maybe glint, shiro, s/s and shield are all baseline.

I still have hope to see dagger offhand back as it was unique for heavy class. Not olny that but dual wielding in this game..lets say it doesnt work well due to the poor animations where your offhand does nothing at all.

I mean the purpose of dual wielding is to use 2 weapons at once, in gw2 howered dual wielding is nothing else than fighting with 1h weapon occasionally using offhand.
