So i was just wandering, see a few authorized retailer and i notice a few from europe got hot price lower than anet.

But it said that the key is for Europe only.

But if i remember correctly gw2 used to be like that too, right? But we can choose the server when we create the account.

So.. Anybody ever tried this with hot?

Can i buy hot from europe retailer to use in my na gw2 account?

The game isn’t region locked, so I see no reason why this wouldn’t work.

The key you buy in EU will work on NA, as the first reply stated it is not region locked, I got my game in the EU and played on NA for 2 1/2 years,

The only thing I will say is, make sure the retailer selling it is approved by Anet, as some sites have been selling fake keys, which has resulted in fake refunds etc being asked for, and your account will end up terminated.

This is odd. Mine says nothing about the key being for EU only.

Yes but did you buy it from Anet or from a 3rd party site.

I bought all 4 copies from the same web shop that I have bought most of my games. I am talking about physical copies here. There is no text anywhere stating anything about region.

I was browsing from the authorized dealer in anet list. A few of them have better price when in europe. And in the game description it said that the key will work in europe only.

I remember seing the statement when i 1st buy my gw2 account. So i just want to make sure 1st.hence this thread.

There was something at launch about Eu players only buying EU accounts and NA only NA. However this was buying from ANet directly and because of tax laws. Buying from an outside retailer isn’t the same. You buy from them and pay those taxes.

However, as I understand it, a key from Europe means you go through their servers and your account will be affected by any lag from that if you are based in the U.S.

Nah thats incorrect you can use a eu key on na servers and you then go through the na servers. My friend have hoped from eu to na and then back to eu servers

I think there is confusion here, what it means is if you select an EU server you play on the EU servers, and vice versa, but you are free to use Gems to move between EU and NA.

I would say the website selling the game is confused, I cannot see Anet restricting an account to a region, this would be completely debilitating for say Military personal whom move country.

Might depend on the tax laws and if there are laws preventing people from buying another regions accounts. I don’t know tax laws, but, for example, it’s possible that the U.S. and the EU have an agreement that citizens can’t cross buy to avoid the taxes for that area. If so, then a legitament vendor won’t sell a EU account to a NA based person, and vice versa. All you can do is contact the vendor and see if there are restrictions based on the tax laws.

Thanx again for all your reply. My bigest concern is because i already have a na gw2 account when i bought the europe key n tried to activate it, it will said that the key is invalid. And said that it is for eu only.

Yes the game will not transfer your account for free, the HoT key is just that, its just a key to update your account to HoT version, the only reason the prices are different in EU/NA is because of taxes, basically NA players get a great deal usually and EU players don’t.
