So I just finished Eureka and what I noticed when comparing it to Astralaria and my Sunrise is that that Eureka is lacking strentgh regarding visuals. Lemme name some points to clarify my point

If you take Astralaria for example the arm effect is covering the entire arm and it is clearly visible. Eureka on the other side is spreading Obsidian spikes out of the base arm. The issue here is that classes with heavy armor are covering the effect nearly entirely so you can barely see the spikes. So my suggestion here would be to make the effect comming from the armor instead of the arm to fix that issue.

Another point that I saw are the foot-trails. Eureka’s foot trail effects are lasting way too short when you compare it to Sunrise for example and also the shards are suberging way too soon.

Last but not least I would really love some more “sliding effects” like Sunrise or Astralaria. I mean those effects that are following your movements like a “flag” or so.

Overall the mace is desinged pretty nice but I think for a legendary weapon the effects should be stronger cuz it currently looks more like a gem-skin to me.
What do you think ?

You mean you want a trail? But you are right, I don’t have the weapon, but one of our guildies made it. I am very happy with Atralaria (imho one of the most detailed weapons in the game). Also Nevermore has some nice effects. Hence the one from Eureka are a bit underwhelming compared to the amount of materials, gold and/or time you sink in.

The effects are fine, not everything has to be overloaded with effects like the greatswords. The greatswords could be toned down to be honest.

Nevermore is another example with over the top effects after the patch. I hate the new crit animation.

I personally like most of the effects being subtle. The only thing missing is an on hit effect when attacking stuff like shards blowing up off of the mob or the mace. Without an effect like that it seems lacking though (just like meteor, god that things needs a bit of love for being a mainhand weapon).

After watching a few videos showing Eureka and its effects, I have to say it looks really great. It IS way less tacky and exaggerated than most Legendaries… and that is awesome.

I actually wish I had any mace build to justify making it.

I hope Anet will improve the effects over time just like they did with other legendaries

While I see that some of you guys like visually less engaging weapons I would wish more that they would move such a down-toned skin version to the pre-cursor and instead improve the legendary skin. Imo the skin of Eureka does have too few effects for something that devours that insane amounts of materials and gold. A exotic item or a gem skin with that detail level would be enough but for a legendary item I expect more.

Also I suggest you to look for a ingame version of Eureka instead of watching videos to get a clearer vision abouth the things because I also was more impressed by videos. After finishing it I was kinda disappointed because the draw animation is cool and all but the weapon effects themself are poorly designed. The swings look kinda weird because that smoke effect on the mace is like a rubber-band instead of a dynamic rendered effect and the spikes are barely visible on big armor pieces just like I said before. Improve that and it might be acceptable for me.

As a big mace user I’m on the fence with this one. I am sorely tempted, but it feels a little bit more like a black lion skin with particle effects.

I’ll probably succumb if I decide against making Meterologicus

I also just finished Eureka, my 4th gen 2 and 11th overall legendary. I’m mostly satisfied.

There are a few things i think could be improved.

1. The draw animation is amazing, and the building of the head of the mace is great… i think that strong glow should come back in pulses. Currently, once it’s wielded, the mace looks a little muted and dull.

2. Footfalls. They are nice, but could have a slightly longer delay before they start, and a 1/2 second added to their duration.

3. Weapon swing trail. A more defined wispy smoke trail would look great, i don’t notice much swinging it. I’ve been playing a mace/axe condi set on warrior where i axe 5 spin in the torch firefield. I can notice some orange flamey-ness a little amongst astralarias blue starry sky trail, but it’s much less, and i don’t see it on regular auto attack swings at all.

4. All gen 2 legendary footfalls could use a slightly longer delay before starting and a slight increase in duration. They are generally much less noticeable to begin with compared to twilight.

I would love to make this mac, problem is it would be in my offhand so the efffects would be negated i believe since I have another legend in my main hand correct?

If anything, I’d like a switch on legendaries (more like, somewhere in options) to control amount of effects they produce. While some models are cool, In their current cristmas-tree state I don’t want to go for any of them.

I finished making it and it looks good on everyone but that Asurans. Even Astralaria looks good on the little guy, but the Eureka looks much weaker.

I finished my Eureka just a day ago for my Revenant and while I have to aggre with a lot of points mentioned before. Like the obsidian spikes on the draw arm beeing too short to poke out of heavy armor and the general issue of the short lasting footsteps.
I am deeply dissapointed that the animation of a the obsidian projectile which is fired with the Mace 5 skill Tremor on Warriors wasn’t used on the Mace3 skill Erupting Echos for Revenants. Of course it’s not really a projectile beeing fired but a few adjustments making the shard/ball appear to explode on every of the 3 hits which are already at least kinda visible would be great.
Or to completely abandon the projectile animation, shards like for the footsteps but a few times larger on every spot of impact appearing from the ground.
It always makes me sad when a legendary weapon that is used by almost no class just lacks the amount of animations that for example greatswords or staffs have. And both above mentioned animations for the Rev skill wouldn’t require a completly newly made animation and have the advantage of reusing already existing ones.
Eureka is a awesomly made weapon but the too subtle and too few animations kind off spoil the fun.

Most mace skills don’t have much you can add to it and then there is still the restriction to add something thematically fitting with the weapon. Tremor and Echoing Eruption are probably the only one. In the case of Moot it modifies the sound instead but what is the sound of obsidian?

All HoT legendaries have less prominent effects than Core legendaries. They just changed the design formular.

Shooshadoo has a spinning Shooshadoo for chrono shield #5(same for Flameseeker)
Engi shield 5 throws it but that is pretty much a standard thing for legendaries and skills that throw the weapon.
Didn’t see anything on guardian shield skills.
Didn’t check but not expecting anything on warrior shield skills either.

Icy explosion on draw.

FoW makes you throw a candle holder for Guardian Torch #4. It is funny but I do miss the giant blue fireball at times.

Concerning Eureka, I stand by my idea that it should have an on crit shard explosion effect like the sharks/ravens. Mace is not an often used weapon and attacks slow enough that it wouldn’t be too annoying.
