HoT map hero points give you 10 each. If you have the masteries it will take you two days. Tyria world completion also gives you a pretty sizeable chunk. If you don’t like PvE…. Sorry fam
The problem with playing HoT for the hero points is that you have to play HoT for them. If the OP likes PvP and not PvE I doubt they will enjoy the platformer that HoT is.
The safest route is to provide reward for playing the game, with as little grind as possible. When confronted with a similar dilemma Diablo introduced an interesting system of acquiring points through experience. This way character progression could, well, progress for any player who simply played the game. Brilliant.
Some people object to experienced based progression as boring, but it certainly knocks it out of the park for players who don’t want to be told how to spend their game time.

In addition to what was said above, each level you get in WvW gives you 7 to 9 proofs of heroics that you can give to any character. There are Hero Point trains going on in the new maps so fully unlocking an elite spec isn’t as long. Especially once you get the basic gliding down.

This is pretty much a case of “if you don’t play all the game modes, you won’t get things as fast.”
I’m just saying it’s pretty kitten annoying for someone who only does pvp and wvw that you need to spend a lot of time doing things that you don’t like due to a stupid system.

You need to play the whole game to experience it all. What is hard to understand about that?
I don’t raid I won’t get that stuff. I don’t PvP I won’t get that stuff. I understand this is how this game works and I am fine with it. It has from the very beginning.

each rank up gives between 4-10 PoH, wxp boosters and exp boosters will help massively.
I got my scrapper from nowt to done in about 5 hours of play using my main (thief)
And that was just from roaming – i imagine if you roll guard, tag along with the blob and just hoard PoH, you’ll be able to max everything out.
Just start with the classes you actually play – for me it was DD then herald – that took me about 16 hours.

and as for sPvP – your elite spec is automatically unlocked, its just pve/wvw that you need to actually do things to unlock.
Jsyk.

Hero points in hot gives you 10 points, you need 250 out of the 400 available in hot.
Takes you less than 2 hours maybe to get the required hero points, just follow the videos on dulfy. Less time if you have old world points, and know the maps, which you will after a first run through with dulfy videos. There’s also hero point trains that run in the zones sometimes.
You will need gliding mastery at minimum on the account.

Or just wvw it, try and get in on all the caps happening on the map, run with the zerg.
I also prefer wvw, but I gut it out in the first two weeks of hot and got it done on 9 characters in pve. So glad I did and got that out of the way.

As players have pointed out, it wont take months.
- In pve, if you commit to a rush through you will have it done anywhere between a day and a week depending how you play and how quickly you get your masteries done en route
- WvW will be a bit longer, but I managed 15 levels in a week with a booster. Now I’m not a hard core WvWer – I just ran with a EOTM train for a couple of hours a night. Even if you play at my rather poor level, you;’d be done in 2 weeks tops.
2 weeks is excellent time for horizontal progression and that’s not even the quickest time scale it can be done in.
So I wouldn’t worry about it taking months
Uhhh you can get 25 HoT Hero Points in a couple HOURS. not days. not weeks. not months. what exactly is the problem, OP?

I Just leveled a new toon with tomes of knowledge, and went right into HOT, it took me less than 2 hours to get all 250 HP’s.
I can’t see any problem with it.
Use LFG to find a HP train for Auric Basin. They are pretty common. It takes about an hour and you’ll get 150ish points just from that. You will need gliding, nuhoch wallows, and bouncing mushroom masteries already though.

It’s super easy to get if you wvw a lot like you’re supposed to.

All you need to do is the following, do every HC in VB and AB then grab the last 30 points from Core, job done. should take around 3 hours max, as long as you have a HC train.

Hello
I came back from a break and wanted to play the game again (I have HoT expansion) but I realized I don’t have a single hero point on any character while I have 10.5k Achievement points and rank 670 in wvw (I also don’t have any Proofs of Heroics). I looked up how to get these hero points because I need 250hero points/character and came to the conclusion that I need to do a lot of pve, probably months or no life wvw and get 1 hero points each wvw rank.
I dislike to do pve, so my only option is to do wvw but how long will this take for 2000 hero points. I have tons of tomes of knowledge but apparently these don’t give hero points.
Anyone else getting frustrated by this? Or am I missing something because otherwise I am very very disappointed.
Greetings,
Ares
It’s really not that bad, pop your xp boosters in WvW. In just this last weekend I got about 500 proofs of heroics… granted I played a LOT this weekend, but still.
Anyways, I was expecting this to take a long time, but right now I have 2 scrappers maxed, chrono, reaper, tempest, druid, dragonhunter, berserker, and half way on a rev. Just missing the rev and thief. This is all over the course of about 1.5 weeks.
For 3 of the characters I got most of the points doing HP trains that seem to pop up about an hour after reset regularly. The rest I just hit the ones I knew I could solo, then dropped the proofs of heroics to fill in.
I was expecting months to get to where I am, but in just over a week I have all my characters pretty well set.
Now… Masteries… arg

You not liking to play the core mode of the game is not really due to anything the game does, is it? You playing only the additional game modes is a choice, and choices have consequences. You have several choices, even one that aligns with your preferences, but that one just takes longer. Be glad they decreased the hero points needed to 250, because it used to be 400.

Trains are focused groups doing specific content. With Hero Challenges, just look for Hero Point (or Challenge) groups in the LFG or in zone chat. Blobs are generally large groups of players following a Commander or Mentor Tag, usually doing a large group event.

But let’s be fair, this is a MMO. You have to put some grind into it or it wouldn’t be a MMO. If you only want to pvp, why not go play a game where you hop in with everything already given and you just do pvp, you wouldn’t need to grind. For example Counter Strike or whatever.
I don’t like people arguing about MMO being MMO.

Regardless, it doesn’t matter. You have more than enough time given the current pace in the game. Don’t rush it. The real fun in Guild Wars 2 is the leveling journey.
