Hello,

My guild and I, a relatively small (four players) and casual bunch, who love to roleplay have recently just hit the wall with HoT’s Guild Halls. We all happily pre-ordered HoT’s after hearing about them, the large open spaces, being able to place furniture, decorations, trophies and the like. It just sounded SO great on paper.

But then came the reality. After trying to acquire the actual guild hall (Lost Precipice), and nearly completing it, but failing at the end, we finally had the hall, and we were happy to have it, we’d succeeded! Then, we saw the list of items just to get the tavern. We laughed, this must be something of a ‘hurdle’ to get to the good stuff, we all thought. So we pushed on… still, no scribe, no furniture.

After two months? We’ve finally have our workshop… only to discover, more prerequisites to get decorations. It’s cost us so much time, so much gold, so much pain.

I understand, it’s suppose to be a guild effort, but couldn’t they give us a chair? A table? A vase? Could they not scale some of this for smaller groups?

Our scribe can now make books tonight, but you know what? Those aren’t even decorations, but rather prerequisites FOR decorations, that we can’t get to till we pay more gold, more mats, for another building. You can’t even RP in the buildings, the scribes building has a HUGE boulder in it… why?

It just seems so sad. I sit and look at my wyvern trophy decor, the one decor I got to place because I bought the Deluxe Edition, with a few deluxe vine walls (I don’t know if there is a basic vine wall?) and I have to wonder: Was my guild duped into this marketing? Most likely. My fellow guild mates are looking around this vast canyon complex, and we’re just disheartened.

I hope some one from ArenaNet reads this, because we do love your game, my guild gave up World of Warcraft for it. Though, I feel as though, you’ve lost something with HoT’s. It maybe challenging, hardcore, and E-Sports-centric now, but… is it fun? My guild no longer thinks so…

Locking deco merchant 1/2/3 behind hard walls was a poor idea when you consider the mats required for the unlocks are needed for every deco you make.

And ya they could have mapped out how guild halls unfold, during the lvling process, better.

In theory it was a way to give guilds some more perks and things to enjoy. In actuality it is a ruinous pile of grinding and walling off benefits guilds previously had access to behind these things, meaning that now smaller guilds simply have almost no chance of getting anything worthwhile.

The whole system is pretty bad. But unfortunately there’s no real way to cater to smaller guilds because that would be easily taken advantage of by all guilds.

Other than that, even for larger guilds, this is a a pretty big wall of grind to jump over for chairs you can’t sit on.

I’ve played some of those other games. The gold spam in some games is ridiculous. Far worse than this one. I personally don’t consent to give free players more freedom at the expense of paying players.

I think you’ve drifted a little off topic there, Vayne. This is about guild halls, not F2P.

And yes, the GH decoration system is horrible. Can you imagine if the NPCs had to follow it? The inn in DR’s Salma district would have cost more to decorate than it does to build Eternity.

I love how there’s no bank and upgrades make the scribing station even further away. Can I contribute from my bank? No, what? Are we back to 2012 where you had to have crafting materials with you?

It’s like whoever designed the place hates players.

If you talk to the treasurer first you can keep that window open and go use the scribing station bank tab. It’s not ideal but makes it less annoying.

Hello,

My guild and I, a relatively small (four players) and casual bunch,

Guild Halls were designed as long-term projects for medium guilds. Accordingly, they are super-long-term projects for tiny guilds (10 members or less) and longer still for “casual bunches”.

Is that good for the game? I’m ambivalent. On the one hand, 99% of the game was already suitable for tiny guilds, so it’s great that there’s something designed for larger ones. On the other, ANet gated a lot of utility (e.g. banks) and pipsqueak stuff (e.g. balloons or minor decorations) behind costly account-based scribing and costly upgrades.

However, I think if we want ANet to change the current system, we have to address the concept that Guild Halls are primarily designed for larger guilds. So what I’d like to see is:

  • Make scribing guild-bound instead of account bound.
  • Make the first “few” levels simple and cheap for guilds of any size.
  • Include a few cheapo decorations and decent utilities in those first few levels, e.g. XP, WXP, and PvP buffs, shrubs, chairs, small statues.
  • Make it somewhat more expensive for the next 5-10 levels.
  • Make it super expensive for the next 5-10 levels.

This way, everyone has access to something and at the same time, even L20 halls would require coordinated efforts by bigger groups, i.e. keeps to the spirit of ANet’s goal without locking out loyal & dedicated small groups.

What the hell do gold sellers have to do with guild halls?

Assuming in a big guild of 500 people, about 50 of them are major contributors to build the hall. If you have 5 people in your guild and they are all major contributors, it would take about 10 times the gold and time to build the hall. The hall cost is constant among all guilds, which is fair. Small guild should not have “discounted” cost over large guild. Recruit more of you want to lower the shared cost. It’s the way it is.

Many guild have reached max level by now (2 months since the xpac launched). If your guild is 1/10 of the size and if you plan to keep it that way, it would take 20 months, i.e, a year and 8 more months to reach the maximum size. Or about 1/3 that time, give or take 6-7 months to reach the half way mark. This is normal.

Not to worry, soon Party Halls will be released which will be balanced around 4 people.

My take is that if ANet had chosen to create new benefits to exclusively fuel the new guild systems and left the old benefits as is, there would be fewer complaints. Taking things away that players previously “earned” never goes over well. That it also was taking away benefits that existed under the core game purchase, requiring a new purchase and a bunch of progression involving spending gold or taking time is just icing on the cake. No matter how “pure” ANet intentions might have been, it’s going to look like they removed access players had paid for (with core purchase) and then earned via in-game actions and now require a new purchase and more in-game actions to recoup.

Stop the complaints. Guild hall are overrated, boring & always empty. Even if your guild is 500 members it’s heavily not use. Another Guild wars2 Fail!

I’ll agree that scribing and the way we make decorations needs a serious look at. The cost of simple decorations is laughable for a personal craft. If Scribing was guild-bound and had a system separate to donate to craft things it would be better.

On the topic of scaling the cost of the hall itself, the requirements are constant whether you are 5 in guild or 50. Input X to get Y. Realistically, if you look at each upgrade they are all doable if you’re a small guild, the only difference between a small guild and a large guild is time.

Do you mean guild bank then? But there is a guild bank in the Guild Hall, atleast ours … Becouse I use the Scribing station as a bank in our guild hall :P All crafting stations is also a bank, don’t forget that.
