Fix DS already...
I think that happens if at some point over the 2h lifetime of the map the “move to a more populated version” pops up, but the map still get’s going a bit later. Only happened to me in Verdant Brink once. The “move to another map” popup appeared, I ignored it, and it disappeared a while later. Still, all of a sudden, loading screen and the map apparently closed, because I was in another instance.
As for DS, it really only works via taxis. I’m not thrilled about the way it works, too, but it’s the way it is. After the maps reset, just open LFG and join a taxi to get to a map that starts right away. I have never had one of these maps close prematurely and, to be honest, it’s a lot of fun to join one of the “taxi maps” since they are always full once the fun starts.
Yes, there is a bit of time planning involved. But it’s still rather casual, no further obligations.
It’s a mechanism in the game to funnel people to PVP. Working as intended.
And in PvP there’s a mechanism that funnels ppl’s fingers towards the alt+f4 keys.
I haven’t had a problem with DS even with 1 minute on timer after towers (it was stressful). Then again I have been do one PvP stuff past week.
I understand the frustration, but at least you still got all the loot and exp from escorts and towers.
These freakin’ buggs happen everywhere. Just for kicks, this is what Thaumanova looks like after you killed the boss but didn’t get any credit or loot.
This isn’t just a DS problem, but a Mega-server problem that can happen on any map (although only noticed on meta maps). The entire mega-server system seems to be very outdated for the direction the game is going in and a fix might not be quick and easy. I do hope they are actually working on it though…
There will be gem store item:
Vial of awesomeness :“You feel awesome everywhere you go – you can’t be kicked from party, raid group, map or dc’ed from the game”
Buy exclusive for only 3000 gems. Available only for 3 days. Buy it folks.
yes it is annoying that their obviously not well functioning system to make players leave maps that are obviously not empty
players often taxi many people in AFTER that map change offer has been made and the contdown to close the map is already active
that system needs a change so it stops that countdown if enough players come on the map again!
or at least increase it to 2 hours countdown so there is always enough time for DS meta…

Stop complaining about the gem store like it has anything to do with the developers that design the game. It shows how little you know of how companies work.
First of all its not the same team that’s working on megaserver problem that is in charge for the gemstore updates.
Secondly, if you don’t like gem store cosmetics, DONT buy them. It’s cosmetic stuff for players who either have a huge amount of gold or real life money and nothing more to spend to. They do not offer any kind of pay to win items or anything that affects gameplay. Again stop complaining for the sake of complaining…
To the point, yes there some problems with populated (full) maps that appeared right after HoT release. I have been crashing minutes before completing the whole event on either DS, Tec, Triple Trouble and it’s annoying.
This is a reply from reddit (not mine):
If you are getting crashes during events with massive amounts of players around try either turning high resolution character textures off(requires map change before event) or turn character model limit way down. Crashing like this during events is most likely the game’s fault since it is a 32 bit program it has a memory limit of just under 4gb. With the massive amount of players and character textures that have to be held in memory during large events it is easy to go over this limit. Unfortunately gw2 doesn’t detect if it will go over this limit before it crashes. Give this fix a try and see if it works.
I personally downloaded the 64bit beta client and currently running with it. Have not played much since so when I do a DS/Tec etc event I’ll let you know about the results.
I was on that particular map. I really think anet should turn off the mapclosing function until it is working properly, because now, it’s causing more trouble than that it’s fixing.
