For those who have read my other post here, you will know last BWE and this one I spent a long, long time grinding to get this through the stealth gliding tier and started working on the second to last one until I saw how much exp it would take to get that (don’t nerf that please).

First: I didn’t participate in any Betas for HoT until the pre-purchase ones.

Tier 1: The first time I got this tier and opened up that glider I felt as everything in the game had opened up to me. I had to force myself not to continue up to the next tier to get the mushroom jumping first. I loved the feeling of gliding and it became what I spent most of the first BWE doing.

Tier 2: Updraft! The second I found an updraft I would go to it during the day and spend the enter day cycle (because events were bugged) just gliding and seeing how long I could stay in the air for. I spent the entire day cycle in the air and nothing will ever break how much fun that was to do or how much I loved getting to that tier (but maybe getting the fifth one )

Tier 3: Lean to speed up and slow down. So addictive and hard not to keep using for the speed boost it gives or the control of not hitting a branch without having to release the glider. During this current weekend I found I am over taking a lot of people and going a lot further than them just just because I have this tier unlocked.

Tier 4: Stealth gliding. I go purple XD the glider stays there, seen though which isn’t very stealthy feeling, but I loved how it was the purple look from the mesmers instead of what is seen with the thieves. I felt very happy getting this far and while I’ve only used it once to test and once to actually stealth over part of an event to not get hit, it was fun to see it the first. I like how it doesn’t last very long and wish there were more mobs who would attack me while I was in the air so I could test it more Perhaps they are in other parts of the jungle.

Tier 5: Advanced Gliding – 4,191,000 exp to get this… yeah not happening over this weekend so I am more than happy to leave off experiencing this when HoT launches. It is the one I am most excited to play and it will feel soooo good to get their when the game releases.

Gliding is the best mastery in this game and I love it a lot more than flying mounts or just cool looking mounts. I feel like this could easily take the place of the mounts in WoW and speeders in TOR if they come out with really epic skins which aren’t just Gem store items to get. Say skins for fractils, for PvP, for WvW, for raiding (that drop in different levels of a raid and are just as rare as pre-cursors. Sort of like how certain speeders were such rare drops in nightmare runs of ToR’s raids you knew (if the raid was new) that player was good to have gotten that speeder). That is my hope with gliding. Right now, I just love finding a spot where I can take off and enjoy the feeling of soring through air on my completely blind Revenant XD

I really like the gliding so far…. but there are a few things that “bug” me.

I’ve noticed that sometimes the glider just deploys itself instead of me jumping while I am traveling downhill.

It seems if the ledge you are attempting to jump off us slants downward, rather than jumping, there is a chance will immediately deploy your glider. This drastically reduces your starting glide height.

I’m assuming this relates to the issue that was present ages ago…. when players used to mash jump to scale up walls and stuff… and anet implemented a terrible “nerf” that basically stopped players from jumping if they were traveling downward on the z axis.

Which made some jumping puzzles and such impossible…. until anet tweaked the code.

Glider mechanics are using similar coding, and it needs to be fine tuned even more.

If your z axis value is decreasing fast enough that the game considers you to be falling, your glider deploys instead of your character jumping… meaning you can’t do any running jumps in verdant brink which start on a heavy downslope.

I also really hate that holding the jump button for a moment after jumping automatically deploys the glider. I strongly feel like we should need to release the button and press again while we are midair to deploy the glider. I don’t want to have to tap the jump key to to a regular jump because that goes against every platformer I’ve ever played.
