People seem to be confusing the ideas of “won’t pay this much” and “can’t afford this much”.
I could easily buy the expansion even if it was $200, but I won’t. I will only pay what I think it is worth. The amount of revealed content is not worth $40-$50, so I will not pay that. It has nothing to do with what I can afford. If they release $15-$20 in content then I will pay $15-$20 no more.
Would you pay $200 for this expansion? if not why? that is only ~$1 per day since the announcement, surely you can afford $1 per day right? if not then maybe you should look at your priorities.

True, the meaning of an expansion is to create content big enough to make it worth purchasing. The price depends on how much content is in the expansion. This includes maps, races/classes and hundreds of hours of activities and quests, minus the rng gear grind. I guess Anet’s goal is to make it as big as they can before slapping a price on it. If they charge $40 and it’s $20 worth of content, it’s #occupySab all over again but a lot worse.

I’m guessing $29.99 USD.
You do realize that they are not going to release the game as soon as they announce the price and that it WILL be available for purchase beyond the release date……right?
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I don’t understand why we haven’t seen any news on this, hell EA has already announced the pre-order price and release dates for SW Battlefront 3 along with their pre-order goodies.

And EA will also go ahead and release the game at that date, no matter the state of it.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
I’m guessing $29.99 USD.
Some signs suggest that ArenaNet is somewhat desperate for money, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to charge twice that amount. The amazing thing is that some people would be gullible enough to actually buy the expansion at the 60.00 price point; which is pretty much what new, AAA, full content games are selling at.

At the current rate of information we are getting and the state of the Traits they have shown so far, thy would probably announce the price some time around GW2 3rd year anniversary (if the rumor is to be believed).
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
My official guess: $40.
Standard for AAA PC titles is $60 for the main game and $40 for “true” expansions.
Mains — Mathias of the Wood [Ranger]; Collaborator Bluatt [Engineer]
Alts — Necromancer, Warrior, Elementalist
Tell you what. Give me $200 USD and I’ll get the fanciest version available for you the instant it’s ready for purchase. You’re so eager to throw money at things, you may as well throw it at me.
Yes, ANet said “Buy Once Play Forever”
And they didn’t lie.
Never anywhere, anytime will your access to today’s current content be revoked if you do not purchase HoT or any other possible xpacs.
That argument is is so invalid it’s silly and it infuriates me every time I’ve seen it referenced. Just because you choose not to or are unable to buy HoT or any other xpac-
!!You Will Always Have Access To The Core Game!!
(barring anything in violation of the ToS and being banned, which is the users own fault).
Other than that-
All we know is they have not released a cost value yet, and threads like this only serve to inflame and irritate the population of the game.
If you do not like the asking of the xpac, and feel your money will be better spent elsewhere, then spend it how you see fit. If you are unable to purchase the xpac at pre-sale or launch- the only deadline you’ll have is if the game dies completely and they shutdown the servers for good. Buy It Later.
(And- 2 yrs and 9 mos of WoW sub would be $430-$446, not $510. Since everyone is in the mood for nitpicking cost so harshly, I thought I would offer the correct amount.)
Stuff! Stuffy stuff stuff stuff!!
It will price the same as a new game. Anet maybe a nice guy but they don’t operate base on Fan-letter papers. Even if they want to sell the game at margin price, NCsoft isn’t going to be happy about it. Unless Anet said “Looks NCsoft, we are the nice guy and we love our fans so much that we don’t want any extra money to make our company grow bigger. So we will sell the game cheap and you have all the profit.”

Considering how HoT isn’t a “new game”, rather an overhyped way of releasing Living World season 3 masquerading as DLC, pricing it as a new game can lead to less people buying it. Which would, ironically enough, require ArenaNet to operate based on fan-letter papers if they don’t want to close.
$39,99 – $59,99 seems like a likely price range for standard edition.
This is wildly expensive for an expansion pack that -in contrast to the base game- provides a fraction of the content.
Also considering that ANet had the gem store from the get go this allows them to drop xpac price much more than a full game.
Don’t buy it then… simple resolution. Do a /age in game then divide it by the initial cost to buy the game… I’ll go first 4k hours / 50$ is like 1/80th of a cent per hour. Tell me, what other form of entertainment gives you a rate like that?
Any free to play game.
Eg.: The first minute of Farmville is worth more by that calculation.
