Expansion Buyable with Gems pls
You DO understand that they are a business that wants to make money… right?
Now, if you meant buying the expansion with real world money, just like you did with the base game, do what other people do and just manage your finances. It’s the same as buying any other game, if you really want it, skip on something else like a movie or two, or just save up money for it. (You’re going to have plenty of time)

Not everybody can afford such luxury man. I’m lucky to have a PC and internet connection as it is.
You have at the very least two months to save for it. If you can afford a PC and internet, there is no real excuse why you won’t be able to afford it.

How much gems are we talking about here I got 4800 and can buy another 10.000 gems with the raw gold I got on account.
Not counting all the materials and items i got in my 3 personal guild banks.
To be honest I dont feel Im wealthy at all so were do this 10-15% of the playerbase could afford it come from?
Because the gem/gold conversion rate wasn’t high enough already…
Iif they made it available at the gemstore x’D I suspect it’ll either be completely free(highly unlikely) more likely b2p.
If it is available through the gemstore they risk a huuuge lose, there are those who can afford it now. And we’ll see a lot of those who want to save money and earn gold in game to get it instead. Furthermore the only gems that are in the game are those produced when someone physically buys them with rl money.
So in terms of, do we want more expansions/living world then no I hope it won’t be buyable through the gemstore, it would be counterproductive and not produce revenue towards further expansions.
Because the gem/gold conversion rate wasn’t high enough already…
This. The gem market would crash. If they make that move say goodbye to the gemstore because there is no way anyone will be able to afford a gemstore armor set without months of heavy grinding.

Your right because no one can afford to spend money on the game. They have to use in game gold……..

So let’s say you can buy the expansion with gold (so without spending IRL money) – you wanna tell me people won’t go for it? They will, until gem prices are so out of control only people with thousands of gold will be able to afford to buy anything from there. 90%+ of players will no longer be able to get gemstore items without buying gems for money.
This would be the MMO with the most grind on the market.

You do understand that gems aren’t put into the exchange pool for nothing? However I do think the most optimum solution is to:
a) Announce early that the x-pac will be available for gems at some point, so that the exchange market has time to even out.
b) Make the x-pac unavailable for gems for a certain time period after launch, something like a few weeks, so that the hardcore enthusiasts of the game will have incentive not to just spend gold.
Another issue I’d like to point out is, if there is huge demand for the x-pac, there is potential for scamming (i.e. someone might spam in mapchat “send me x gems worth of gold, (or gift me x-gems-worth of stuff from the gem store) and Ill get you the x-pac in exchange!”). Hopefully Anet addresses that.
