I get it, I suck. I’m old. My sore hands can’t do jumping puzzles. I suck at raids. I hate fractals… and so on… and so on….

…but should I really be punished with an exp bar that flashes every time I kill a mob? I need 56 HoT points, and god only knows how many from tyria…. and I’m never going to have them….

…so for the love of god turn off that big, yellow, flashing exp bar!

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

Is it flashing because you don’t have any points to spend in it? If that’s the case you can put it to work on another mastery and just come back and accept the mastery when you have the points.

Edit: I’m with you on the JP’s btw. But GW2 has always been somewhat founded on having to do a bunch of stuff you hate to gain achievements.

I’ve maxed out the exp for all the things I can train. It flashes because it’s full, and it’s a reminder….

…but I have no point to train with, and the ones I can still earn are crazy hard to get. Triple Trouble being the easiest ones… LOL.

I’m fine with knowing that I will never be able to craft one of the HoT legendaries, as they all require maxed mini games, jumping puzzles. yada yada…

….but the exp bar, flashing at me, might as well be chanting “loser, loser, loser” all day long.

That’s going to happen to a lot of people. I don’t have enough to complete the Tyrian masteries so when I hit the end of the current mastery line, that will be it for that since I don’t have the points to assign to it. I doubt very much I’ll get the high level mastery points in HoT. I’ll be able to switch to different mastery lines for a while to at least fill them up but eventually they will be filled up and not enough points to place.

I’m not going to worry about it. I’m getting the lines I need done and the rest can have the mastery points, or not. If I’m not going to do stuff like fight HoT champs or whatever then what do I care? I may eventually get those points, and I may not. I certainly wouldn’t consider myself or anyone else a loser for not getting them all.

Be careful what you ask for

For what it is worth, I feel with you Ezeriel.

I will be out of mastery points as I am unable to do the mini games and some of the other achievements. I join you on the “looser, loser, loser” all day long.

I’ve been meaning to make my own thread about these issues but may as well post them here since it’s relevant to what i have to say.

There are lot of annoying UI elements added with NPE but especially with HoT. What i hate is that often, i can’t find my mouse pointer and i sometimes click on the exp bar by accident. Before HoT, it wouldn’t have mattered, it didn’t do anything except perhaps shown u the amount of exp to the next lvl etc. But now, if u touch that bar anywhere with ur mouse, it suddenly pops up this huge mastery window in my face that covers most of my screen. This usually tends to happen while in combat so i then have to frantically fumble with it to close it. The mastery window is way too big and the exp bar should be locked as it always was. Perhaps instead of the exp bar triggering the mastery window to open, you could instead create a little icon in the upper left screen like the traits icon to open it? Frankly i’m surprised this wasn’t implemented this way in the first place, sine we already have the traits icon residing there.

I don’t so much mind the dangly chest we get as rewards, but the sheer number of them and the non-stop jingle they make until u accept them is terribly irritating. Oftentimes when they pop up, we are fighting and don’t have time to accept them right away, but they keep annoying u with that jingle, taking ur attention away from combat. Perhaps if they jingled only every few minutes it would be more acceptable?

In HoT, they’ve gone to another lvl with head-shaking stuff. You get the dangly chests with all of the idiosyncrasies as above, but when u try to accept a chest in HoT, this new mini window that tracks meta event progress pops up, blocking u from accepting it. This window literally overlaps those chests almost entirely and it keeps opening each time u attempt to accept a chest. So unless u click precisely the outer right edge of a chest, this window will not let u accept it. This pop up window is way too big and needs to be reduced so it doesn’t encroach on the chests at all.

Also, if u try to place or hover ur mouse close to the upper edge of the mini map to say read/id, or link something, this meta tracking window pops up again instead, preventing you from doing so, or at least, making it very difficult to do so. So it’s not only too big, but it’s too attached to the mini map and there needs to be a separation. Maybe a little interactive icon similar to those in the upper left corner of the screen that u can click and check on meta progress would be less obtrusive and interfering with other UI elements as it currently does.

A note on NPE. One thing i have really disliked they added in the NPE was the dings for the heart quests. There are lot of hearts that overlap and if u make one step to the right, u get a ding for one heart, step to the left and u get a 2nd ding and if u stand in between those two points the dings go spastic. All these system are well intended i think, but poorly implemented. We’re not children. It’s good enough to get one ding to id the heart, no need to keep ringing a bell in our ears. I think it would be more helpful and more in line with other activities in gw2 such as events, to create a heart-shaped parameter of some distinct colour that identifies the heart quest limits, rather than these dings going off making u feel more annoyed than informed.

I could go on, such as the ridiculous number of variety of these pop up chest that u constantly have to accept. Just in HoT, there must be a dozen or more different chests that keep popping up. Why? I keep asking myself. It really is all pointless in the end. TBH i’ve never been so nonchalant to receive loot in any other game as i am in gw2. if getting these chest stirred any emotion in me, it would be annoyance, rather than anything else. Frankly, i would rather get fraction of these chests but when i do get one it actually holds something worthwhile, like 10 linen scraps or w/ever instead of 10 porous bones and rest ruining my hands salvaging.

I’m going to be in a very similar situation very shortly, there are one maybe two more mastery points in the core areas that I am likely to get and the rest are either tied to things i’m not interested in (like how many points tied to fractals, even the spoon collection needs fractals) or not likely to be able to do. When I finish the track I’m on now that will be it assuming I can get another mastery point to finish it.

They really need to find another way of giving out mastery points, maybe make it an option for the final daily log in reward. or a way to buy them with karma or something.

I also which they would get rid of the flashing reminders on everything. I’m in the middle of a fight and I have hearts and level up reminders flashing away, on the revenant, the utility and particularly the elite skill are flashing away as I don’t have the hero points to buy the skills. It really is annoying and an option to turn off flashing reminders would be welcome.

My experience says otherwise. You can’t click on the bar to open Mastery windows if you’re in combat. You have to be out of combat to do that. I noticed this because the bar was full a few times for me during combat and I tried to click on it to learn mastery but couldn’t. Had to be out of combat.

I’ve only been playing for 3 months so I understand the HoT content probably isn’t something I’m up to tackling. So I’m trying to level central Tyria masteries but now I’m maxed out on xp and don’t have enough points so all I’m doing now is wasting xp.

Trying to do TT is the most reasonable option to get a couple points so I can continue with the crafting mastery but my attempts have been washes so far. I find the result of this bottleneck is me wanting to play less and less. I don’t really feel like doing story stuff on races I don’t really like and I’m not sure what else to do.

One thing I have been wondering… People who don’t have the HoT expansion still get to acrue Spirit Shards after level 80 by earning experience. Why not make it an option? Either to gain experience for your masteries, or to gain experience to earn Spirit Shards?

This way nobody will be annoyed by the flashing experience bar when we have enough experience for all masteries but not the points.

You have it backwards. The problem here isn’t gaining experience but lack of Mastery points to assign to bars that have been filled up with experience. A bar that is experience completed but has no mastery points to assign to it is the one flashing.

My understanding is that spirit shards stopped dropping from filling the exp bar a couple of months before HoT was released. I don’t recall precisely, but I believe it was around the time that we started getting spirit shards for completing dailies.

Some mastery points in HoT aren’t so hard to get, but I am also stuck on that now. I find the Dulfy guides helpful, for example:

Reread what you quoted.

Also, yes, a selectable, repeatable “spirit shard” pseudomastery track would solve that problem – and additionally would be useful for people that have already acquired all masteries.

Yeah, ok. I misread it.

However, if they’ve balanced the incoming number of spirit shards for a certain number coming in over the whole game, then adding more one way means that they will nerf the current 3 shards for each completed daily or the numbers that you get from drops to keep the overall numbers the same. Which would mean that people who don’t chose the “spirit bar” one will get less total from their dailies or from drops. (And no, I don’t see them putting in a system that dynamically changes dailies or drop rates depending on how your exp bar is set up).

Be careful what you ask for. ANet may give it to you.

They couldn’t, since it works exactly like that for anyone without HoT already. And you still can get spirit shards from tomes, drops etc, which is not balanced across gamemodes at all (for example you get spirit shards, by the way of tomes, much faster in spvp than in other modes).

Sorry for having it backwards!

Anywho, I thought of it as a simple solution for the flashing bar ánd a way to not feel like all future experience is wasted. Accounts without HoT still get Spirit Shards after all by filling the experience bar, so I don’t see Arenanet balancing any shards out if they allowed that option into the game.

They shouldn’t be addressed because they aren’t real problems.

1 – Clicking on the exp bar doesn’t open the hero panel during combat anyway. So either OP is mistaken or he is just flat out lying. I just tested it again 5 minutes ago.

2 – There isn’t enough UI clutter in this game to lose your mouse pointer in. That is on him, not on ANet anyway.

3 – With the chests. Again this is 100% purely on OP here. ANet isn’t making him look at the chest. They aren’t making the chests annoy or distract him. Its all his personal choice to be so kitten bothered by it. Its really not even that big of a deal. I just fought the wyvern patriarch for 10 minutes with 2 of those chests dangling there. Its not a problem, they don’t cover up anything important and they certainly don’t distract from the fight. OP is just looking for stuff to complain about.

4 – Again this is entirely OP’s own fault. The meta event participation window only opens if you scroll your mouse over the really tiny circle in the top right corner of the minimap. Literally come at the chests from any direction that doesn’t involve crossing this circle that is 1/20 the size of the chests and the window won’t pop up. Its not ANet’s fault that OP can seemingly only run his mouse through 1 specific route through his screen, if he can even find it.

5 – Again, only in the upper right hand corner does it even pop up at all. Not the entire upper edge.

I can’t take this guy seriously considering most of the problems he listed aren’t even really problems, or don’t even exist.
