Lol, this thread is basically what I was kittening about earlier today. I read a few posts about people claiming with complete determination that each class was getting one specialization and no new weapons and I just thought to myself…these things were casually mentioned over at PAX? How on earth could anyone actually know without any official statements, oh right – they don’t.
I’ll wait until the official announcements, but I’m 100% certain I won’t be disappointed. Even if it is smaller than expected, they’re delivering what I’ve been asking for a year now.

Ironically, those two things you just mentioned are objective facts that were already stated by ANet themselves.

There has been official mention. There WILL be one specialization per class and no new weapons will be introduced to the game.

Where? It was casually mentioned at PAX and they’ve made no official announcements. You’re a bullkitten artist.

Um, are you unaware of things called interviews? They made their announcement, then they had interviews with MANY different groups. You are incapable of learning all there is to know from the “News” section. They have officially stated both of those things. These forums are inundated with links and quotes directly from them.
For that matter, what does casually mentioned mean? If a Dev says it, it’s a fact. It doesn’t matter where or when they say it. A quote is a quote.

Looking back at pre-release of GW2, we sometimes had these semi-casual interviews with devs at conventions that weren’t entirely accurate. Never were there any outright falsehoods, but things didn’t always come true the way people thought they would.
Just to illustrate what I mean: a dev saying “this skill will do 2k base damage” vs “this skill will do a lot of damage”. These are very different things, one of them precise, while the other is highly interpretive and very context sensitive.
We’ve heard about how strict Arena Net is with their blogs, there’s a lengthy editing process any official information about the game that they write for the website has to go through. There are many good reasons for this, off the cuff semi-casual interviews that give misleading or misunderstood answers to questions being prime amongst them.
All this to say yeah, if a dev says it, it’s typically fact. But take it with a grain of salt, because it might not mean what you think it does.
While I believe there will be only one specialization and no new weapons, I must agree with Arewn. Take what they say in interviews with a grain of salt. Lord knows, they didn’t stick to a lot of those previous statements. At all. Misleading or otherwise.
It’s a reason for the silence earlier this year.
