Extremely bad design on new map
If you hate difficulty, you can always get a refund and faceroll core content.

My friend bought the HOT several days ago according to my recommendation and he decide to quit this game already. We tried to unlock the elite specialization by collecting hero points on new map and failed. The two hours we spent only gave us 3 hero points and 20+ times of death. The jumping puzzle like map is trash, so don’t force ppl to play it!
It should be difficult. They’re called “Elite” Specializations… they should take a certain level of skill. If you are not good enough to unlock the content, then you shouldn’t get to unlock the content.
Also, if he quit the game because he couldn’t unlock “Elite” content mere days after starting the game, then that is really, really sad. Sad as in “Pathetic”
Mains — Mathias of the Wood [Ranger]; Collaborator Bluatt [Engineer]
Alts — Necromancer, Warrior, Elementalist
And the elitists show their shortsightedness. Those you label as casuals make up the majority of all multiplayer game populations, thus they push the most cash into the system you’re benefitting from. Watch them leave, and you’ll eventually be shoved out the door in their wake when the company behind the game slams it shut due to insufficient funding coming from the much smaller hardcore crowd.
Lol seriously? The whole point of expanded challenging content is to make it so you can’t unlock everything on launch day. Maybe you guys should go play WoW…
Ikr, the fact that they are the majority is true, It’s just sad and I won’t mind seeing them go personally. They are a blight on nearly every game i have ever played, thinking they should just be handed every little thing. That’s not how life works.

You know you guys LOVE to mock the casuals, but the irony is that if enough of them start quitting over this hero point fiasco, ANET will bend over backwards to get them to stay, INCLUDING changing the HP requirements. And if the hardcores in turn complain ?
Well ANET will have no problems telling you to Kitten off…
LOL dude, you just like kitten it! kitten it too hard!

We’ll see, I doubt it though, it took me a day for dragon hunter, kitten not even 24 hours either.
Being “casual” has nothing to do with difficulty. There’s nothing in this system that pushes away “casuals”
You can easily make progress in even 30 minute play sessions.
These zones simply push away people who are bad at the game and would rather quit than get better
That’s a completely different set of people than “casual” players. There are plenty of “hardcore” players whining just as hard that they can’t press 1 and win a lot of this stuff.

Exactly this.
I am not sure about the quality of whole gw2 community. But the gw2 forum community is in general terrible to new players.
What?! These are the best designed maps in the entire game IMO. I like that there’s a lot of risk in just getting around. Truly feels like you’re exploring a vast, dangerous jungle.
I consider myself casual to not-so-casual, that has played from the start. I played for five hours and had a ball. Tough yes, doable yes.
Do not hate on the devs because you’re paper.
*If you want us to be polite, craft some PVT gear, learn to dodge roll(this has always been the most important feature to learn), like learn when to heal and when to dodge, and be patient.
It’s not a sprint.

I just have to ask, did you complete 3 hero challenges in 2 hours? Because if so that’s 30 points, not 3. If you actually only earned 3 points then I have to assume that you were doing the core hero challenges (which only award 1 point) in which case 2 hours to complete 3 is pretty much terrible….
just keep on hitting your head against the wall, either you’ll bust through, or die trying.
- Anet putting the mordrems in every corners is kinda annoying, and the mordrem charge skill is op.
- i feel like the map has like 5 or 6 layers from heaven to hell is too complex
- the mastery point and hero point require high level mastery in 1st map is frustrated.
I feel like your friend should do some more work in the core game, and then make a more educated call. I have recently brought several of my friends into GW2 who are still pretty new, and even they’ve been at the game 2ish months now, and I still wouldn’t want them to attempt the difficulty of the expansion maps.
I probably would have felt just as frustrated as you and your friend if I had attempted something like Verdant Brink when I was new. I HATED jumping and the like when I started GW2, but after getting more experienced , I really enjoy it. I hope your friend can get to that point too, and give the game another chance. It’s really worth it, IMO!
Nothing wrong with being a casual player, either… imo you can get experienced and knowledgeable enough to excel at the content and really have fun with it even just playing at an easy-going pace. Enjoy & good luck!

Which is why most of us spend time on other forums which remain hidden from the general populace. The people here are A) elitist kittens here to mock and kitten people rather than help. or people come to vent about something they find irritating.
then there is the C) group. People who are sitting at work and want something to read.

As a cary carrying member of C group, I actually refer to these forums as my “whine check” these days.
Everyone who is happy is playing HoT. Everybody who is not is posting. Given the reactions last night from random non-beta people I was doing event chains with, they were having a ton of fun, and pretty much loved it when whole event zergs got wiped by mordrem because they weren’t paying attention.
I heard a lot of “Oh this just got real” and “for the pact” and “We can salvage this clusterf*** guys”
But most importantly, the thing I liked, was that people were really happy when we succeeded because of that difficulty. It’s not often doing core events that people exclaim in joy when they take down a full event chain, because most of the time they just expect it’ll happen. This new stuff, it has difficulty ramps from the beginning to the end of chains, any people have to be on the ball, so there’s a much bigger sense of accomplishment and teamwork. I really liked that. It has been a long time since I felt like the random people around me were my “team” rather than “those things that fly around the screen while I sleep through events”
Time will tell how this content hold up over time, but at least for now even doing the “boring” content like events is tougher and more rewarding, and thus more fun in my opinion.

The two hours we spent only gave us 3 hero points !
How did you do that? Each hero challenge in the new map give you 10 points. You probably accumulate 30 hero points, not 3.
What I hate is that whenever I find something interesting, it ends up being locked behind a mastery of some kind. I cant even get some hero points without tier 4 mastery.

the maps are really bad. cramped railroads leading to nowhere. been playing pvp not even setting foot in new areas.

Um… you can be a casual player and not be bad. Casual != bad player. Stop using that excuse. Trying to circumvent the system by speed running the process to the specialization will result in bad times unless you’re fairly decent at the game. You don’t NEED to get the hero points in HoT.
I was honestly very satisfied with HoT once I saw the patch notes before released, purchased, and I am content with the purchase.
This game was lacking any sort of challenge. I refuse to go back to stack-a-corner-zerker mindlessly killing things.
OP tried to circumvent the rules of the game and got squashed because he wants everything handed to him.
He got what he deserves.

There have been multiple BETA WEEKENDS, not time to complain now, or else give proper feedback. What you’ve written has no value to the devs. Have a nice day.

this isnt a game called “Life”….. its a game for entertainement, not to be built around “REAL LIFE”. Not that im advocating for things to be easier here, just pointing out that if i wanted to play a game based on “Real Life”, I would go play the MMO called secondlife…. not GW2.
Stop shielding yourself behind the term “casual”, you simply want everything handed out on launch day, you don’t have to be “hardcore” or “no-lifer” to enjoy a challenge, there’s plenty of facerolling and “press 1 ’till it dies” in the core game.
I hope A-net continues to increase the difficulty, it’s fun.
(God forbid you have to -pause to take a breath- use strategy! or group up to earn stuff in a multiplayer game, I know I know, how could they?!?)
forum dwellers would go nuts about the need to
“grind” to get exp, new swords, new potions etc
