I can’t help but feel most players are missing the big picture here about the HoT expansion. From what Anet has revealed that the expansion will be feature rich rather than content rich which is why some of us are trying tho justify it’s price tag is worth it.

I can’t help but feel that Anet took the cheaper and lazy way out with this expansion, I mean whats cheaper adding more features or adding actually content like several maps, quest, dungeons, armor, weapons and classes, etc.

As a person who has been spoiled by the massive expansions from WoW, Final Fantasy, and GW1, I have a high expectations when it comes to expansions content as I don’t want so little content that last like a month or two.

This is the only thing that has been eating me sense the news of HoT, and I will wait patiently until Anet reveals more later on(if they decide to after the out roar from the community) before I can make my final judgement. What do you guys think is more important to an expansion, features, content, or both and please keep your comments constructive.

That is most certainly true since that is something Anet themselves have also said.

To be honest, I’m not sure. I’m no game developer and have no idea how long it takes to develop either features or content. And I think the same is true for most people on this forum. What I do know is that while it takes a long time to develop a certain system (say, the dynamic events system or the upcoming adventure system or the specialization system) that is then relatively easy to add content to such a system.

As a person who has been spoiled by the massive expansions from WoW, Final Fantasy, and GW1, I have a high expectations when it comes to expansions content as I don’t want so little content that last like a month or two.

Agreed. However features can make gameplay more enjoyable and repeatable, even if they are not content in the strict sense of the word. In addition, things like the size of maps and the number of maps are not directly related the hours of enjoyment you get out of it. Maps can be large and barren or small and content-packed (personally, I’m hoping for something in between).

This is the only thing that has been eating me sense the news of HoT, and I will wait patiently until Anet reveals more later on(if they decide to after the out roar from the community) before I can make my final judgement.

A very sensible position.

As I pointed out above it’s not very black and white. It also comes down to company resources. Of course I want as many features and as much content for as low a price as possible (as would any consumer). However Anet is a company who wants to make a profit and which has a limited number of people working on features and a limited number of people working on content. I can imagine that it would also be relatively difficult for Anet to simply shift some developers around to focus more on content or to focus more on features (since those take different skills and thus different developers).

I’m not sure what point I’m making besides: It’s complicated.

I rather have features than more content that likely will never touch.

WoW’s Cata expansion is something close to what you are talking about regarding an expansion that was mostly content and little to no features and it had a major drop off in population.

More Features are more fun for me. I want Guild Building for Personal Housing honestly.,

That’s the way ANet goes.
All the different features should make sure that the bit less content always feels different from each other and is more fun to replay as such.

And I’d rather have 9 different maps than 20 that are all the same…but people are only looking for numbers unfortunatly.

And for example I don’t want to know how many hours it took them to develop the glider system with all it’s physics and stuff to an engine that wasn’t even designed for 3d usage. It’s a feature that took a lot of effort and that will hopefully deliver lots of fun in the future and will be used much more often. (ArcheAge style glider wars? Just sayin…)
But it took some time…and that may have to be compensated with a bit less content.

unfortunately “features” is a buzz word.

an off button is a feature, tires on a car are a feature…. shiny windows is a feature….a suntan is a feature.

I just wish they released the release date, a list of all what the expansion will include and more details on the beta week end thing if you pre-purchase…unless anyone knows where there is more info on that. I was on the fence but I feel it is reasonable since GW2 isn’t pay to play they can’t create more content out of thing air they need to get paid which I understand 49.99 tho when you go to pre purchase is in USD and i’m in Canada that’s 61.65$ (I forgave them for the added char slot but now this is ridiculous) if you want to advertise it at 50$ make it so all around for any country

I was happy for a moment, but now i’m back on the fence because someone with a trigger finger reminded me of things i’ve grown to really dislike.

i was actually just thinking about this, with the new specializations release. Having nice features is cool, but ultimately it comes down to having interesting things to do. They got the new specs, and i cant really make myself care, because there is nothing new to do with the specs.

Soo the expansion is going to come down to what new things to do are there?

and i also am thinking they have to let go of this core world mentality, i like that i can still get some joy out of old zones, but there needs to be a lot more new and exciting in this game soon, content is 3 years old, and most of it wasnt that deep to begin with.

I agree. Big reason I won’t be buying the HoT "Expansion. Not worth the money.

And they all equal= Worth. No information/ Intentionally hiding information+Not Enough Information= Not Worth It.

Would you make a commitment or sign a contract without having all the information?

Would you make a commitment or sign a contract if the information refuses to give you all the detail or the information intentionally hide/withold’ itself from giving you all the details?

Do you still find that funny?

Look up the definition of Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices

That is all.

Don’t know whats so hard to understand about that. Both groups think the amount of content we’ll get doesn’t warrant kitten price tag, they just phrase it differently.
Yes, we have seen very little but based on the amount of content ANet has put out since release it’s save to assume -at least for me- HoT will be pretty lacking in that regard. Maybe I’m wrong; we can only hope.
