With HOT coming out soon and ANET claiming that they made changes to the classes so they can have more elite spec for the future, just how many expansions do y’all think they can come out with. What could be some of he expansion concepts and elite specs? Are there any ideas that you know isn’t coming in HOT that you hope comes in future expansions?

You mean 4 more right? Mordremoth being the second, after that there’s Kralkatorrik,
Primordius, Jormag and the deep sea dragon nicknamed Bubbles for now.

I hope they don’t just do the predictable thing and have 1 dragon per expac. It’d be cool if one of them was about pitting 2 dragons against each other, or 2 dragons at war with each other for some inexplicable reason.

Or a Crystal Desert expansion dealing with a war between Kralkatorrik and Palawa Joko.

So, if there is to be an expansion for each of the remaining Dragons, then how many elite specs you think will come down the pipe. I hear some saying there’s four Dragons left and if there an elite spec per expansion, then I’m curious to what type of Warriors their gonna have next. This is gonna be crazy!

Tbh i think the whole elite spec+masteries is entirely set up to be the way expansions will work in the future. I feel A-Net is creating a mold in wich to fit all future expansions. That’s a good thing, it means they will probally be able to make em sooner now, since the baseline is set, and won’t have to stop releasing the living story for so long either. Let’s say for the Jormag expansion for example, just replace gliding with snowboarding, have the mountains as an area, and we are set to go :p

i feel snowboarding would replace jumping mushrooms, mountain climbing would replace gliding tho

If i remember correctly didn’t Anet mention some Elite Specializations may be released as part of updates?

What they said was that the elite specializations system and the mastery system are set up to be expandable and that the way these systems could be expanded could be either through expansions or through updates but that they would have to see how exactly they would do so.

I’m personally looking forward to the expansion with the underwater dragon.
It would mean, new almost exclusively underwater maps and a brand new overhauled underwater combat system. (right now, it’s a bit lacking, but has a lot of potential)
It would also come out with underwater elite specs.

I would expect it to come out last, so people get some fresh experience after all those years of on-land gameplay.

Sbubbles, thank you very much.

Selbbub sounds quite ominious, even though it’s just Bubbles in reverse…

It does remind me of “Shelboh the Ravenous”, which is a mandragora.

I’m a casual PvE adventurer, I enjoy combat, adventure and helping, but not farming.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

What could be cool: a pure underground aquatic map with vertical exploration and awesome aquatic world with a dungeon and pvp aquatic map associated. X)
Aquatic environments are not enough used. They should give a totally new and awesome dimension to gameplay and exploration, with reviewed underwater combat system.

Remember that even after the dragons there’s the question of mursaat, the fact that many GW1 evil gods and demigods have never been killed, but simply banished or imprisoned, and the fact that the mists is actually the in game explanation of a vast multiverse that could contain worlds as complex as tyria, but utterly new and alien to anything we’ve experienced thusfar.

Basically, they’ll keep making expansions until they stop making money or want to completely throw out the core design and replace it with something else (like GW1>GW2)

Funny, I was asking myself the same question the other day.
Let’s see. Guild Wars 2 was released mid-2012, so it’s pretty much three years old. We can argue when they technically started developing the expansion, I’d guess it took about a year (maybe a bit more), not counting the development of reused assets already existing in the base game.

So GW2 is three years old and the first XP is about to be released. GW1 content updates/expansions halted when it became about three years old, so this is a totally different scenario. Bigger player base and dev staff, living story, all that. The real question is how long can they keep GW2 interesting with living story updates and expansions. Hard to tell, your average MMO doesn’t have much longevity these days before going F2P or being shut down completely. GW2 is surely one of the better MMOs out there, but it won’t be eternal either. As others said, as long as enough money is made, new content will be released.

I’m estimating 2 new expansions until 2018, which is about 2,5 years from now. Three new elite specs max for each class, 2 being released in the expansions and one as a living story major release. I don’t expect any major expansions after 2018.

Anet hates [your class], since [other classes] got buffs while [your class] only received nerfs.

I personally feel they have plans for the dragons in a different way as the road followed with Zhaithan.

I got several reasons.
1: the three orders had different plans with the dragons.
- The order of whispers believe there is no way to physically destroy or negotiate with the Elder Dragons so the only way to counter them is to find a way to send them back to sleep.
- The durmand priory hope that intellect, or some lost piece of knowledge, can save the world from the rise of the dragons.
- The Vigil believe that the Elder Dragons grow more powerful as each day passes, and that those who do not fight now are giving the world away by standing passively aside.

So with the unification of the pact, we followed the Vigil way. We tried that approach with Mordremoth, but we don’t know.

2: a few loose ends from Season 2 of the living world.
- What is the true meaning of the theory of all. It is seen in omadd’s device as well in the ceiling of the arcanium.
- We know that the zephyrites where protecting Glint’s Egg. But why is it so important? We know that dragons can “create” luitenants and champions. We got the shatterer (Glint’s successor), jormag’s claw and Tequatl. So why is that egg so important? Glint was “just” a champion and she got replaced after her destruction. bottom line, there is more to it.
- The ancient secrets burried deep inside the maguuma jungle.

So all in all, I find it a very boring prospect to destroy Mordremoth the “vigil” way. I think in this situation it points mostly towards the durmand way (cause of the ancient secrets).

I think the next dragon (after Mordremoth) will be put asleep the vigil way. By then we know all their secrets and their weaknesses and the remaining 3 will be easy to be stopped. Specially cause it can be combined. That is the moment us heroes can be focussing on other, more important matters elsewhere.

GW2 is running great and has a future that can last many years to come. But I also think there will be a time that we need GW3. I’m positive we got atleast two more expansions to go (more if the release rate is intensified), but after that, the way we play games and epxerience them will yet again be so much evolved, it is time to build GW3

Arise, opressed of Tyria!
