Finally, some Stronghold information
wait so how many players per team?
wait so how many players per team?
They’re currently testing it with 5 vs 5 but they haven’t finalized the number yet.

Only 5, just like every other PvP competition. At least, nothing’s been demonstrated to the contrary.
I only skimmed the article, but I did notice one thing: they seem to be only deploying one stronghold map. I don’t PvP myself, and this wasn’t about to change my mind, but I was still sort of expecting more than one. Maybe they’re just going to be spacing them out evenly, seeing how people respond to this one before giving others for people to try.
am i the only 1 that thought Dota when he read the article i mean its not in a 1:1 ratio but i see some similarities
Next Guild Halls, Specializations…………….
Revenant. Long road there

Not Dota, but Heroes of the Storm, because of the 2 lanes instead of 3
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Looks fun to me! will for sure be watching the stream tommorow for sure!
Honestly, I don’t see this working with less than 3×3 people but 5×5 does seem to be an ideal small group for this kind of map. Given the mechanics described though, it would appear to be very tolerant of scaling up to 10v10. More than that and I think the map might start feeling crowded.
I’m kinda curious if things like Treb mastery from WvW would have any role on this map. I’m kinda thinking no because one of the stated goals of PVP in GW2 is for everyone to be on a level field mechanically. However, like in other MOBA style games it might be interesting to allow leveling a particular skill inside of a match. This would tie into their meta strategy concepts they were talking about. If eSports is a goal then increasing the meta for a game in such a way might be important.

My guess is that Guild Halls are next, but that Revenant will be before Specializations. For one, they have confirmed that Revenant will be playable at Pax East. Second, I’m guessing their start with Revenant reveal, then do all other profession Specializations (each with their own blog) and finish with Revenant’s Specialization.

Furthermore, I distinctly remembered that something Revenant related would be mentioned in tomorrow’s Ready Up.
Ok, so I was hugely psyched about Stronghold, up until watching the Ready Up. It isn’t the gameplay that has turned me off, but one simple statement. Stronghold won’t have its own queue, it will share the queue with the current Conquest mode. This means that if I want to play Stronghold, I can’t without taking a very large chance to get into a match I don’t want to play (many more Conquest maps than Stronghold maps).
Anet, please reconsider. This has taken my excitement level down quite a few notches. I don’t like conquest, but used to love the GvG in GW1, which it seems Stronghold is largely based on. In the end, if it isn’t separated out, I’ll likely simply not play it. I suspect a lot of people are like me and some may even play, but just quit or AFK if they don’t get the Stronghold match they wanted.

Yes, I opened a topic about it, share it “Anet : When will you learn your lesson ?” !

I saw that after posting this. Though to be fair, this topic on Strongholds was opened days before the one you opened.
So, this is what I understand about Stronghold:
Another PvP map that combine many annoying features of other PvP maps with:
- Trebs similar to Battle of Kyhlo
- Lords and Gates like what we have Legacy of the Foefire
- Buffs that give advantage like Temple of the Silent Storm
- Supply run like Orb run in Spirit Watch
- NPC that give buff … remind Forest of Niflhel
- And walking Skitts like walking Yak in WvW …
…. not surprise if Stronghold will have a skyhammer or some kind of holes, or a river in the middle of the map and some pirate canons to bring Raid on the Capricorn back.
Is that correct?
The gamemode looks interesting for me, but people want something to be serious and competitive about, and if it just gets thrown into rng and queue with same as conquest the competitive value is lost a lot already.
A lot of people want to make a team for stronghold, not for conquest, really hope anet adds separate queue
