Just a bit of feedback from my experiences thus far in Heart of Thorns.

I’m finding that the sheer density of the mobs in the new maps combined with their extreme lethality (I used to engage mobs for kicks in the core game, now every single encounter even with a basic mob could mean my death) and fast respawn timers makes exploration far less enjoyable.

I love the new maps; I love their vertical nature, the fact that you have to really think about how to get around, and using the glider to figure out funky ways of getting about. Unfortunately I feel constantly pressured to keep moving, don’t stop, don’t even try to look around and get my bearings because there are deadly enemies everywhere, and if there aren’t it probably means they will be respawning in about six seconds.

This has made exploration far less enjoyable in the new maps. I don’t like to be pressured, I don’t like to be rushed, I like to take my time and poke into all the nooks and crannies, but it has become too frustrating to do that in Maguuma. Now I just find a commander tag and follow the zerg like everyone else, which gets real old real quick. It’s not fun. Overall I like the expansion, but this is just one of many disappointing things that makes it a worse experience than the core game was at launch.

This is probably my biggest concern. I really enjoy the maps and overall the enemies are ok in their design. But combined with fighting 2-3 at a time and the need to be mobile and dodge a lot and the respawns it can be quite frustrating.

If you aren’t following a handful of people to assist. It can be quite a chore to get somewhere by yourself.

I like exploring and running around finding interesting places on my own. But it is definitely a nightmare to go into a lot of areas alone.

Edit: It it reminscent of 2012 launch Cursed Shore. I never had any complaints of launch Cursed Shore. Sure getting immobilized every 5 feet was annoying. But I’m not one that likes to run by enemies. I do stop and kill them on the way. But that method seems to bite me in the kitten a lot in HoT.

I disagree, the mob density isn’t quite enough in some areas…I really shouldn’t be able to just run through any of the maps without having to kill anything…and at this stage I can do that.

It’s just like what they did with Cursed Shore after launch, only they did it before players complained. I actually preferred the original Cursed Shore where you couldn’t take two steps without being mobbed, it felt like you were on Zhaitans door step, but when the did the mob culling it felt deserted.

I should not be able to run through those zones without getting harangued by enemies, especially in HoT. They actually need to increase the mob density a bit, imo…and I’m technically a casual player(not based on time played, based on play style).

Of course everyone has their own opinion and should be allowed to express it, I’m just expressing mine as the opposite of yours.
