Why does the glider open server side and not client side like jumping?

Remember a long time ago when you changed jumping to be server side, and there was such a huge backlash that you changed it back within a few hours? Why would you make another movement thing server side? Is there an actual reason?

They’re incapable of limiting the glider to expansion areas if gliding was client-side. When you try to glide, request is sent to the server and the server will decide if you’re allowed or not.

Let’s call it what it is, it’s an anti-cheat mechanism, there’s no reason the client couldn’t do it if Anet wanted it to.

They could still have a ‘glider-allowed’ flag for the map on the client side, and at the same time send an asynchronous confirmation request to the server. Anyone who creates a hack to ignore the glider-allowed flag would soon crash as soon as the server response came back.

yeah this makes sense, I’m sure they could find a way to make it work.

Yeah but people love their conspiracy theories.
Besides if the client decided how and where the player can move…

But is it worth it? I mean from a technical and practical perspective

The glider seems to have a delay in deploying. Also, sometimes, it doesn’t deploy at all. Just attempted to glide to an area, and the glider didn’t activate.

Hit the ground from a spectacular height, didn’t die, and then started taking DoT damage before I ported back to my home instance.

Something is definitely wrong right now.

Edit: Seems there is a lag issue on all the maps, right now.

Gone to Reddit.

Sometimes it makes traversing the new maps impossible, it stinks.
