Forums? ...or complaint department?
Welcome to every game forum, ever. 80% of forum threads are complaints of some form.
But again, Guild Wars 2 whole vision was to reset the standard, and I guess it would be nice to see that implemented here in the community and the forums too. But maybe that’s just me being critical too…’
Its just disappointing to me to see posts that literally serve no purpose to complain, and in some cases even respond to people trying to be positive with chastising remarks of “don’t get your hopes up.” I just feel like we can be better than this. That’s all.
But point taken.
Dunno, feels a lot better than it used to be tbh or at least on par.
Forums are places many ppl like to vent and say things they wouldn’t necs say to a group/persons face since the keyboard and anonymity empowers them.
Just keep staying positive and/or constructive and let others do what they will. Or else the below becomes your life
haha well said Randulf, well said.

Game forums have and will always be like this. Those that want to see the game change in a meaningful direction often complain to voice their opinion; some wil give suggestions, but generally most don’t.
It is a natural human reaction and most developers know this and take the official forums with a grain of salt. At least if you are taking the time to complain you generally want to continue playing.
So basically this is a “shut up, Rangers” thread lol
Encourage them to maybe slightly alter their build to help compensate as much as possible.
Hahahahaha

Not at all! I just want to point out that there are other ways to handle difficulties with any class you play, other than complain beyond helpfulness, and encourage others to complain with you. To quote from a great movie:
“You either die a Hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.”
Where would Warhammer Online be today had they listened to complaints?
Remove complaints from forum, would Warhammer Online have lasted longer and shorter?
Real question
It’s rare that people even seek help in General Discussion or in the HoT sub-forum. For help, there’s Players Helping Players and the Profession forums. The general sub-forums are the catch-all, which often means they do catch complaints.
Pro-Tip: Most complaints are made by players who want the game to be better — for them. Some of the complaints, if addressed, would improve the game for a lot of folks.
tbh I don’t know as I never really got into Warhammer Online.
Also, im not saying people shouldn’t make suggestions, or report bugs or glitchs, or make observations of balance issues based on their experience. But that’s a lot different than complaining. Just trying to clarify.
But I wouldn’t know about Warhammer Online sorry :/

But again theres a difference between complaining and reporting/suggesting/observing. You can still find work-arounds and enjoy your game without encourage the disheartening of other players. Just my opinion.
Welcome to every forum ever in the entire history of the internet, unfortunately.

It’s human nature.
We’re more likely to vocalize our opinion on a product or service if we dislike it.
We don’t go find a place to vocalize our enjoyment because we’re enjoying the product.
Eh… as nice as it would be, I would rather have people be negative and passionate about something then saying nothing.
You know you fail as a developer if nothing is ever said.
If nothing negative is ever said, it means that the community doesn’t care about your work or you are Jesus and found a way to make everything perfect all the time.
Side note, I love how Rangers are being targeted for the QQ when other classes have been just as toxic if not worse. The forums aren’t really that bad… it’s to be expected when a group of people feel as if they are neglected.
There is no denying, that Ranger has been in a rather interesting state to say the least… this adds fuel to the fire and makes people wonder why the long wait for Druid.
To be fair though, Engineers were on the same “QQ Boat” as Rangers last week. I’m more than confident if Druid was announced this week, Engineers would be complaining that ANET doesn’t like them and they are neglected.
So lets not pin this issue on one class please.

I think the real issue is lack of communication. It’s perfectly acceptable for people to comment on a game on the game’s own forums. What else are you going to do? People play [insert class here]. People comment about [insert class here]. Developers don’t respond to comments. People expect a response that doesn’t come. This goes on for a long time. I understand people who are feeling unsatisfied. No one likes being in a one-sided relationship.
Not happy? Say so, Happy? Keep playing the game.
I don’t see why this can’t be a place to voice opinions and concerns, the alternative is enjoying the product and playing it. It seems that logically, those who are least satisfied would be the ones here not playing the game no?
At least people still care enough to come here and voice an opinion, the alternative to that is taking your dissatisfaction elsewhere i.e. your business / money elsewhere.
You are no different than them. You post complains about the people who complain the game
This post has changed my life. I used to be disgruntled about the three years worth of bugs that haven’t been touched and the fact that our elite specialisation will get a third of the time that other specs got for broad player testing and iteration. But now I’ve come to love, and even cherish the neglect from out benevolent overlords. I was unaware that my desire to not have a hamstrung profession was so damaging to you. I am deeply and sincerely sorry that you have been forced, possibly at gunpoint, to read comments from players who want to improve their profession and have been completely ignored.
Now though, I know that I should just embrace the unique “features” of my profession. Why shouldn’t 30% of my damage be tied to a profession gimmick with terrible AI, pathfinding and which I have minimal control over? Why shouldn’t my sword auto-attack either pin me to a target like glue or send me flying off in a random direction like I’d just been shot out of a cannon? I used to think this was an annoying bug that nobody should have to deal with. But now? Gosh, I just see that as an opportunity for adventure! And the mystery! Will this be the combat that launches me off a cliff to my death? Where will I fly off to next? Oh boy, I can hardly withstand the suspense.
And I now realise that my profession presents other unique opportunities. I used to main the shortbow until it was nerfed into the ground because it was making longbow look terrible in comparison. Now, however, I see that the shortbow is actually an opportunity to challenge myself. Who needs to do a reasonable degree of damage in combat anyway? Truly the shortbow is just Guild Wars 2’s equivalent to Hard Mode.
Truly, with the power of positivity you can just ignore everything that actually needs to be fixed. And it’s not just in the game that this new outlook can be applied. I was going to see the doctor today about this nasty cough I’ve been having, but I now see that actually speaking out about problems and trying to get them remedied is unnecessary when you have the power of smiles!
Typically a satisfied gamer is playing the game, having a good time. They don’t log on to a forum to say “hi, i am having such a great time”.
On the other hand people who feel like the game they are playing is buggy, full of cheaters, etc. or they have been killed by the 123rd guy using the same build that everyone knows is brokenly OP; these people are more likely to look for a way to fix what they think is wrong.
So they turn to the forums, write posts as a vent or if they are new, they still hope their posts will be read and taken seriously.
It was a nice thing Anet did to this game, and a nice comminuty they gathered around them, but they forgot most important part here – be the part of community.
It’s only natural that people come here to voice their concerns and suggestions toward bettering the game. Of course people flood the forums with complaints because once in a full moon, a dev emerges and gives a tiny bit of information, leaving people with unanswered questions and even more new questions that need answers. It’s not the community that made this forum complaint department.
Community is “demanding, or complaining, or insisting, or expecting the worst” because when some burning questions don’t get answer or get addressed for a long time, then there’s nothing much left they can do.
You know, maybe its just me. And that’s entirely possible. I will admit that I don’t spend a lot of time in the Forums as others might. But does it seem to anyone else that the Forums for the most part have basically become a space for players to complain about the game? Isn’t Forums worth more than that?
Again, maybe its just me, but it just seems like everyone has either gone to other 3rd party sites, video steaming/recorded sites, or in-game, for things like build help, new player help, guild recruitment, etc…
To me, instead of become a helpful community helping others with knowledge, experience, and suggestions, it has become a place to complain, bash Anet, and convince others that they should just give up, “cause its always been this way.”
Its sad to me. Sad that Anet designed a game that tried to defy the status quo of everyone looking out for themselves, and creating a community friendly game, with massive world events that complimented group effort, and WvW, and even PvP with their effort of allowing even lvl 1’s to participate without dramatic set-backs. And these Forums have started to slowly become that which they tried to avoid.
Shame on us. So Druids don’t get a POI reveal. So Rangers haven’t had as much dedicated bug fixes. Maybe instead of finding ways to complain and bash Anet, we could come together as a community and once it has been brought to Anet’s attention, help out the Rangers that are struggling. Encourage them to maybe slightly alter their build to help compensate as much as possible. Or maybe even adjust personally, as we learn to address our favorite classes’ limitations. That’s right, our favorite class. If Ranger is your favorite class to play, there has to be reasons you still insist on playing it, no matter the limitations. Focus on that. Focus on encouraging new Rangers who are struggling, and reminding them, hey the pets may be hard to deal with right now compared to other classes, but man, let me tell you about my favorite aspect, or my favorite way to play them.
Its time to stop demanding, or complaining, or insisting, or expecting the worst.
Its time to be a community again. Not a complaint department at the DMV.
Guild Wars 2 is THE best MMORPG in the market HANDS DOWN.
Lets start communicating it like we care, and lets start being a forum who cares and is helpful.
But again…maybe its just me.

The ranger that is in me…..can’ t accept your post man.
How is this game specific forum any different from any other specific games forums out there?
Even then if I want a proper forum, I would just go to another site. I mean sure I loved to talked about the game but there are more stuff to talked about.
Totally Agree. The forums are (and Always have been in my opinion) a place for a certain vocal minority Going Doom and Gloom about everything and everyone. This is why many people dont even bother posting constructive posts. From time to time i look and hope it has changed, but regretably it hasnt.
I see you’re complaining about the complaining.
Nice thread. I liked the part where you thinly veiled your suggestion to Rangers to L2P. Such good advice.
The forums are what they are. Like every MMO forums I’ve ever been on. This isn’t even as bad as many.
It doesn’t mean we don’t receive our share of non-constructive cristicism, trolling and hyperbole, but then, that gives me something to do in my copious free time. lol
Since this is an official MMO Forum, it is normal to see most of the Forum Community to be negative. Most People who enjoy the Game don’t even bother to post something here.
There is one Thing I learned from other MMO Forums: Ppl tend to exaggerate bad Things and downplay the good Things about the Game., and every Class is OP and Useless ( Especially your Main Class is the most useless Thing in the Entire MMO History) at the same Time. If you say something bad about the Game, you are a Hater and if you say something good about it you are a Whiteknight or paid by the Dev. This is what happens in most MMO Forums.
But here you have the Chance to see constructive Posts and other People suggesting good improvements instead of just going all Doom
OP, you’re just reading the wrong forum.
You have posted in the HoT forum, in which Anet asked us to discuss forthcoming HoT information and provide our feedback and opinions. I have seen plenty of positives as well as criticism here. I feel absolutely zero shame for providing my opinions.
What you’re looking for is the “Players Helping Players” forum found here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players
I also think you should have a more positive outlook. Instead of reading ‘doom and gloom’ or articles with ‘hate’ in the title, look for happier posts or ‘feel good’ news. Stop trying to shame others and just try to set a good example.
People satisfied with the game are too busy playing and enjoying the game while the dissatisfied ‘players’ come to the forum to ‘change’ things to make the game more enjoyable. That is why you seem more ‘dissatisfied’ posts than satisfied ones. I do agree the ‘attitude’ of the dissatisfied posts could and should be better.
(before all the satisfied players say they exists, I know you do I’m just saying there is a larger population of dissatisfied people on the forums)
Main Class – Ranger [Bezerker/Trapper Hybrid]
Main Mode – WvW [Gate of Madness]
All this thread tells the reader is:
1. OP is perfectly happy with his gameplay and resents others for finding fault and talking about it in anything but a positive light, as though everything is hunky dory.
2.
Nice thread. I liked the part where you thinly veiled your suggestion to Rangers to L2P. Such good advice.
Eh… as nice as it would be, I would rather have people be negative and passionate…
I’d rather they be constructive.
Negativity, especially passionate, is the reason why we can’t have nice things in the first place. It leads to ill-conceived rants, complaining, and name-calling.
Measured negativity finds problems. And for most game designers, that’s as far as we need to go; they’ll take care of the rest.
What would be helpful is an idea that’s popular enough to gain traction but still fits within the design scheme.
But yeah, forums are where dissatisfied people go to complain, because if the game is fun, there’s no need to complain. :P
“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
The main problem why official forum of this or any other game is mostly filled with complaints and not discussions or feedback, is the lack of official involvement.
Devs or their customer relations counterparts are trying their hardest to leave as little footprint as possible on their own forum.
The main official involvement is forum moderation, bug and game updates. Little to none real communication. Many gaming companies started to use reddit and other social sites more and use their own forum just as a PR. Just look at search function on this forum and their total lack of interest in making it work.
Forums look like they do because of almost complete lack of interest by the officials and too much interest by players.
This being a forum, it operates on circular logic, fallacies, and the simple fact that all of us believe that we, as individuals, are the only ones who are right and that everyone else is wrong. It’s also why it is hard for the devs to take us seriously.
- The more asinine the post or thread, the more I am amused.
