Seriously? I paid for this game and suddenly it goes free to play, and then the expansion comes out at the same price as the old game… am I missing something? This business model is really confounding me as it seems incredibly disloyal to its customers.

I would understand if I bought the game years ago, but to have been charged money for a game that was free nearly immediately after and then asked for the same price again to play the expansion is incredibly demoralizing and makes me lose any motivation to play this game…

They gave money back for people thatt bought the game few months before HoT release.

So if, like you said, HoT went out “almost immediately” (but in that case it wouldn’t be the same price as the expansion), you cry 8 months too late.

Yes you’re missing something. You paid for a full version of Guild Wars 2. You can talk in map chat. You can buy and sell everything on the trading post. You have five character slots, not two. You can convert gems to gold. You don’t have the restrictions of a free to play character.

On the other hand, expansions are part and parcel of every MMO. WoW players for example pay for expansions AND play $15 a month.

I’m not sure what MMO’s you’ve played before, but they’re either pay to win, they lock professions and races and content behind micro-transaction pay walls, or they charge for expansions.

Just wait for the next expansion. When you’ll buy it, you will get HoT at no additional charge.

They already said they wouldn’t do it that way.

Times and conditions change. Anet says something a year ago, before the expansion launched. The expansion didn’t sell as well as predicted. If I were in business I wouldn’t do it.

Imagine the backlash, even though they said so, of people who said there wasn’t enough content in HoT, people who were angry about how the game went and now other people are going to get it for free? After a year or year and a half.

Hell there was a backlash about people getting a three year old game for free when they packaged it with the expansion.

It’s like people think stuff is written in stone. It’s not. It never has been. And it never will be.

Because situations and business realities change all the time. It’s not something Anet has continued to say and I have strong reservations about telling anyone that will definitely be the case, all things considered.
