For you people that got into the beta, remember that there is more to it than just getting to play Revenant, Like try to break the game, go outside the norms, find the little bugs and issues, test if you can get to places, pay attention to things going on.

The more bugs Beta Testers find and report, the more of a bug free release of HoT we are getting.

I doubt there will be many bugs to find. I feel like the only things they won’t have already found with in-house testing will be related to the number of players. As many others have said, public betas are mostly just marketing stunts now.

Well as developer myself i know how easy it is to overlook small things, If there aren’t any bugs then kudos to Anet, but we shouldn’t stop looking for them.

Yeah, true. It just seems that public betas are not really for the purpose of finding bugs, other than those that can only be discovered by the introduction of more players. If you want to find bugs, you pay people to do it, because it takes many hours of careful experimentation to exhaustively test a system, which can’t exactly be substituted with many players experiencing the same content for a short time.

That is true, Hired beta testers is the way to go, but public betas aint bad as well, and i do feel that the public test is more of a “Heres a sneak preview” kind of thing, i do encourage people to try and find this unexpected glitches so they can be done away with if they exist.

There are HoT bugs already in the game (construct hitboxes for name one).

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel trying to break out of a map into areas you shouldn’t be in in a beta is rather rude. Finding bugs is one thing but going through areas they are still working on isn’t really polite. By all means though if the map is fully finished it would be a different story.

I’ll be giving feedback on everything (although mainly the Revenant) just like when I was in the stress test.

Breaking out of the map is basically finding holes which you can report and they can fix, it’s not rude, but constructive.

More or less talking about some of the… let’s call them sneak peaks we had from the Verdant Brink stress test. People broken through the restricted areas for the sole purpose of seeing the area. That is what I would consider rude.

By all means if the map is considered finished it would be a different story.

Because leaving them there to be discovered after release would be polite?

Man, stop worrying about feelings, the point is to go in and screw with everything you can, do stuff, find stuff, give feedback. No one likes it when someone goes “you missed a spot” but if you want a good product its’ a necessity for that to happen.

I feel like people in this thread don’t understand the point of Beta’s.

Andred, you have QA teams with testers, but a player and a paid player with a worksheet to fill out are going to approach the thing differently. Their QA team is going to miss things because they’re approach is more structured, while players just going in and screwing around are just going to randomly find little bits and pieces here and there that just don’t quite work right, or even perhaps work right but just simply suck and worth taking a second look at.

we are always public beta testing the game, lol. That why every day new bugs are found, and new bugs are fix. Just playing normal has it that way too, lol/

I have the feeling not everyone is getting my point. In the stress test there was an area very specifically cut off with borders which wouldn’t be there after release. People looked for ways to break out of the map just to see those specific areas.

Anyway I’m going to drop it here. This doesn’t seem to be all too constructive.

I kind of get your point where some of the “testers” would spend the entire time just trying to break out of the testing area and not find any more important bugs, and also that it would be a waste of time to break out since the borders would be removed in the full expansion.

But one big aspect of the game is clipping. If a model that exists in the testing area is able to be ‘ghosted’ through, or jumped over when you’re clearly not meant to, then it will exist in the expansion as well and possibly cause trouble.

Sadly most of the people who get into the beta will just use it as bragging rights that they get to play revenant before others while those who dont get into beta are mad because they are self entitled and think they should get into anything Anet does for the game because they think they are awesome or something. After this event is over most of us sane people, in beta or not, will just sit in our chairs, and watch a live stream of it while reading and laughing at forum posts made by the moronic self entitled ones.

There’s going to be bugs, they can’t test for every eventuality.
