GUILD HALLS, unobtainable
As above ^^^^^^^^
We knew this would be the case when they had the week where they were releasing the blog posts on guild halls.
Not to mention a guild is a group of people by definition anyway.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
They’re not interested. It’s like they specifically wanted to spit on solos & duos. I did get a laugh out of being commended on my “Team Work” for all the unlocks I had, by the guild initiative NPC, though.
Totally agree with you. I play in a 2 man guild with my best friend, we do not wish to have others in the guild, and have tried larger guilds before but haven’t had a good experience.
After buying the upgrade we figure out it’s a 3 man minimum to get even the smallest WvW mission for favor, and no other way of getting favor? We used to earn influense, a good amount of it, now its broken for us. “Recommended” 3 man I could understand, but a requirement? This is just a req. to ruin the game for smaller guilds.
Thank you Anet for breaking an otherwise good game for the smaller guilds.
Expansion means making a game larger and better, not more limiting and removing features we already had…
It’s not even a guild. It’s just a glorified party.
Sorry guys but you cannot expect a MMO to account for and adjust to 1-2 person guilds. Those are glorified parties indeed or, at best, a Guild Team. Making content with such groups in mind is impractical in every conceivable way.
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
Also disappointed, I was planning to sink whatever the costs were in materials into solo building a guild hall, not to mention I was going to do all the missions I could, but hey seems they don’t want solo players to have those kinda time/material sinks.
Sorry guys but you cannot expect a MMO to account for and adjust to 1-2 person guilds.
Dude there’s like 20,000 people in the world maybe that seriously “guild up” in these games.
The majority of their sales are just going to game players that pick up the game and want to access the features and have a good time.
Thank you Anet for breaking an otherwise good game for the smaller guilds.

Maybe you should “expand” your circle of game buddies, instead of limiting yourself to playing with one friend or just by yourself.
Most everybody likes to play solo at some point, but the whole design of guilds is to play with other people. A guild of one is like a basketball team with only one person on it, it’s missing the point.
Tri-Lead of Ascension [WAR] of Borlis Pass
I would have been fine with not being able to further advance my 2 person guild, but why take away the upgrades I had earned? I haven’t played any WvW since the expansion, but if I can’t claim camps and buff supply I’m gonna be even more disappointed than I already am with HoT.
How much influence did you have pre HoT? Because 30K carried over is enough to buy the 150 favor you need at 10K/50 favor at the exchange NPC in the Guild Initiative HQ. That and 100 gold and you will have the mission kicked off. Gather up some friends to help with the claiming (I don’t know how easy the claim is, my guild is small enough that we’re waiting for people to finish the first flush of exploration and mastery gain before we seek out the Lost Precipice).
You can work around the number requirements (in the core game) by using free accounts. Make a few ranger “heroes” to play with.
The old guild system really doesn’t translate well into the new one. Consumables and buffs now require the scribe profession to craft schematics to be put into the aetheric assembler, and all of that requires a guild hall with the necessary infrastructure. You can’t really carry over any old guild upgrades.
Our smallish guild managed to get the Gilded Hollows with 9 people, but I don’t know if the event scales down any further than what we got (2 maws per wave + 1 final boss). You should honestly try make some new friends and go at it together. It genuinely feels epic, and it’s nice to share the hall with other people. The place is absolutely massive and I imagine would get quite lonely if it was just you by yourself.
In the old system as a solo player we could contribute influence to any guild we represented, now we contribute nothing as a solo player. The only way we can earn favour is in groups.
Everyone should be able to play the game the way they enjoy it, and not forced to go through the hassle of organising group events or pre-made pvp teams if they want to contribute to a guild.
There was no mention of Guild Treks being removed from the pool of PvE guild missions so they should be in the rotation, albeit it’s possible it might be a bit til we see it. That’s what I am hoping on at least, t1 and t2 trek is easily doable solo or with a friend. Also bounties, if you call on map people help, especially now with events counting towards bonus map rewards. Just a matter of tracking target within the alloted time and getting lucky at the target rolls too. I’d like to claim the hall that got the short end of the stick in the selection polls of my main guild, just so I have access to and can explore both, just know it might be a bit.
I, like OP used to want my own hall for my solo bank guild, just to design in, then I realized I wouldn’t enjoy any of the content because there was no point if no one else was playing alongside you. And I want to smash heads in the arenas.
I’m only have a 2 person guild mostly, and it sorta sucks, but at the same time we understand. It hard cause were mostly on at the same time, so it was always easy for us. We know if we want to do some guild things, we need to find some people, or maybe even join a bigger one / find help from another small guild.
While I would like a change to make it easier, at the same time, I am not sure they should also.
(edited by TJgalon.5012)
I also paid 100 euros, I’m from a small guild, I want to see your feature so much publicized – the guild hall. I can’t see this. I don’t want to add anyone to my guild or go to large guild. I want MY OWN guild hall.
I paid 100$, like others, but why I cannot even look at guild halls? Because someone decide, than I MUST cooperate with another ppl? But I prefer to decide myself.
I don’t need a third person, I want to play with my friend, like we played 2 years. And I want to see content of which I paid.
I’ve been a solo player for years, I’ve made and paid for my own guild to reach level 5 via buying commendations with in game gold and now with the release of HOT I just found out I need to find some players to grind favor so I can try obtain my own guild hall? I don’t enjoy trying to coordinate playing the game with friends to achieve something. I don’t want to join another guild. Why the F do I need a minimal of 3 people to gain favor? I was planning on trying to solo clear out my own hall but now I find out I need Favor just to freaken attempt to obtain a guild? WTF? What happened to big and small guilds can obtain their own Hall? Can you please sort this Anet because a fair percentage of your player base prefer to solo regularly.
“reach level 5 via buying commendations with in game gold”
You can buy commendation?
“I need to find some players to grind favor so I can try obtain my own guild hall?”
let say you really did buy commendation with golds, you can buy mercenary to build your hall.
Btw,
A guild is a group of people.
2 person is a partnership
1 person is a solo.
So, naturally, 3.

You guys are complaining because you need to play with other people in an MMO. Funny. Fair enough you want to do things on your own, but don’t get mad at Anet because you want to be alone in a GUILD.
Perhaps you should have done research into guild halls. They did state that you need a group in order to get them.
Here’s the deal, they’re called GUILD Halls, notice the emphasis on GUILD. A guild should always be about several people joining forces, not a one man army. If anybody has a problem with that, well I’m sorry, DEAL WITH IT. You’re never going to do Raids or claim a Guild Hall on your own, because it’s not meant to be that. You have plenty of other game content you can go and do alone. But if you really expect to glorify yourself soloing a group oriented content, you’ve probably hit yourself in the head way too many times. You really think entire guilds coordinate themselves and bust their behinds to claim a hall, and you’re just gonna do it on your own? LOOOOOL Child please! Here’s a suggestion, add more people to the guild (which is made specifically to have more people in it to begin with), claim the hall, kick them out, and stop the QQ. And lastly, before you start replying and cursing me because I’m speaking some sense into this post, consider this, regardless of how you feel about this, you’re not getting no Guild Hall alone, or Raids, no matter how hard you complain, because it’s GROUP ORIENTED CONTENT!!!!!!!!!! What’s next, people complaining because they can’t solo in PvP against a team of 5? ;p
Sorry guys but you cannot expect a MMO to account for and adjust to 1-2 person guilds.

Omg so rediculous. Guilds are for GROUPS of players. Having 1 or 2 other people that you play with is what friends lists are for, not guilds.
Guild halls are NOT a personal housing system so stop asking anet to cater to you as if it is. If you dont have enough players to take a guild hall, then you arnt a guild.
It’s not just useless, but entirely beside the point, to tell people who like to play solo or have a private guild with their spouse or a friend but still want to experience the full game that they’re playing it “wrong” or that they “should” be playing it some other way. Child, please (as they say). A successful gaming enterprise adapts to the demand of their audience.
Obviously there’s demand for guild halls for small guilds. It’s in this thread and it’s in the threads of the forums for several major guilds I’m in. The question is simply why ANet feels that they’ll make more money if they gate content for guilds through pushing people to play in groups larger than pairs.
In MY case, every guild I’m in has voted to go for the same guild hall, and I like the OTHER one, so it’s just a matter of wanting to have a little place for my spouse and me to fool around in. Given the amount of people I’ve seen in my larger guilds (I belong to several guilds with members numbering in the hundreds) who are wanting to have personal guild halls, there’s demand, and I tend to think a large portion of them are not people who purely play solo.
I can think of this workaround or that—that’s not the point. The point is, I shouldn’t have to. Is there really some kind of financial harm for ANet to allow people who want this, to have it?
At the moment at least, I am unable to see why it’s necessary to gate the guild hall acquisition behind such a circular, cumbersome and frustrating path to favor.

Your problem is your asking for the wrong thing, what you truely want is player housing instances. Your asking anet to change content designed for LARGE groups of players to cater to solo/duo players because it has a feature somewhat similar for what you really are looking for
This guy…
You want content that was made for groups of 10-500 people, to be changed and accommodated to fit your player housing prospect?
Hey man, I hate to break it to you, your in the wrong line of game. Your asking to remove the MMO out of MMORPG and that just isn’t gonna happen.
And before the obligatory “well I’ll just go find another game then and see how you like the loss of money!”, business-wise, even if there was an even number of guilds that were 3 players+ and under 3 player, you wouldn’t even make a dent in profit. So go ahead, honestly I encourage you to find an single player RPG and if you feel it lacks community, then join a forum of said RPG. Enjoy.

Wrong, Its not about creating solo content so read before you post your opinion, Its about adding restrictions that serve no purpose. I don’t play as a guild style player because I work, ride moto cross with along with my son and girlfriend so creating an active guild is near impossible with the time limitations I have. I’ve been a GW1 supporter for 7 years and GW2 since launch so why when i’m one of the most loyal Anet supporters would my opinion not be valid? I don’t want solo content I just don’t want restrictions, If its too hard I’ll find a way but as for the cant do it without 3 people wtf

Dude learn to read, I didn’t ask for solo content, I said it needs restrictions lifted, I don’t give a rats kitten if I fail trying to earn my own guild hall I just want the option to try to be mine and not come down to a minimum 3 people bull kitten
I have a very small guild about 20 people – only 10 of us were actuall able to go get our guild hall, so we divided teams of 2
we had 5 on both teams, complted it now we have a guild hall
it jsut takes organization & proper gearing
Thank you Anet for breaking an otherwise good game for the smaller guilds.

So your ok with 3 man guilds but 1 or 2 makes you a loser in some way? If a party of 2 or w/e size wants a special place of their own who am I to tell them “get more friends=get a life”
OK, i can see your point, one is solo, 2 is a duo, and 3 is a guild, but I don’t agree with it, and Anet didnt define it this way before. OP and I already have a guild, we have had for many years, and we were happy with it. Then came HoT, and they changed most of the game mechanics, so for me who owned a guild, was earning influense, capping camps, claiming them and contributing with +5 supply, guild catas etc. can now do nothing, cause we are one man short.
Yes I can make a freebie account and monkey it around to get around the cap, but seriously, is that a better solution then removing a minimum cap? All im asking for is removing minimum caps.
Yes please, make the events so hard that they can’t be done by 3 people, I’d be fine with that, but knowing I can’t do an event because Anet has defined, sorry you need one more player to do the thing you just did with one or two? Thats BS…
Had the requirement been 3 people from the start then yes, we might have tried to find some casual guild, but we decided to create our own, and that was OK for Anet, but now they have introduced a minimum of 3 people for an event that require no more then a single player, just to break the experience for us smaller guilds, this far into the game.
And sorry for all you guild-members who are offended cause we don’t play your style, i prefer to play in a small guild, you prefer in a large. MMORPG says nothing about playing in a larger then 3 person group. I am just as big a part of MASS MULTIPLAYER ONLINE, as you are?
I play in WvW, no need to be in a guild there. If we should go by that logic, then unless you make up a elaborate backstory to your guild, and all your characters, then you are not part of MMORPG (the Role playing part). Stop defining how others should play the game, and enable everyone to play the way they want.
I have a job, I have enough people telling me what to do, and how to do it. This is a game, I play it for fun.
In the old system as a solo player we could contribute influence to any guild we represented, now we contribute nothing as a solo player. The only way we can earn favour is in groups.

I couldn’t agree more
I’m sorry but, this is all a joke right? Ur saying anet is defining a guild kitten players, well… No, the English language is.. Guild is not used for the description of a lone wolf…. Its a term for a group of people organized for the same cause/purpose/goals. Your playing GUILDwars… Just be happy they are catering to people who pretend its a single player offline game at all! U play alone? No, u don’t need a guild hall and shouldn’t have one. Btw, have u seen the cost of upgrades? And u think the claiming is unobtainable with a single player? Lol
Srry, but I’m not srry. And your outlook on this game and the developers is asinine.
When I formed my guild there was no rule as to number of people required to make one. There still isn’t, afaik. I earned the upgrades I had with influence, according to the rules and mechanics in place.
Taking something away, something earned honestly, changing the rules, and gating it with an expansion purchase and grouping requirement is bovinefeces.
And Im sick of the M in MMO stupidity as well. MMO was coined by Garriot for the first game allowing thousands to log in via the internet at the same time. Nothing to do with grouping, kitten .
How did my little guild, making a few banners and wvw siege/buffs offend you all so mightily? I took nothing from you, your gameplay, or your group guild events. I shared every upgrade with the community.. via banners and wvw upgrades. I didn’t need any of them. I spent far more influence to provide to the community than I did for my bank space. And now I’m told by this “community” that I somehow don’t deserve providing these things, I’m just a nasty, antisocial pariah SOLO person.
Gee, Thanks.
I bet not one single poster lecturing on the evil of solo guilds ever paused for a second while clicking a banner or using +5 supply wondering if it was provided by a REAL GUILD. You all make me sick.

You don’t get it. We don’t want to be “catered to”. We want the arbitrary limit of “3” people minimum to not be the barrier.
The dungeon content is designed for a group of 5 people and recommended for that many, but I’m glad I’m allowed to go in and complete it with 4 people or less because of the way our small group wants to play. We see that “recommended” number and take heed.
We aren’t demanding that the Guild Puzzles or Raids be re-tooled gameplay wise to be completed with a 2 man party, or the number of kills within a 1 hour time period be lowered for the PvP Hard Guild mission so that every guild gets their shot, but we shouldn’t be prohibited from entering this content with less than the recommended amount of people to at least try.
If Arena Net wanted to scale/design their easy Guild Missions in a way that the gameplay fundamentals required a certain number of people (i.e. Guild Puzzles) that would be fine as we can understand Anet wanted something designed around that number of people.
But when the easy Guild Missions are to do a task that can be soloed with even the slightest ease, the 3 person requirement seems like a far to heavy handed transition into making the game “easy” for everyone. “Lets make sure no one goes into Guild Missions or Raids with a 2 man, they might fail and call us meanie-heads for making hard content, then quit” -Anet, probably.
Basically, if they wanted to make the guild mission something that required 3 people, they should have made it something that required 3 people.

Reading this I really do not think you should be lecturing on the English Language.
2 years we played and built our guild together with my friend. We have succeeded in upgrading. We are not asking for something new, we are asking to return everything as it was, so that we can together continue to upgrade our guild.
Why would we needed a third person? Yes, it will be a long time, but it will be possible without a third person .
Do not create artificial limits there that worked so well. I don’t need imposed socialization.
If they want to make Guild features only for Guilds, that is fine. But individual players, especially solo players deserve some love too.
We need a personal instance revamp with a proper player house, the ability to build new features like Guild Halls have and most importantly player decoration, we all want to show off our personal accomplishments .
Considering Guild Halls gates off the Scribe profession and thus your ability to craft legendaries using masteries.
Heart of No Fun Allowed indeed. This expansion is turning into a train wreck.
I’m one of two founders/leaders of a small casual (~10 person) guild of friends and family. Over the years we have had mainly 3-4 active people but not very much co-ordinated efforts where we’d do things together.
We were able to aquire a guild hall on our second attempt. First we tried to get it with just 3 players and failed. Then we just went the route of using party search tool and offered 1 gold per person for the assistance. We were able to capture Gilded Hollow with a 5-man party.
Oh, and we were able to get enough Favor for the hall and for the first expansion of the hall by doing one easy mission in WvW with the same 3-man team we used to first try for the hall itself.
Wait I can’t earn favor at all unless we’re three in the party? What. So my sister and I won’t ever be able to get a guild hall?

Please, stop. MMORPG was a term coined by Garriot for UO, and the meaning was simply that thousands of players could log in at the same time via internet connections. NOTHING to do with group makeup. This lame M in MMO argument has been dragged out for a decade, it has never been valid, and Game companies are more than happy to take cash from solo players and provide them content along with content designed for groups.
‘Guild Halls’
Not ‘Solo Halls’
Can someone please explain to me how it hurts your playstyle that others who choose to not play like you gets the same things as you do?
Does it hurt you in any way if my 2 person guild gets a GH, or banners, or can capture a camp? As far as i can see, it only gives you benefits if i can provide you with a banner, or a boost?
We used to be able to get these things (except for GH), now its all gone because everything is tied into a GH, and a magical limit of 3.
Let’s be realistic here. Someone asked me why is it absurd for a solo to have 3/4 of a guild. I didn’t reply him. It is indeed absurd though for a person to have that much “power” or access to so much features which are made to cater to be used by many people, not one or two. If Gw2 is a pvpish game, this will become extremely game breaking with solo or duo people having so much power. Thus, this isn’t realistic or even fair in those games.
Also, realistically, a small guild has a small hall because of the limited of resources while a large guild will have a large hall. However, guild hall can’t be scaled so they limit it via features. If solo or duo guild are to confine into this concept, they will not get guild hall because it is only realistic and fair to the guilds that actually bother to earn for it and not buy their way through. If golds is all you need to build a guild, that is really a insult to all the guilds that actually put in efforts to gather people, create a community and advance.

I’m sorry, what is this gamebreaking “power” that small guilds could potentially wield by having a hall to put flags in? Could you clarify?
You do know that you can ask for help from others to secure your guild hall right? Or are the mat cost to upgrade the guild hall once you have it is the issue?
