Oh look, I have to find something else to fill in the slot/role of ice bow and explore the rest of my skills. Meh, I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner, considering that elementalists have known that ice bow was OP for quite some time. We weren’t complaining, mind you, but I am actually surprised that it wasn’t hit with the nerf bat sooner.
Don’t worry OP, there are plenty of other skills that are high powered for you to play with. Also, look on the bright side, you might find yourself finding another skill that fills in the same role.

Meh, it was great bringing zergs to their knees while it lasted. I will probably still use the skill. I mean, on the high end I was able to average nearly 5k per strike with mild might. 2k per strike is still very good. 3 targets down from 5 is where the pain really sets in… Oh well, at least I have the glorious memory of downing half a zerg that was PvD-ing. We were outnumbered almost 3 to 1. My nuking allowed me to down half the zerg, giving our small group the opportunity it needed to push out. The XP and the bags were kittening epic. We were able to push them out of our keep because of a well timed use of my aoe bombs. Make no mistake, I will still be able to do it, it will just be a little less beautiful, because frost bow is usually the last in my chain anyway. Staff ele has plenty of aoe damage, frost bow was just the cherry on top.
Oh my the 1 ability that Ele’s had is now nerfed whatever shall we do, it would make sense if they had … oh …. I don’t know, several other abilities but that’s just not the case. Oh wait after further searching I have come to the conclusion that Ele’s do indeed have several other abilities, who knew !
yes icebow is finally nerf, and that’s GOOD!
icebow is the most broken thing in the game (in PvE at least), it should have been nerf long ago.
there was a time all devs playing ele. fiery greatsword and ice bow were just op.
some of the devs changed to another class—→ fiery greatsword fixed/nerfed
noone if the devs play now ele —> ice bow fixed/nerfed

It’s great that your attempting to do something about the state of pve anet. But 2 years of neglect is not going to be undone by changing 2 parameters in your code. You need to continue to make improvements.

I find trying to reflect wahlens attack the most fun part of cm. Plus the path is soo easy anyways, why not enjoy a gimmick. Although I do agree that standing on the plank at the end is annoying.
It should at least only be nerfed in PvE.

Yes, balance is a good thing. Nerfing something so badly that it becomes imbalanced on the opposite side of the spectrum is a bad thing.
So I think people are forgetting something here.
A few months ago, they said they were nerfing IB4 during a balance stream. The next stream they then said “Oh, we’re not nerfing it, we’re increasing it by 50%.” Now they’re nerfing it down by 50%.
So in actuality, IB4 is just returning to the way it was before the buff happened, which will be the normal damage it did when the game launched.
Doesn’t really matter. 2 eles in a party provide 4 ice bows that still target all 3 golems in SE P1. Boss stacking will still work.
Very, very curious to see how this goes. Well, If it becomes useless (Which I doubt) eles will still hold a high place in pve gameplay, they still offer great utility and amazing damage (And godly AoE sustain). I honestly wish they’d just nerf it into the ground so eles can take something different for once. -_-

It actually sounds like it’s not being fixed, they didn’t mention anything about the bug that lets all the impacts be pushed into a much smaller area being fixed.
What is sounds like is happening is that it’s getting is damage balanced around the fact that the linecasting/cornercasting bug exists.
Even at 50% damage, it’s still a very powerful (But not completely ridiculous) spell for exploiters, for people that play as intended though, it’s useless.
I can only imagine that it’s a sign that they’re unable to fix the linecasting/cornercasting bug without breaking something else.

The thing is, even with its damage cut in half, Ice Storm is still the highest damaging skill in the game. Currently it does 329 × 24 over a 3 second period. That is 7,896 tooltip damage, or 2632 tooltip DPS.
On my unoptimized ele, I would frequently hit anywhere from 4k to 5k per bolt, direct damage. With linecasting I could land nearly every bolt on the target. The bleeds tick for 335 extra per bolt, coming to 8k damage in bleeding alone. That totals to 128k damage in 3 seconds. It was insane! On my thief I could hit over 6k per bolt, coming to 152k damage in 3 seconds. Having 50.67k DPS just simply wasn’t O.K.
Originally I was against an icebow nerf, but the linecasting tactic kind of ruined the balance of the skill. Even if you cut the direct damage in half (68k, 80k) it is still the highest damaging skill in PVE. It also comes with a pretty good stun and chill application.
Even with all that said, I think it is overnerfed. Ice Storm didn’t need a target reduction.

Okay, wow. I never knew about any “linecasting” trick and have no idea how it’s done, but I guess that answers a question I’ve had. I’ve never understood why Icebow got such attention when my uses of it never seemed to produce extreme results. Now I know.
It sucks that it’s going to be near useless for me without that trick, but imbalanced damage like that has to be stopped.

Nah. It looked as if he had something personal against eles and was actually enjoying it way too much. Ice bow needed and deserved to be nerfed (tho maybe not as badly as it ended up – anet devs always liked to go overboard with things), there’s no argument about it, but there was no need for such childish behaviour at all.

Well, you pointed that out. The afternerf icebow is good only assuming you are using linecasting exploit. Which is an exploit, and should’t be something skills are balanced about.

The elementalists don’t care, most dmg still comes from good rotations… And now we’ll see glyph of storms and glyph of elementals reintroduced in dungeons, Hope people learn to switch 1 ele to earth and use it for a blast finisher, blast blast (6,7), the the wall the sandstorm then moving to fire and the second ele one starting with fire : lava font (6,7) then MS, buring and switching to sandstorm to conditnue blind uptimes and rewalling… maybe even using blast 2 in eart to hit water 3 for maximum sustain and mitigation while simultanioulsy still doing high AOE dmg. Of course lightning storm and lightning hammer is still available… I am pretty sure FGS and IB have been nerfed to $#!7, now see what the axe and lightning hammer can do….

Conjures don’t need buffs, they need a complete rework.
I can’t wait for HoT to become live. My new profession will be the ‘Dev’ enant and my 1 skill is the Nerf Bat auto attack which will render all skills in PvE useless.
Arenanet have ALWAYS excessively nerfed certain skills since GW1 prophecies… Why expect anything different. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Banning people is not a substitute for fixing. It needs to be fixed. Many of these exploits are demanded by the majority of pugs. Just as icebow needed to be fixed. I disagree with the way it was fixed, but I acknowledge that a fix was needed for the raid bosses which will probably all be large hit box.

Or groups will skip all that and just have 3 eles sitting in fire spamming lava font/fireball, with a war doing the might stacking and a guard/thief doing the blinds. Boring but its the highest dps you can get in game, ice bow or not (i’m not complaining, just stating a fact).
Either way ice bow still needed a nerf, and since it will still be a useful weapon (at least on stuff with big hitboxes) it doesnt seem like an overnerf at all.
Icebow could use a nerf, but 50% DPS AND reduction of targets from 5-3 is too much of a nerf.
So now every single conjured weapon sucks…
So why are they even in the game?
Personally I believe the nerf was needed, with that said this badly, it looks at least on the surface, to me to make the skill not viable. 50% damage nerf on top of only hitting 3 targets max instead of 5 means it will not have reduced dps potential of 40% from that alone. So that is something like 30% of the damage potential it used to have.
