Graphics performance drop down
Hm, sure the 980Ti is faster than the 970, but I’m not sure it’ll buy you that much in GW2. What kind of CPU do you have? The large meta events are probably more CPU dependent and the 970 is already a fast card. And I doubt it is hitting the 3.5GB VRAM mark.
My understanding is that Gw2 is more CPU bottlenecked than GPU bottlenecked. Not too long ago, one of my SLI cards gave up the ghost. Since it was no longer under it’s 3 year warranty, I tried running GW2 with a single graphics card. I did notice a drop in fps in certain locals, but not near as much as I thought I would. I’ve been running the game fine, and don’t plan on replacing my GPU until it dies or I find a new game that really needs a better one.
I’d hold off upgrading from a 970 to a 970ti.
Maybe try overclocking?
Don’t bother upgrading your GPU, even a cpu upgrade isn’t going to help. Overclocking can get you between 10-15 fps on the low end but not much else (both cpu and ram); this is coming from a stock 6600k to 4.7ghz.
The majority is games fault, and no one can really do anything about that at this point. Better wait for GW3 for a better engine.
I have devils canyon over clocked to 4.6Gz and as I said previously MSI GTX 970 with 200Mhz more on the GPU clock and 160 Mhz on memory. I read that the game performance depends on CPU but as my CPU usage while gaming is only 35% thought that GPU might play enormous role. So basically if adding more powerful graphics card will not help the game performance is not achievable after some certain level? I find it hard to believe it but everyone says so.
What did you use to measure CPU load? If it’s the Windows task manager, not all cores will be at 100% as many games do not use more than 2 or 4 cores atm. Depending on the number of cores on your CPU you’ll end up with ~50% usage or less with quad-core i7 with hyper threading, but it can’t get any faster.
If the effects and render sampling are cranked to the max you might gain a few fps with the 980Ti. Question is, is it worth it.
What FPS are we talking about? Since you’re playing on higher resolution than the majority.
Yeah it’s the windows tool.
In LA and any other the original game areas it is OK with exception of big group event where FPS drops down drastically. With regards to resolution I have 27 inch screen of 1440p and I have decreased it to 2560×1080 because I like this aspect ratio – playing with two black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen. And when I enter the expansion map I can feel FPS droping down. Not sure how many is there but it is not 60fps at all. Game settings are cranked to max.
And yeah GTX980ti is a lot of money that’s why I wanted to get some feedback
The options screen show the fps. You can try http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html I believe the later versions show load percentage of (most) graphics cards, too. It does on my 660Ti. Not sure how accurate it can be calculated, though. If the graphics processor is waiting for more input it might still be wasting clock cycles and counting as 100% load. But you can give it a try.
You can try with a lower resolution and/or lower settings. If it doesn’t get any faster, a faster card probably won’t do anything.
All you can do is most likely make an educated guess. IMO a 980Ti is wasted money if you don’t play other current high end games. GW2 was release at the same year as the GF 600 series.
Geforce 1000 series is supposed to be relased 2016. Not sure if Q1 or end of year. They could be again much faster with the new stacked memory. I only mention this in case you get annoyed easily if your 500€ gfx card is outdated after 3 months.
I just decreased the graphics setting and it’s a bit faster but not worth spending 500 quid so I think I will hold on for the time being with purchasing a new card.
I built my computer a year ago so next year I will definitely upgrade it. Thanks for the info it helped me to make my mind.
