The new maps are among the most beautiful I’ve seen in any game, let alone MMO.

There is a considerable amount of thought that was placed into each Hero point’s location….and for that I highly commend Anet.

However, some of the champions that you need to kill at these Hero points are simply not solo-able (or even doable with a 2-3 man group). Furthermore, it is incredibly difficult to coordinate a larger amount of people to reach certain Hero points in order to complete them.

I’ve spent quite a bit of effort and reached nearly all of the “remote/hidden” Hero points in the first map, but got absolutely demolished once I activated them.

If these points (or at least the hard to access ones) were made more doable for a 1-3 man group, it would make the Elite leveling system go by much smoother.

This, soo much this… its hard enough that their gated behind masteries, but the mobs that are spawned are WAYY too unforgiving (And given the space between WP, its not really fun to run back and try again knowing you’ll fail)

Me having an almost 10 moth old baby and thus time to seek and commit to a group is always uncertain. Baby goes first, think little dependant human is always more important then a game, but i don’t want to inconvenience others, so I am usually pretty hesitant grouping up, for fear of having to abandon them while we do quests etc. I don’t mind a few deaths due to being afk, but don’t want to do that to others. And the mew maps makes deaths like this very very inconvenient to me as it takes forever to get places and there are not many wp’s handy. And much group events and hard enemies to fight through to even get back. I gotten pretty good at finding safe spots when I need to go quickly. It’s ok but not so much if it’s because i run into group only content all the time.

Having the HP’s (and other character progression) needing a coordinated bigger group, makes is very hard for me to count on getting these done. i hoped atleast open world was something i could solo, as well as the mayority of character progression, even if it was slower going. but it seems almost impossible. Raids and such i already counted on as a loss for me as well there needs to be group content and hard content, and Annet can not and should not change that to accompany my personal situation. But This, just open world, character progression, story and hero points… that should be soloable I think. Now i have to be very lucky with timing to even have a shot at it. Kinda demotivating to play.

I did spend several hours trying to farm some Hero Points, but after some hours of wandering about those overly convoluted maze maps I decided to leave for old Tyria, because I just couldn’t put up with the frustration of finding yet another unsoloable or mastery gated Hero Challenge anymore.

Or… how about take your time ? Make some strategies and tactics, think things through.
Please don’t be like WoW community that cries over some dumb stuff that needs to be nerfed just because they can’t do it right away after xpack is out. I know, I know some of you elitists just all dream of doing every possible piece of content in first few hours then boast about it like a drunk norn

I had a hard time with some points and zones (those darn vet frog shadowleapers are annoying) but as I learned some about mobs that are to be found in new zones I could figure stuff out on my own and solo most of the points.

I also agree 100% … i had my own post written about this, but then i deleted it because i knew somebody else will come up with it.
The problem with this champs is their timer and mainly their HP pool, which is waaaay too much. With my full ascended soldier guardian I did 0% damage to that golem up in the sky. ArenaNet, you obviously overestimated players when you thought they will find it easy/fun to use updrafts…maybe after few weeks, but now some hero challenges are impossible to do. I suggest to change all of them into veterans and make their HP and damage scale from 1 to 5 people. Because otherwise it is a bad joke.

While getting enough people together to do certain hero points is a bit of a drag i really like that there’s some difficult stuff out there that you simply can’t do on your own, and when you finally do it really feels like you’ve earned it.

I love ’em!

Agreed. Hero Point should ALWAYS be soloable, and in fact shouldn’t even really scale up that much, because they are a personal thing, just for you. Only regular events should be for large parties of people.

If they absolutely insist on Champ mobs in Hero Points, then they should only be in the ones that are right in the middle of the path, where the only challenge is whether you can beat the mob. They should NEVER EVER EVER be located in the middle of a jumping puzzle situation, where you have to cross half the map just to reach them.

I’ve been soloing all this new hero challenges so far with my necro. I guess other profs like thieves have harder times, but I dont feel like hero points are not soloable even then. Maybe sometimes you need to tweak your build with some profs, but this is good imo

I’ve soloed a few with my necro, and soloed a few with my Thief, which was harder, but still possible. There are others though that I can’t imagine soloing though, like the Mushroom King and the Arrowhead ones in Auric, or the one with the Hylek up in the cradle-like airship wreck.

I’ve swapped to reaper for the stab on demand in order to do the mushroom, I dunno the others tho, I’ve just completed 5/6 hero challenges I think.

Yeah, I can solo a few on my necro, will undoubtedly do so on my engi, but I am thinking my ranger is going to go squish if I tried.

Regardless, I fully agree on the frustration of all the hero points being champs. Some you can kite, and it is fine… some you kite and then the timer kicks you in the face (even with full sinister). Then there’s the ones that are, doubtful, possible by less than five people but the maps are so dead that is not going to happen. I really do not know what to do at this point… I need four more to unlock the chill-damage on my necro but I am so upset and tired I do not want to look at the game right now

Note, they aren’t ALL Champs, just most of them. I’ve gotten about maybe 15 or so so far, of those several were just “concentrate” nodes (the Thief actually has a huge advantage on those), and at least a few were easily soloed vet mobs.

There is a Griffon, for example, halfway down a cliff on the NW side of VB, that pretty much nobody should have trouble with. There was also a Vet Mordrem rider, and he wasn’t too much trouble, although his fire breath could one-shot my Thief if it hit him, and there are Wasps native to that location that needed to be cleared or otherwise dealt with. My Necro had a much easier time of that one.

The Hylek up in the airship wreckage, we took that guy on with maybe five of us and we were constantly getting downed. He was one of those shadow sniper types, and seemed to have some OHKO tactics. I actually did better than most, and only got downed towards the end, and managed to pull through.

Too many Champs though, too many Champs.

You really need to find a commander tag or guild group to explore the new maps. It’s really the only way to guarantee you will be able to get those hero points.
