Glider
thanks for the screenshots
i didn’t like the actual graphics of the glider. i hope they will make it like this
@tfcgeneralkmk.9508 you’re welcome
@alcopaul.2156 Da Vinci might play GW2 if that’s how a glider would look like.

the screenshot provided looks fairly similar just with added layers to make it a bit more “cool” looking
i wish the wingspan should be a lil longer and has tails.
This is probably what I am most excited about in the expansion and its good to see most comments have been very positive about it so far.
Soaring through the air looked so majestic, and I enjoyed the glider mechanics a lot overall. I only wish I could have gotten enough Mastery Points to continue upgrading it and see how much better it got at deployment. Deploying it was a wee bit annoying at times, with how you must fall a certain distance first at these early levels of Mastery.
Seafarer’s Rest
I predict that shortly after HoT releases we will see a new tab appear much like the mail carrier tab and the gem store will have new glider skins for sale. Possibly with skins like flapping feathered wings, dragon wings, a parachute, or Da Vinci style flyers. The list could go on and on.

It would be even better if we could obtain these skins in-game as rewards from something, or even have class-unique skins, rather than just putting skins in the gemstore.
But knowing Anet, there’s no chance in hell we’ll be getting skins outside of the gemstore.
during the stress test the gliding was really fun, i only hoped for more updrafts to take advantage from. As for the new profession “Revenant” love it. Only found the map a little on the small side during the stress test.
Da Vinci was not born in Tyria.
I’d definitely pay for being able to use my spinal blades to glide… Ö.Ö
But since this would require the whole animation to change, I won’t hold my breath for it xD

Not many people do it seems… or maybe they’re just silent on the topic.

Actually… no.
I tested the feathered wings when gliding, and I noticed a few things.
When you glide, your backpack disappears. The glider appears, and it’s about the same size as if the feathered wings were spread, more or less. Finally, the glider wings don’t really move.
If they want to make things like the wings or spinal backpacks (I’d assume only the full versions) turn into gliders, they don’t need to animate them. Rather, when the glider appears it uses a model based on the backpack you’re using. If the backpack skin you’re wearing isn’t one of the special ones, it just uses the generic model. Otherwise, though, there’s no need to add flapping or anything.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Yeah, that’s true. I wasn’t very clear what I meant with changing animations… As far as I remember, the Asura character animation while gliding makes them spread their arms a lot, which – at least in my opinion – wouldn’t fit with the spinal blades as glider and probably would even result in some clipping with the blades…
I’ll see if I can find a screenshot from the trailer (or make one myself) and edit it in.
EDIT: Not the most beautiful screen, but here’s what I mean. Seeing it in this screen it probably won’t clip, but still look kinda… well… strange… xD
I don’t need any special animation of the backpack (since you mentioned flapping and such), but I wouldn’t say no if they added a similar backpack/jetpack animation to the one of Scarlet’s Assault Knights in flight…

However, if they pulled it off somehow to replace the default glider skin with Spinal Blades and other available wing backpacks, I’d definitely be the first to throw money at my screen

From what I’ve seen of the gliding mechanic so far: I don’t like it. It feels like a last minute afterthought. Though it might simply be a case of engine limitations.
Though, it’ll still be where I spend my first mastery points.

no its not a last minute after thought. we’ve seen flying hacks and glider is just based on that mechanic. a.net doesn’t want to implement flying yet.

However the maps have been designed with verticality in mind, so although the current implementation could likely have been a relatively recent one the idea of gliding must have been in affect around the time they started creating the maps.
