@Nate: for that i would wish a true death match queue with courtyard and new maps. No respawn, just like the random/team arena in guild wars 1

Stronghold is very different from the PvP we actually know, but it is so much fun! The map is perfectly designed and I love its simetry. I played a few games, but did not encounter any bug or inconsistency. Does that mean HoT is comming soon…? :p No, but in all seriousness, I instantly loved the map despite the fact that I am not a big PvP player, so that must show some good quality, right…? I don’t know why, but games seemed balanced and the strategy was fun to elaborate, AND it felt every player was very important to the team! Because in the actual PvP, even though it is fun to play, sometimes it feels only four to six of the ten players are actually playing and important; the others can just freely roam or just give lots of points to the other team by dying without a clear purpose in mind at every corner of the map. However, in Stronghold, it felt like everyone had one or multiple purposes, and every person made a difference. That is maybe the aspect most of the people liked the most, even though not everyone knows how to express it. Anyway, it was very fun and I am looking forward to be playing that again!

Just a remark on the eight player thing, that I saw a lot in the chat or even on the forums: the map is clearly designed for five players; if you added more people (and to achieve eight players per team, it would add six more players to the game), everything would just be a mess and strategy would then become quite pointless, because of a never resting game – players would just be everywhere, no safe spot, and more than anything, that would take away this feeling of “every player makes the difference”. At best, every team would form a zerg and go strait forward without thinking; this is harder to do with only five people, especially on a map like this one. For a map to contain eight players, it must be bigger and with more things to do so that it can be viable and fun to play. But hey, this is only my opinion after all…

For me SH are kinda fail atm, to much focus on killing NPC, not PvP fight.
NPC should not take any dmg from player, in that way role of a player would be escort NPC’s , support them and fight for supplies with enemy players. Let AI fight each other.
Currently strongholds is all about spawning skritts, escort them to gates and from that point zerg lord’s room. You don’t need treb, archers, hero. Its all useless.

I had an idea. What if instead of increasing the NPC health and damage with straight upgrades in stats,
What if their AI were increased to be more tactical during fights with players. That would make them much harder to fight.

Make them able to dodge player attacks, and CC players when players are using major attacks.
Make them block certain major attacks from players.

This could make for some interesting fights.

There’s a reason why people preferred using AI interrupter henchmen in GW1; it was this exact solution you’re giving here. If a computer is allowed to react to “major” abilities from the player; hey will do so correctly 100% of the time and players won’t be really able to get those abilities off or they’ll use those abilities ot cheese the system.

That’s the point. They would be harder to kill 1v1 but still same paper skin as current when outnumbered.

Stronghold was great.

So much better than the same old conquest every time.

And there has been plenty of articles/videos covering how to play Stronghold.
What do you expect? Some kind of tutorial ingame? By that logic they should add tutorials for everything. Crafting, mystic forging, dungeons, conquest, WvW, everything!

No one is forcing you to play it.

I really liked Stronghold. I did quickly find out that people don’t think things out very well….It will take working together and strategic thinking at best. In time it will come down to those who want and like to do more than just killing the other player. I saw people not doing what they should have been doing to win and just going after other players randomly. But the concept is good. I look forward to playing more of it.
