Full Specialization weapon list
Did they specifically say only one new weapon per class?
The officially announced weapons are both two-handed weapons. I’m wondering if a specialization that gets one new single-handed weapon might get a second as well?
Also is it clear that regardless, even the classes that get 2-handed weapons might get a second new weapon?
I’m wondering about each specialization getting one new 2-handed weapon and one new 1-handed weapon.

Colin said that every class will get only one new weapon regardless of it being two-hand or main/offhand.
The Thief Rifle is speculation based on a glimpse of a medium armor character holding a rifle. It could have been an Engineer in that clip.
The Thief Rifle is speculation based on a glimpse of a medium armor character holding a rifle. It could have been an Engineer in that clip.
It is a thief because Anet have no reason to show one class twice in a trailer, and he is wearing a thief themed mask and Anet would not put that on an engineer.
So there’s a strong basis for the speculation. You’re making a reasonable inference, I agree. It’s just not at the confirmed level of the mesmer shield. Why wouldn’t ANet give an Engineer a face mask? It’s perfectly possible for any player to do so in game thanks to the Wardrobe.

It’s a trailer dude, why would Anet put thief style outfit on a engineer in a TRAILER.
Here is a full list of specialization weapons based on official announcement , data mining. and community speculation .The list will be very likely to be accurate, however it is not 100% confirmed.
Druid: Stuff(official announcement)
Necromancer: Greatsword(official announcement)
Engineer: hammer( trailer)
Mesmer: Shield(trailer)
Thief: Rifle(trailer)
Elementalist: Sword(data mining)
Guardian: Long bow(trailer)
Warrior: Pistol(speculation)
Warrior pistol is my speculation, based on the known specialization weapons, every class get a different weapon, the only non magical weapons left for warriors are pistol, short bow and dagger. The reason I think warrior will more likely to get pistol is Rytlock(when he was a warrior) wield pistol, Anet gave NPC Necro greatsword, and now they got greatsword , the chance Anet will do the same to warrior is high.
New ranger weapon is STUFF confirmed! /throwsGarbageAtYou
It’s a trailer dude, why would Anet put thief style outfit on a engineer in a TRAILER.
The art team put polearms into the trailer and its been confirmed that there are no new weapons (that weren’t there already)m let alone polearms. Its perfectly reasonable that model was an engineer that was specifically meant to look like a thief, or it was an NPc in a cutscene we could see (or not) later on (and we already know NPCs don’t have to play by the rules).
Likewise with Guardian Longbow. Its not fully confirmed, but I’m right with everyone saying its greater than 50% Guardian will get such a weapon. I think some of these rankings should have a loose probability along side their speculation. Something like:
Druid: Stuff(official announcement, confirmed)
Necromancer: Greatsword(official announcement, confirmed)
Engineer: hammer( trailer, extremely likely)
Mesmer: Shield(trailer, extremely likely)
Thief: Rifle(trailer, possible)
Elementalist: Sword(data mining, very likely)
Guardian: Long bow(trailer, very likely)
Warrior: Pistol(speculation, plausible)
I still don’t understand why people want guardian to get longbow. It’s so dull compared to giving them a tech weapon.
I think thief will get rifle because people in the closed betas often “speculate” about what will happen and use indirect evidence like the trailer to try and spill the beans without technically breaking NDA.
Good to know Colin clarified one weapon per class. I haven’t had time to read every article and rewatch the videos I’ve seen. Thanks for the confirm, warbignime.
Well…
The guy with a riffle in the trailer is a norn with a norn hairstyle

Not a thief hairband. Sorry but this could absolutely be an engi.

There is no NDA, so no real ‘beans to spill’. =)
Thief with a rifle is the most stupid thing ever, and i hope…i hope it’s not true. Cause if it is… kitten it i’m out of here and onto a new game. It doesn’t make sense, at all and it doesn’t fit.
Thief with some cool axes? hell yea i’m all up for that…but a rifle? NO NO NO NO NO
This is actually what i’m waiting on, as soon as they announce the specialization for thief i will know if i will get the expansion or not.
God please don’t let them ruin the Thieves even more with a freaking rifle….please…
Here’s an image from one recent video I’ve made, just for a more visual input.
Where did they officially confirm the hammer for engineer?, so far i know onlt ranger staff, and necro GS is officially confirmed

Well, it’s offically confirmed in the same way the mesmer shield was: it is shown very clearly in a trailer.

How exactly does a rifle not fit the thief? Also, how exactly does the axe fit? And how exactly does such a relatively minor choice make you ragequit?

Warrior should get staff as a melee weapon, which can have spear skins.

Warrior should get staff as a melee weapon, which can have spear skins.
Based on the trailer and based on data-mining it already seems like the Revenant will use the staff as a melee weapon so this seems unlikely.
Here’s an image from one recent video I’ve made, just for a more visual input.
Guardian getting a shortbow would bring more variaty in the soldier proffessions, since the warrior already has longbow and rifle. But Braham is Eir’s son, so it might be a Longbow….
Warrior with Pistol please. Would make many Charr happy. /salute Rytlock
Even this should be the case, the only class that actually should know how to wield a Staff for melee combat is a THIEF, they are the acrobatics, not warriors, not Revenants.
Their clunky heavy armors would be only in the way to be able to effectively battle with a staff in meel combat and be effective with it.
Staves/Quarterstaves (if there would exist that weapon category to make a difference between magical staves and melee staves ) are an elegant weapon for graceful classes, like the Thief, which use it not for mere power only – not something for brutish classes like the powerful and graceless Warrior, that would have no fitting Specialization for such a Weapon at all and would most likely only break their weapons with their brutish powers.
The Guardian, which is so far the only class that uses the staff also doesn’t use it for melee combat, but for Light Magic instead basically, same as like the Trident and Spear.
And I doubt that the Revenant uses a staff for melee combat, because the staves that the game has so far are by their design not made for any melee combat with their big slowing down staff heads, that are clearly a sign for magical staves only as thats the point, where the magical energies get channelled, before they get unleashed in a blast to hit the target with it like in GW1
A quarterstaff that is made for melee combat looks like this:
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/gw2-monkey-king-tonic.jpg
while a magic staff looks like this:
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/gw2-ascended-staff_thumb1.jpg
and thats the way, how all Staffs in GW2 so far are designed. So unless ANet implements Quarterstaffs as new Weapon Category, I personally see no class, other than a later coming Thief Specialization together with that new Weapon Category becoming a Class in the game, that fights with such a weapon in Melee Combat.
Like I said, both the trailer and datamining do seem to suggest this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IOUk2y0K2m8#t=93
http://i.imgur.com/SjX7u2A.png (note the range on the staff skills)
And still I don’t believe, that these skills would result with the Reve in a full contact melee combat style that looks graceful, like how an acrobatic Thief would handle that weapon.
It does look to me more like a melee/mid range hybrid build, because theres also 1 600er range skiill and a 240-600 range skill among the 5 skills.
A real full contact Melee Staff build would consit only out of 5 short ranged weapon skills without any mid range skills in there.
So I expect the Revenant more to be a brutish form of the Guardian, that can defend itself with the staff in melee if it must be, but has its options still to keep distance via Skill 3 and to pull enemies via Skill 5 with the help of Taunt to them, while the skill already damages the foe that runs to them from mid range with its 2ned longer ranged effect that you can use after having taunted the foe to knock that foe back again to let the taunted foe not reach you.
A melee staff thief against that would be whirling all around the target with a staff weapon build that allows them to be more dodgy and to block and counterattack oftenly melee attacks with the staff, having no need to fight at midrange, because with that weapon in use they actually want to stay in melee combat, while dealign with their attacks On Spot-AoE damage hitting multiple foes at once around them, like dervishes with a scythe whats personally also the only way how we will ever get to see Scythes in a melee way in the game – as Quarterstaves with Scythe Skin for Thieves as that would fit them to steal from a peasant their scythe to use it as melee combat weapon as both are literally polearms with one have just a crescent blade on top attached to it xD
PS: also you have not to forget, between a TRAILER and the final product until its released, can be changed ALOT. What you think there are Melee Skills for NOW, must not be also melee attacks by the end when HoT gets released.
Alot of those skill concepts there from which most have no names are also just only PLACE HOLDERS, so that Anet doesn’t spoil us. Skill Effects that gare shown there, must not be exactly the same when HoT releases.
These 5 Skilsl can changed any time to something completely different.
Trailers often are also just only for show, to create hype and often show also things, which end up in the final product to be not 100% exactly the same.
What you see there could also be theoretically just only RYTLOCKS own special Revenant Skills, which are those 5 unnamed ones there, while later the PLAYER Revenant Staff Skills could be something completely different.

The art team put polearms into the trailer and its been confirmed that there are no new weapons (that weren’t there already)m let alone polearms
The art team put a revenant wielding a bladed staff. From data-mining, we already know revenants are intended to use staves at melee range, so what we have been shown is probably true. The art team just trolled us with the skin they choose. They could have easily put in the staff’s scythe skin, and players would all be screaming “scythe confirmed!” instead.
So far, their marketing trailers have been very consistent on showing profession-themed armor skins on their respective professions. So if we see a thief-looking character wielding a rifle, chances are, that is a thief wielding a rifle.
or just an engineer wielding a rifle, that many people think, it must be a thief, only because of their personal wish thinking, that a trailer has to show all classes with teir new weapons instantly.
We all know that due to the class type system engineers and rangers are able to wear exactly the seme equipment skins, like a thief.
Anet simply could willing show us there an engineer, that lloks like a thief to just make everyone believe that thieves get rifles just to suprise later everyone with it, that they most likely, if at least that 1 different weapon category by each specialization-meme stays true, coudl end up with a weapon like the Torch, the Axe or the Mace, which all would be also 3 very fitting weapons for a Thief Specialization.
I’m among thhose, that believe, that rifles would completely ruin the Thief Class.
If its all what Thieves need is a proper and fitting by its design weapon with 1200er range, than I say, Thieves should receive that with the next set of Specializations being the Class, that receives next the Longbow, while its most likely for the first set now the Guardian first.
Rifles are only so wanted because overyoen and their mum wants to run around as a stupid “Sniper” /facepalm.
When in fact we already have that…
you need to play for it only Longbow Ranger to pew pew pew with your virtual Longbow-Gatling Gun your enemies down after using Skill 3 to stealth you for some seconds
If you want snipers so bad, I suggest you go rather play CoD. Counter Strike and such stuff, because there you have your Sniper Gameplay.
GW2 will never ever receive something like that due to absolute obvious Game Balance reasons!!
I rather see Anet implementign something like axe wielding “Rogues” as Specialization which would be a more brutish gameplay form of the Thief, or Mace/Torch wielding “Saboteurs” what would both make more sense and fun, than to see, how anet ruins the Game with a Rifle Thief “Sniper” to turn out of this Game a stupid fantasy based counter strike clone
BOOM HEADSHOT ….

What, you don’t want to be suddenly kill shot by a thief in stealth?
slip
Actually i believe that staff skills are;
2 – 600 range gap closer, possibly teleport as it has 1/2 casttime.
3 – a block due to the 2sec duration and melee range
4 – looks like a field but it has no range which leads me to think its some sort of a aura around revenant like mallyx elite.
5 – hard to say. I think its a similiar skill to guardian gs 2 as both have number of impacts and 600 range but this one knockback instead.
So nope, not really a ranged weapon.
Aha and last hit on staff aa is a whirl finisher we already saw in wvw trailer.

True, but that wasn’t the polearms I was talking about. All I’m really calling for is to collectively pull back and remember that only 2/9 profession specializations are actually confirmed, with the others in varying states of likelihood.
And also, Heavy Armor is not clunky at all, and not significantly more restricting than cloth or leather armor, potentially less so.

Rifle fit thief very well, more so than any other weapons. also the fact you compared CoD sniper gameplay to this is completely ignorant and nonsensical .

I would say that 6/9 is confirmed, I mean they put them in the trailer already. I mean Anet would not change spec weapons at this point because it’s pointless.

I’m not opposed to Thief getting rifle, I just don’t know what purpose it’ll have. Like, what will a Rifle toting thing be able to do over current sets? Ranged damage is covered through p/p, ranged AOE by shortbow, Sneak Attack covers the condi and rapid fire stealth skill, Stun is covered by Sword stealth skill, Ranged Immob by Shortbow’s, and a sniper like shot is covered by Warrior’s Rifle and their Kill Shot. I could see thieves lacking in a condition focused melee set (which can actually be covered with d/d and venoms), but Rifle doesn’t strike me as fulfilling that niche. Perhaps it’ll act more like Engineer rifle, with conal skills and ranged pulls/launches.
Similar questions could be asked about a lot of the specializations. Some make sense, like Druid staff looks to add some CC and maybe some support, and Necro GS and Engi Hammer look to add some melee aoe presence, but what will swords give eles, or shields to mesmer, or longbow to guards? Some of these things don’t innately lend to a good idea of their purpose. In any regard, I’m excited.
Warrior should get staff as a melee weapon, which can have spear skins.
Druid is getting stuff so warrior don’t get stuff.
Too right, warriors have gotten far too much stuff all through this game! /rabblerabblerabble (total j/k, I’m not on any nerf bandwagon, I promise)
I do wonder, has ANet confirmed that there are no duplicate “new” weapons for specs? After all in the base profs a greatsword plays very differently based on whether you’re a warrior, guardian, or mesmer. They could give the same weapon to two profs that don’t yet have it, and make it handle differently for each.
Keep in mind guys that the specializations are the new ways that ANet is adding diversity to the game, so they will come out with more than one specialization per class. I suspect that they’ll have at least 2 per class, so that should give us hope so we can have the weapons we look forward to.
The first Thief Spec may get Rifle while the second may get Staff as a melee.
Here’s an idea I put in another post. Yes I know they are only coming out with one specialization right now, but at least this may hint at what they may come up with and what we already know, most people are looking forward to:
Warrior
– Warlord: Torch
– Paragon: Staff as a melee weapon
Thief
– Tumbler: Staff as a melee weapon
– Assassin: Rifle
Guardian
– Monk: Mace (off Hand)
– Seraphim: Long Bow
Engineer
– Demolitioner : Hammer
– Render: Mace (main hand)
Necromancer
– Reaver: Great Sword
– Spectre: Axe (off hand)
Ranger
– Druid: Staff
– Shaman: Hammer
Elementalist
– Warden: Short Bow
– Warlock: Dual Sword
Mesmer
– Chronomancer: Shield:
– Enchanter: Dual Daggers:

Right now they are planning on one new specialization for the HoT release (so technically you could count ranger as a specialization and druid as the second). They’ve also said in the future there will be more specializations, but we don’t know what their timeframe is. I don’t expect we will have more than one specialization with HoT, but if we do, it won’t be anytime soon after it’s release.
